The same people that are mad would still be mad if the show was called Brand x.

yup

the lesson we should learn from this past shit year is stop pandering to racist fucks. They are no more dumb than you or I and can understand basic concepts. They CHOOSE to be ignorant shitheads. It is a life choice, unlike being black.

Didn't see the trailer but gonna watch just because I want to support all the butthurt the title has/will cause across the nation

Is the title essentially clickbait? The show seems like it's a comedy show with a progressive message about race relations, which isn't what I expected.

And they will watch it anyway, lol.

Loved the original film, therefore I'll be watching this the moment Netflix releases the show. After living in South Africa for two years, and seeing my white colleagues treating my black ones in similar ways, I'll be quite excited to see what parallels I'll find in this series!

Looks fun, will definitely watch.

The Germany and so many likes jokes were perfect, really hope there's lots more of those to break up the more serious aspects of the show.

There's a lot to like there but man I have such a hard time giving a shit about ivy league whatever. I'm sure the setting serves the premise well, it's just so far from my interest.

looks really good actually

the autocomplete got a laugh out of me.

also - wow that lead actress is kind of stunning huh

Guys, this show is awesome.

Watch it when it's released!

I'll elaborate a bit:

It treats racism from multiple perspectives.

You have people who see themselves as more victims than they really are.
You have people who are actual victims and tryreally hard to make it in a world that's against them.
You have people who aren't really affected by racism, but see it unfold around them and want to do something.
You have people who could be victims, but are in complete denial.

Aside from that, it's also quite funny at times =p

Thanks, might give it a try some less busy time.

I thought the movie pulled it's punches a bit too much. But I hope in this format it gets time to breath and not rush through things.

i watched the movie a couple years ago. It was okay and has its funny moments. idk about a show... maybe ill watch.

Well I'm noticing they're now trying to paint the show as "anti-SJW" and pretending to think that's what the show is all about.

"Oh, it's making fun of triggered/SJW's." Umm, no. It's a lot more deeper than that.

They see the phrase "trigger warning" and think the show makes fun of SJWs, when the "trigger warning" is actually for them. lol. I guess they think only SJWs can be triggered; the reaction to the last trailer proves otherwise.

Lol countdown to "What if we made a 'Dear Black People' you racists!" I'm gonna check this out when it hits Netflix. Very interested.

I basically tell these assholes if they want a show like that so badly they should shut the fuck up on the internet and actually make that show. Put up or shut the fuck up already.

Where'd you watch it?

Hopefully it's better than recent Netflix originals, I dunno if it's a quantity thing but it seems like the quality has been sliding.

Yeah, that title results in a lot of knee-jerk reactions, but the movie fair to both sides.

Anybody else worried this is going to be too close to the movie? It's a series so I'm sure it'll be longer, but I recall most of the scenes in that trailer from the movie.

Well, a TV series is probably always going to be better at nuance and a deeper dive than a movie, so even if it follows the same path as the movie absent Netflix-style "nothing happens" shenanigans seems like it's got a much better opportunity. Haven't seen the movie but if people in this thread are saying it's good I'd say it's promising for the series.

It doesn't seem like something I'd watch, but it's something I fully support, if only because of how much it triggers internet trolls.

Wasn't this originally an indie film? I remember seeing a trailer for it a while back and it looked interesting.

Is there anywhere to easily watch that?

Crazy thing is, the main political point of the original Dear White People film (which is great) is basically: "Don't do blackface"

you'd think that wouldn't be a controversial statement nowadays, but here we are.

The comments about this trailer being better than the first one because "it's making fun of SJWs guys, so it's totally ok now!". Give me a fucking break.

Repost of this wonderful gif from the last thread that helps to sum up the outrage.

I worked on the translation.

From the last few originals that passed through me, this one is admist the best.
But I agree, some shows lately have been downright awful. (Looking at your, Paranoia. Watched the damn thing twice while working. Never understood what was going on.)

Trailer is pretty funny, certainly going to check it out. I have been a bit disappointed with some of the more recent Netflix output so hope it's good.
