Netflix's Dear White People official trailer

Guys, this show is awesome.

Watch it when it's released!

I'll elaborate a bit:

It treats racism from multiple perspectives.

You have people who see themselves as more victims than they really are.
You have people who are actual victims and tryreally hard to make it in a world that's against them.
You have people who aren't really affected by racism, but see it unfold around them and want to do something.
You have people who could be victims, but are in complete denial.

Aside from that, it's also quite funny at times =p

So is it just the movie stretched out over multiple episodes?.. or is there more to it?

Pretty much, but obviously they can go more in depth and explore other issues that couldn't fit in a film

Lionsgate Television, who co-released the film 3 years ago, is backing the Netflix series which follows a similar narrative as the film, based on Simien’s own experiences at a predominately white university. With tongue planted firmly in cheek, the film explores racial identity in so-called ‘post-racial’ America, while weaving a universal story of forging one’s unique path in the world.

Before the usual suspects come in, NO this show isn't racist against white people, YES it is based on a great concept that delves into issues of race relations at a fairly decently advanced level, and yes you should fucking watch it before you comment.

Alright, this trailer looks good. Will be interesting to see how the show deals with this content as it has much more time to work with.

I enjoyed the film, so I'll probably check this out. I was surprised at how even-handed the film was in its depiction.

If they watched the trailer they'd get that part.

Looks good. Lmao, I love the hypocrisy of conservatives calling out outrage culture and getting frothing at the mouth angry at a show because of the title.

Yea, I'm wondering the same. A lot of what they show happened in the movie.

And I still say the name is a bit of a misstep. Think it'll unfortunately turn off a lot of people assuming it's just some exercise in checking "white privilege" when in reality it's more nuanced than that.

Can't wait for the instant down votes and especially the comments.

Mmm MMM DEEELICIOUS

Edit: So this is just a straight up adaptation of the movie rather than an expansion?

Will watch. The credit roll of the movie is still the ultimate shutdown for anyone trying to claim that racism is over.

Liked the film, but this trailer didn't hit in the same way for me?

I'll probably watch anyways eventually. I have a backlog of shit to watch as it is. :/

I don't want to derail the thread, but I don't think it's possible to be "racist against white people" because "white" isn't a race, it's a social caste. White people's individualism has never been or never will be in jeopardy.

Trailer left me feeling a little underwhelmed, but I thought the same about the movie trailer and ended up having a really good time watching it.

Yeah, that title results in a lot of knee-jerk reactions, but the movie fair to both sides.

Anybody else worried this is going to be too close to the movie? It's a series so I'm sure it'll be longer, but I recall most of the scenes in that trailer from the movie.

Had me in stitches.

As someone unfamiliar with the source material, this looks like something I'd enjoy.

I'm just stating for the record since these are actual things that were being discussed by people last time a Dear White People trailer thread came :P

Didn't see the trailer but gonna watch just because I want to support all the butthurt the title has/will cause across the nation

The same people that are mad would still be mad if the show was called Brand x.
