Never Do Restore File System on your PS3

So I was having problems installing Demon's Souls on my PS3. Checked online and was recommended to rebuild the PS3 database then if it doesn't work, do the restore file system. Both step do not erase nor delete anything on the PS3 HDD. I did the restore file system. Now my PS3 is telling me an error occurred during the restore operation and that the HDD must be formatted. I chose No and it got stuck.

1TB of data will soon be gone if I don't get to a fix. Good thing I got PS+ so my save files are safe. Can't say the same for my brother-in-law. I am considering taking this to work so I can re-download everything.

Anything else I can do to stop this from formatting the HDD?

Sounds like something was corrupted.

You're likely going to need to format the drive. Can you boot into safe mode by any chance?

"Never"?

Come on. You got unlucky and have a corrupt drive, but it's a very useful utility that tons of people use regularly.
