The show is not available for me on Netflix (NL). I've viewed the trailer, but I can't really tell what it is about (I assume it is to explain to whites how they are being casually racist against blacks?). Is it a documentary?
There is a movie (which is this show is based on) by the same name, and you should watch it. Its not a documentary, but a regular Drama-Comedy movie, where, yes its about race, but its a bit more than that too.
The film is not the best, but worth it just because of the acting and great script.
Ayyoooo one of you linked this YouTube video called White Like Me Tim Wise that I'm currently watching and it's great. Thank you very much.
Thank you![]()
hahhahahahahah I laughed way to hard at thisI would have responded "imagine if you were born with a brain."
So many "snowflakes" I think it's a blizzard.
I disliked the video. For the record I will reserve judgement for watching the series, but your comment implied anyone this isn't clicking with seems incapable of "handling her message" or some bullshit. It's like Ghostbusters all over again.
A setup where white students are pompous, racially ignorant morons who need a female black protagonist to drop some knowledge doesn't make for an interesting premise for me. It's just very two dimensional and lazy.
That said, if the protagonist and the students actually have depth outside of stereotypes than I am down with reassessing my opinion.

Still sounds like you're taking offense at a made-up view of what it will be that couldn't really be formed from that trailer with some preconceptions.
Have you seen the movie?

It has value because it's a reflection of reality /and/ sometimes we need to be hit with a stick to wake us the fuck up.
Again, based off the trailer - it seems to be a reflection of college caricatures from Hollywood movies vs a reflection of reality. Like come on...

The film may be styalised in a certain way, but these actors represent something very real.
Look - all I'm saying is the show based of the trailer doesn't offend me in the least nor does it bring crashing down my false preconceived notions of race relations at a university. It just seems - again as a show - lazy and condescending from as a premise. That doesn't mean I am in denial of racism.
It means you're a little tone deaf here, imo.
The film is obviously using a stylised approach to represent a very real problem. White America's (and indeed the world's) inherent racism brought on by the denial to address their privilege is real.
You really can't see what's being presented in the image above when taken in the context of the entire trailer?
I wont link the article, but the infamous troll Milo (whose famous for saying "FUCK YOUR FEELINGS") wrote a whole opinion piece ranting about Dear White People. He claims it part of a larger pattern of leftist identity politics that drove people of "good conscience" to abandon the left & put Trump in the White House.
When Mr. "Fuck Your Feelings" writes a lengthy op-ed whining about a 30 second trailer, you know youve done something right.
Where are all the liberals in the comment section? Why is is always those right nutters present there? Always echo chambers
Liveleaks comment section taught me even the present of a black guy or woman can trigger people. Ever watch the videos in russia where people beat up gay people and then throw piss at them? Thousands upon thousand vile comments cheering it on
Where are the liberals?
I don't think I'm tone deaf and I think my opinions are valid based off the trailer. I know racism is real. I know its denial is dangerous.
Didn't like the trailer. Sue me.

I won't sue you, but I will point out where I think the difficulties are.
You're being a bit too defensive here, especially if you're white like I am. All us white people are responsible for this, and the things you and I are discussing are part of the inherent problem.
I honestly can't see how anyone would have the reaction you just did without being tone deaf to the situation. I've been tone deaf to many before, and I'm more than ready to admit that and ask how I could potentially do better.
Don't double down on it.
Likewise.
All us white people are inherently responsible for racism. Didn't say or imply otherwise. I know that racism exists on campuses. I know blackface at Holloween happens and it is wrong. I also know this is satire.
Don't like the trailer for reasons stated. Will watch show and see how I like it. Not much else to say.
There's no "likewise" here dude. I think your reaction shows a slight deafness here and I believe that's a good discussion to have even if I'm wrong. Your defensiveness is a problem and it should be addressed. We - white people - don't have the right to be so sensitive here, imo.
I'm literally agreeing with you on everything but this trailer. I can't help you if you read that as overly defensive.
they may have drew attention, but it's not working in helping the cause, probably just making people even angrierIts such a ridiculous thing to be upset over this name. How sensitive and fragile are people? I also disagree, they knew that they were doing with the name, not only to prove a point but to draw attention.

Funny how this same thing was said during kaepernicks proteststhey may have drew attention, but it's not working in helping the cause, probably just making people even angrier

Im all for triggering the White genocide crowd, this is a crowd that pretends to be tough, thick skinned people, who arent rattled by words they dont like. I mean, it's all about "fuck your feelings" with them, right? So fuck theirs.they may have drew attention, but it's not working in helping the cause, probably just making people even angrier
One of the suggested videos is Phillip DeFranco calling it racist propaganda.

Ha ha ha.... mister "middle ground" strikes again...
Please tell me he actually says those words explicitly

People that are getting mad at this don't give a shit about "the cause."
