New 3DS or New 3DS XL?

Anyone know where I can get a new nintendo 3DS screen protector in the uk? I've only seen the hori ones which are very expensive.

It's not advertised in store, they have them behind the counter for you to try there. Just go to them and ask if they have one to try, that's what I did a couple of days at my local Game store.

Thanks, I will give that a go!

I already have a black n3DS ordered with Amazon.fr for £120, only a few days left to make up my mind on whether to cancel....

If NOA ever decides to be gracious and release the regular size N3DS here, I'm really going to be torn I think. I love the idea of having the faceplates, but I've had a 3DS XL for years and wonder if it'll be hard to switch to a smaller system. I originally upgraded to an XL because I got wicked hand cramps with how small the OG 3DS is/was. I wonder if the N3DS would be comfortable or still give me the same problem.

To the people wondering if it will be hard to switch to a smaller system ... the answer is no since the new model is larger than the old.
I go back and forth between my N3DS and OG XL.

Do you find the new screen more pleasing to look at?

Is it still comfortable to hold? (May I ask how large your hands are?)

How do old DS games look on the system, in either scaling mode?

It's bad enough for me that there are games I can't simply play on my jumbotron... So the XL is the least sucky option for me.

Decided to stick with n3DS black after reading positive comments from someone with bigger hands like me. Also the new Zelda faceplate is gorgeous.

By the way, if there's anyone from Europe in this thread that wants a free copy of Dead or Alive Dimensions, give me a PM and I'll send it your way.

edit - and gone

I was massively torn between the two models after owning an XL since it launched - I decided on the smaller for the portability and customisation and have no regrets. I hardly notice that the screen is smaller for most games, and the ability to change to way it looks is addictive!

(We've even started 3D printing our own blank and custom cover plates for it)

That's really cool. I'm looking forward to some intricate 3D printed designs such as these:

Oh yeah, the 3.5 inches is the perfect for eyes to not strain. My old 3DS hurt my eyes.
The console is very comfortable and old DS games are pretty much 1:1 and not too bad stretched, at least compared to the XL stretch setting which is really ugly.
You can get plain, wood, and felt covers. I highly recommend the felt. Totally worth the 30 bucks or the Pokémon Center edition.

Ooh, where can I find which covers are felt?

They sure seem to be selling the old 3ds XL without an issue.

They sure don't seem to be selling the old 3DS XL. As has been the case for years, Nintendo hardware is being sold by resellers on Amazon. Sometimes fulfilled by Amazon, which allows Prime members to buy with 2 day free shipping.

I still cant decide between the MH Special Edition and the Zelda Special Edition. Any recommendations? Are there any unboxing videos or real-life pictures of both versions out yet?

I don't get why they didn't use removable faceplates on the new XL too, new 3DS is so much more appealing now but I've already switched from 3DS to XL and simply can't go back to that size.

I'm going for the smaller N3DS. I enjoy my XL, but in some games I find the screen is just a bit too large. Pokemon for example, looks way better on my smaller 3DS. The N3DS is a good compromise, a bit bigger then my normal 3DS, but a bit smaller then my XL. Perfect pixel density. And it has faceplates. Can't wait for the glow in the dark Boo faceplate. And the N3DS actually fits in my pockets.

I preordered the black N3DS and the golden Majoras Mask edition. But think I will go for the smaller N3DS. Gold is not my color and the faceplates are just too frickin' awesome :).

Also I think its easier to play with the C-Stick on a smaller handheld. "Tried" it with my old XL yesterday and it felt uncomfortable.

Bask in the cover plate culture!
You can get wood, felt, glow-in-the-dark, matte, and gloss covers.

No. 12 is the public one.
It is on Nin-Nin: http://www.nin-nin-game.com/en/japa...ries/12946-cover-plates-no-12-new-3ds-en.html and Nippon-Yansan: https://www.nippon-yasan.com/ninten...8975-new-nintendo-3ds-cover-plates-no012.html

I have a black and a red preordered. I was planning on keeping the red, but now seeing it more closely and looking at the black, I think I'll stick with black. I have Cosmo black 3DS and black XL.

I really wish they had released the blue here.

Finally found an unboxing of the Red XL.

I have the black on order but I am really curious about how this one will look in person.
Thanks for posting! I have my red on pre-order and I wasn't sure how well it'd look. In the few videos we've seen it's looked either maroon, slightly pink, and bright red.

I always tend to go with white handhelds or colorful ones so I was worried if it'd be super ugly or not (since it's basically the only colorful option). Wish there was a emerald green XL though. The lack of green Nintendo handhelds is criminal. Think the last one in NA was the lime green DS Lite (which I own).

I was hoping it was a new video.

I wonder why Reds are so rare. They have sent out more Zelda consoles than the red one to media.

Because red is a loud color and probably they have sales data on previous 3ds that it does not sell as well as black. There is probably some gender demographics at play, red targeted at girls, fewer girls play nintendo.

I currently have an XL that I'll be trading in towards either a N3DS or N3DS XL, and for the life of me I can't decide which to go for.

One the one hand, I really like the better pixel density on the N3DS and the form factor is miles ahead of the XL, but I don't care about face plates. On the other hand, I expect to play a lot of Majora's Mask and Monster Hunter on it, which I imagine would benefit from the increased screen just from a visibility/readability standpoint.

Anyone else in this spot?

XL, the size is soooo worth it. I honestly think the faceplates are pretty ugly so I'm happy we have the XL coming here this Friday. Super excited to pick it up!

Same. I'm going for Pixel density though. MH4 looks atrocius on the XL size screen in my opinion.

I just watched some gameplay videos, and MH4 looks
atrocious, period.

But seriously, why does this series always have a UI that looks like it was made in Visual Basic?

I was, but then I realized that if I can see dithering on my XL, and I can all the time, visibility won't be a problem. Likewise I can go back and play my DS Lite just fine.

Now my problem is NOA IS STUPID AND ISN'T RELEASING THE NORMAL SIZE HERE.

Its an acquired taste, like all great things in life :)
You have to admit the UI is pretty terrible though.
Also, the XL white knights are pretty funny.
Yikes. Black is the easy winner.
Which is sad. None of the systems released look that great. Really missed the chance to make a dark purple system.
Edit: Also the video really shows why gloss is a bad idea. See the light reflections.

No, they don't. Amazon isn't selling any Nintendo hardware directly. It's all 3rd party retailers where Amazon just handles the shipping, likely because that retailers uses Amazon warehouses as storage. Amazon themselves doesn't sell them, nor does Nintendo as a retailers sell them through amazon. Now, Nintendo sells games and lots of other things through Amazon, but not hardware.

I just joined the new 3ds xl club. Ordered a black one with monster hunter 4, zelda a link between world's and bravely default. I'll prolly get a cpl old school favorites from the e shop too :)

I'm sorry if this is the wrong spot to ask this, but does anyone here know how soon Best Buy ships new consoles? I pre-ordered my black New 3DS XL from them, and was just wondering how quickly it would arrive. I usually order from Amazon, but they don't have any to sell yet. Best Buy also isn't showing pick-up at store as an option.

I'm really struggling here too. Have a MM3DSXL preordered but I am entering the last window in which it can be cancelled - I don't know whether I want this or the standard n3DS! Help me GAF!

For reference - had an og 3DS, upgraded to XL. Love the screen size, and more comfortable to hold (I'm 6'2") but the bigger pixels do really bug me. Gloss and Faceplates aren't factors on either side. I'm thinking the slightly bigger size of the n3DS might make it ok but dammit I can bring myself to cancel the MM edition XL!

The standard n3DS has a screen size in-between the OG XL and OG 3DS which is great. From what I seen though, the MM XL looks great to display but will be a nightmare to keep clean for daily use. The regular systems are matte and keep clean very easy. Plus you can get wood and felt covers if you want something other than matte.
So the standard system is great and this is coming from someone who used an XL much before and felt that the OG was too small. I really do not miss screen size at all switching back and forth.

If you can afford it, you could just display the MM XL and buy a regular for everyday use. If not, then I understand canceling the XL order. There isn't that much the new XL does different than the old XL compared to the new 3DS does from the OG 3DS.

This video I totally agree with: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZzeM7nvbw8

"A nightmare to keep clean"? The OG was glossy, inside and out, and all it required was an occasional wipe with the microfibre pouch.

Doing that each time you play sounds like a nightmare to me, but different perspectives I guess. Been touching the regular n3DS all week and it is still clean on the outside.
Although the Hori cover does make the cleaning point mute, but it won't look as pretty. My regular still looks pretty and doesn't require consistent cleaning so that is why I like it.

I spent a while playing on both sizes, and for me, XL is the superior gaming experience, especially when playing in 3D. Although the standard size is a bit bigger than before, I feel it's still just a touch too small. However, I do wish we could have faceplates on the XL.

Personally for me a nice looking matte plate would probably be enough to get me to upgrade in NA. I am boycotting the gloss though. Hated it on the OG 3DS, never again.
Yeah, the gloss isn't ideal. Perhaps you should hold out, as I think there's a good chance a matt model may show up in future.
That is what I am hoping for. Matte Fire Emblem LE with game included for $200 for be awesome.
