It's not advertised in store, they have them behind the counter for you to try there. Just go to them and ask if they have one to try, that's what I did a couple of days at my local Game store.
To the people wondering if it will be hard to switch to a smaller system ... the answer is no since the new model is larger than the old.
I go back and forth between my N3DS and OG XL.
Why isn't this on amazon yet? I mean officially and not 3rd parties
I was massively torn between the two models after owning an XL since it launched - I decided on the smaller for the portability and customisation and have no regrets. I hardly notice that the screen is smaller for most games, and the ability to change to way it looks is addictive!
(We've even started 3D printing our own blank and custom cover plates for it)

They sure seem to be selling the old 3ds XL without an issue.
Oh yeah, the 3.5 inches is the perfect for eyes to not strain. My old 3DS hurt my eyes. Thanks!
Do you find the new screen more pleasing to look at?
Is it still comfortable to hold? (May I ask how large your hands are?)
How do old DS games look on the system, in either scaling mode?
Yeah gloss does bother some people. On the topic of comfort, I bought this ugly but extremely comfortable grip for my XL, and have never looked back:

The console is very comfortable and old DS games are pretty much 1:1 and not too bad stretched, at least compared to the XL stretch setting which is really ugly.
You can get plain, wood, and felt covers. I highly recommend the felt. Totally worth the 30 bucks or the Pokémon Center edition.

I still cant decide between the MH Special Edition and the Zelda Special Edition. Any recommendations? Are there any unboxing videos or real-life pictures of both versions out yet?
Finally found an unboxing of the Red XL.
I have the black on order but I am really curious about how this one will look in person.
There's finally an unboxing video of New Red and it looks glorious:

Bask in the cover plate culture!I preordered the black N3DS and the golden Majoras Mask edition. But think I will go for the smaller N3DS. Gold is not my color and the faceplates are just too frickin' awesome.
Also I think its easier to play with the C-Stick on a smaller handheld. "Tried" it with my old XL yesterday and it felt uncomfortable.
No. 12 is the public one.Ooh, where can I find which covers are felt?

Thanks for posting! I have my red on pre-order and I wasn't sure how well it'd look. In the few videos we've seen it's looked either maroon, slightly pink, and bright red. Finally found an unboxing of the Red XL.

I was hoping it was a new video.
I wonder why Reds are so rare. They have sent out more Zelda consoles than the red one to media.

I currently have an XL that I'll be trading in towards either a N3DS or N3DS XL, and for the life of me I can't decide which to go for.
One the one hand, I really like the better pixel density on the N3DS and the form factor is miles ahead of the XL, but I don't care about face plates. On the other hand, I expect to play a lot of Majora's Mask and Monster Hunter on it, which I imagine would benefit from the increased screen just from a visibility/readability standpoint.
Anyone else in this spot?
I was, but then I realized that if I can see dithering on my XL, and I can all the time, visibility won't be a problem. Likewise I can go back and play my DS Lite just fine.Anyone else in this spot?
I just watched some gameplay videos, and MH4 looksatrocious, period.
But seriously, why does this series always have a UI that looks like it was made in Visual Basic?
You have to admit the UI is pretty terrible though. Its an acquired taste, like all great things in life![]()
Which is sad. None of the systems released look that great. Really missed the chance to make a dark purple system.Yikes. Black is the easy winner.

Looks nice.Mario Wood
The standard n3DS has a screen size in-between the OG XL and OG 3DS which is great. From what I seen though, the MM XL looks great to display but will be a nightmare to keep clean for daily use. The regular systems are matte and keep clean very easy. Plus you can get wood and felt covers if you want something other than matte.I'm really struggling here too. Have a MM3DSXL preordered but I am entering the last window in which it can be cancelled - I don't know whether I want this or the standard n3DS! Help me GAF!
For reference - had an og 3DS, upgraded to XL. Love the screen size, and more comfortable to hold (I'm 6'2") but the bigger pixels do really bug me. Gloss and Faceplates aren't factors on either side. I'm thinking the slightly bigger size of the n3DS might make it ok but dammit I can bring myself to cancel the MM edition XL!
Doing that each time you play sounds like a nightmare to me, but different perspectives I guess. Been touching the regular n3DS all week and it is still clean on the outside."A nightmare to keep clean"? The OG was glossy, inside and out, and all it required was an occasional wipe with the microfibre pouch.
Personally for me a nice looking matte plate would probably be enough to get me to upgrade in NA. I am boycotting the gloss though. Hated it on the OG 3DS, never again.I spent a while playing on both sizes, and for me, XL is the superior gaming experience especially when playing in 3D. Although the standard size is a bit bigger than before, I feel it's still just a touch too small. However, I do wish we could have faceplates on the XL.
That is what I am hoping for. Matte Fire Emblem LE with game included for $200 for be awesome.Yeah, the gloss isn't ideal. Perhaps you should hold out, as I think there's a good chance a matt model may show up in future.
