New 3DS European Launch Faceplates

Crossposting from the other thread:

Since NA isn't getting the regular sized N3DS, I thought this might be a good place to give a preview for the template I'm working on.

It's basically a 3d model template for the upper cover plate made in Autodesk's free 123D Design. Point is to load it up, edit it with a personal design and get it 3D printed.

I'm feeling too lazy to make a new thread and keep that updated, so if anyone feels like it, go for it.

Would this actually work? Can the top plate be removed? I have a MakerBot at work and would happily try this out if so once I get my new n3DS XL.

Was hoping that now that the N3DS was been released that i would be able to get faceplates locally in town instead of importing, but at those prices i'll keep getting them from Amazon Japan.

Would be tempting to aim for a full set but there are quite a few that do nothing for me, that kirby one though is definately getting added. My facepate box is getting full now, need to find more storage soon.

Doesn't the Boo one glow in the dark?

GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER NOA.

Can someone link a full list of the already released japanese faceplates if such a thing exists? As with the themes, I am trying to constrain myself as much as I can, so I need to know what I am holding out for. (Definitely those great pastel coloured ones below the Glowing Boo one on Impotaku's photos! Totally rad!)

Edit: Found it!

Sound warning!!

Looking at 36, 52 and 58!

Edit 2: OMG, that page is awesome - when you click on a design you can switch between the black and white version to compare what it looks like on each.

very nice! how do you order from Amz Japan and ship to UK plz?

I use a shipping forwarding service called Tenso

http://www.tenso.com/en/

Usually wait till i have a few things that i want to get, but paying retail Japanese prices instead of grossly marked up import place prices makes the effort worth it.

Why is there no number 55?

Woah. Never knew the Boo one was glow in the dark. Thought the design looked nifty already, but that's super neat.

I thought I'd post this here for people who are after the Wooden Mario face cover.

Game.co.uk are selling this for ÂŁ10.99 at the moment which is the same price as all the other face covers they have. Because this is is considered one of their "premium" face covers overseas this has been two or three times the standard price.

Game do have a pre-order price guarantee where if they alter the price you only pay the lowest price. I'm guessing that it's an error so there is nothing to stop them cancelling your order when they realise they've made a mistake but if you are wanting one of these it's worth ordering because the worst they can do is cancel your order.

New 3DS Faceplate - Mario (Wood) - ÂŁ10.99

EDIT:
Actually, it's only ÂŁ16.99 on the UK Nintendo Store compared to ÂŁ10.99 for the other face covers.

Also, Game take payment "a few days before the item is released" rather than when you order.

Had this email from Game today...

Hi

I just wanted to write with some good news! Although the price for ACC 3DS FP MARIO WOOD has increased, our Pre-order Price Promise means you'll still pay the original, lower price. Thought you should know.

Thanks again for pre-ordering with us.

Keep gaming,
They're now listing it for ÂŁ19.99 while the budget cover plates are still listed as ÂŁ10.99. Don't think I'd ever buy another cover plate to be honest but I did really want to get away from the plastic felling that you usually get from a handheld and I've used a 3DS with the with wooden cover plate.

Just been looking into these online and am I right in thinking that the wooden one does actually have a layer of wood on the faceplate? Not sure if they're available anywhere else yet but does anybody have one of the wooden ones?

They are made of wood and feel quite nice apparently. The felt-looking one is real felt but that sounds dodgy to me...

Does this one...

...have an unusual texture to it?

I am mighty tempted by the Boo one, even though it would probably look a bit better on a black unit.

Same with the wooden one. Shame really.

I got a feeling I might be pretty happy to be EU for this gen. Feel for you, guys.

Yeah, one of my mates has got a new 3DS and I didn't realise that she imported a couple of cover cover plates too and she's got the wooden one and white felt one. At first they both feel a bit...weird, because it's unusual. I'm glad I went for the wooden one though. I'm not so bothered about the look as I think the plain white one that you get with it is the nicest looking one but I do like how the wood and the felt feel.

Mentioned this in the EU launch thread, but I thought asking here is more appropriate: I have the wood faceplates and notice that the wood texture is somewhat smoother on the bottom faceplate in comparison to the top one. The top faceplate is slightly rougher and feels nicer too. Is this normal?
