Netflix now on Irish & UK PSN/XBL

I have to say netflix on an iPad is a godly experience.

Pretty much everyone is throttled on Virgin Media if you actually use your connection.

30Mb is throttled to 25% connection speed between 10AM-3PM and 4PM-9PM if you download 10GB or 5GB respectively during those periods.

I've just signed up to upgrade from 10Mb to 30Mb on Virgin. Even if they throttle me to 25%, 7.5Mb is more then good enough for streaming netflix.

Oh yeah, they got the X-Men cartoon! I feel like watching that again :p

PC and 360 interfaces are pretty decent, I can see myself sticking with this.

Virgin Broadband might throttle, I don't think it's the case with the Virgin Cable, if so I have never noticed it.

I'm on Virgin Cable. They definitely throttle. But you probably won't notice much if they throttle you back to 7.5mb. That's still pretty fast.

They've got all the 90s Marvel cartoons (Spider Man, Hulk, Iron Man, Fantastic Four, X-Men) plus some of the recent animated films, although annoyingly not Ultimate Avengers 1 for some reason. Great stuff, though.

Good to know! Gona test out the PS3 App now.

Maybe we should have a UK Netflix Recommendations Thread in the OT now too. X-Men Cartoon is a awesome find.

Bandwidth requirements:-

If anyone is having video quality problems you can use Control + Shift + Option/Alt + S to select your streaming bitrate.

Not many ISPs offer broadband in the area where I live. For years I was with Demon and had a 50GB cap but with lots of people using the internet in my house we were exceeding that nearly every month, and were then being restricted to speeds of 128k until we dropped back below 50GB. Still, there was nothing better and so it wasn't worth switching. More recently I have moved to Vivaciti as they offer slightly faster speeds and a 100GB cap, plus it's a monthly contract so when are exchange gets upgraded I can quickly move to an unlimited use deal.
BT offer unlimited broadband without a FUP in every area of the UK (except Hull) for £25. Even if there's no fibre or LLU services in your area (very rare these days) there's still no reason to be on a limited service.

If you've got a download cap in the UK its by choice. Plenty of great unlimited packages available.

Oh I know, that's why I was asking. I mean why would someone choose to have a cap unless required due to restrictions (e.g. only ISP in the area)?

Netflix might actually get me to stop waiting for Bluray/DVD boxsets and embrace video streaming. Is the bitrate 3600Kbps or is that number measuring something else?

Vodafone Ireland offer a business line with up to 8mb Dl speed, no cap and local/national/mobile calls for 60 a month, cheaper than any Home option I could find.

I have a fair use policy but never ever get brought up on it, even though I almost definitely exceed it (Sky)

I don't think sky broadband unlimited has any restrictions ....... no caps, no traffic shaping .. nothing!

Excluding line rental (12.50) my service comes in at 15 down and just under 1 up, no restrictions .... all for £7.50.

Loving Netflix, seems like new content is going up all the time as I just noticed a couple of Van Damme films went up ( Kickboxer is awesome).

Streaming quality is immense on PS3 and equally excellent on iPad.

Don't mention traffic management on the Virgin Media forums or you'll get banned. :P

Virgin love to traffic shape ...... the used to leave the top tier service out of that horrible shit, not sure if it is still the same.

They where some much better when they where cabeltel / ntl.

Just watched Spaceballs for the first time in many, many years. aw yeah.

Loving this so far, looks like I'm going to subscribe after the trial

Been doing some experimenting and it seems you can have 2 streams running at once. I had something playing on the Xbox and PC but it wouldn't let me play anything on me phone. Quit the Xbox app and I could start a stream on my phone just fine.

Quite reasonable really, the same as Sky Go but you can have a whole lot more activated devices. I think I'll set this up round my mam's on their Xbox using my account, she gets a lot of use out of Sky Go so she should love this.

They have the Spiderman cartoons, Twin Peaks and pretty much all of Hey Arnold.

That extra pound doesn't look like much now, does it?

Fantastic, Netflix launches in the UK at a stage in my life when I can only afford 3g internet over tethering (fuck your line rental, Karoo). I only ever get 1+ mbps after 2am.

Oh, hey. Maybe I should give the trial a go after all. 3's service can be faster than KC's but it's so unreliable.

Is anyone else having problems actually seeing the Netflix app on PS3?
I'm in the UK and it still doesn't show up for me. I've tried installing Playstation Home and setting the clock via internet as recommended in this thread but the app still doesn't appear for me.

Just gotta say signed up for a free month, and its awesome I might keep Lovefilm around for hard disk packages but use this as my streaming option.

Actually on PC is there anyway to add titles to a que of any description?

You could try signing into another account on the PS3, then back into your main one. If you don't have any others just create a local one (it doesn't need to be another PSN connected account). This and restarting the console worked for a friend who had the same problem.

Has anyone had problems signing into the Netflix site after signing up on the PS3? I'm certain I'm entering the details correct but I can't sign in on the PC, and if I try to request a password reset no e-mail is sent. I never even received a welcome e-mail after signing up, yet I'm able to use it from the PS3 just fine.

Watched The Usual Suspects last night on my 360, worked flawlessly, said it was HD quality too (although it clearly wasn't quite that good).

Just wish the library was bigger right now. Might watch something later tonight depending on what's available. Really wanted to watch that Bridesmaids as I heard it was hilarious at the cinema.

Here's something I found on the DS forums: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/kmdelealkajgbcbeglojcnooolhbdlgo

It's a chrome extension that enables you to add items to the instant queue in countries that don't have this. I don't have Chrome so haven't been able to test it and so don't know if the queue will show up on your consoles as a result. I wonder if there is a similar plugin for Firefox.
Just tried this, but it doesn't seem to work at the moment. When I click add to queue I just get "Netflix Site Error - we were unable to process your request."

Thanks for this but it doesn't seem to be working. Any time I try to add anything to the queue it just comes up with an error that they were unable to process the request.

Thanks for trying though. Shame as it wouldn't have been nice to have an instant queue. Not sure why it isn't available over here? Seems a strange omission.

I'm wondering if it they are waiting on content, seems strange to only have one POTC film. And only the first 4 seasons of 24 when clearly says seasons 1-8.

Signed up and tried on iPad and ps3 .. HD blows away love film in a second...
First couple of seconds streaming it was obviously checking my bandwidth, but then moved up to HD pretty quickly and then stayed that way

Not sure I'll keep love film.. Will see

I signed up for this but I can't seem to find it on my PS3. I've checked under TV and What's New and there's no sign. Anyone else in the UK having this problem?

I was pretty excited about this, but after taking out the trial, when I try and play anything on my 360 I get an error message, something about an output protection error.

It works ok with scart, but I want to watch in HD, damnit!

Has anyone else come across this?

My TV is a Sony KDL-40L4000, and I'm using an HDMI cable, if that makes any difference.
