New Age of Empires title announced for mobile

Like always, Microsoft is late to a business model. I can only imagine the morning boardroom meeting where some exec saw how much money Clash of Clans makes a day.

Yep. Not only is this going to fail in the mobile market, but it's also pissing off lifelong AOE fans.

AoE could work on mobile, but the fact that its free-to-play means it's gonna be a fucking microtransaction filled piece of crap.

Not much mention of Microsoft on the trailer or the website, only a disclaimer. Pretty sure this is more of a "can we use the age of empires brand for this amount of $$$ / %" kind of deal rather than anything MS has actively worked on.
 
I'm even more thankful for the Alpha-Centauri-2-in-all-but-name announcement now. There's nothing more useless to me than a free to play mobile AoE, sheesh.
 
I really wish this whole free-to-play thing would end.

This irritates me as someone who thinks there are some good original games and ports to be found on the iPad's app store. Too bad you have to wade through a river of diarrhea to find a lot of it.
 
This is becoming fucking heartbreaking.

Let's just turn every game into a free to play MMO FPS mobile app with microtransactions and paid subscription!
 
I thought Age of Empires Online was OKish, and I even bought a couple of Civs qnd played a few months, but the model asn't any good, and it was obvious there was a greed component to it from the get go. At least it had some remnants from the good 'ol AoE 2 we all loved. This tho...

What a shame.
 
There is a Age of Empires III dumbphone game which was actually really good, but this smartphone game looks awful in almost every way. Those unit animations....

Oop yeah just remembered to preorder Age of Mythology HD on Steam. Nearly forgot. Thanks awful horrible game announcement.

They could instead have ported the DS games. Those were surprisingly good games, and really left me desiring a turn-based Age of Empires games for the PC.
 
I was saddened when watching that video. I used to love AOE and the days of gaming when you couldn't pay your way to victory. :/
 
This is breaking my heart...it was one of my favourite game series and now they turned it in free to play monster.

But...what is that with rollercoaster tycoon 4?! Dont tell me its also for mobile!!! my avatar already shows what I will do then..
 
This is utterly tragic, i wish we could have a proper AoE sequel. I would do anything to recreate that magic of the paladin rush in AoE2.

I feel like i could cry :(
 
I don't get it.

Dungeon Keeper, Rollercoaster Tycoon, Age of Empires.

We know these brands, many of us really like at least one or two of them, right? We remember original PC games. We aren't the audience of these new mobile titles, most of us think it's a blasphemy - you can even see that in comment section below trailer.

So, can anyone explain, why the hell they are using these old brands? People who will buy these games don't even know what Age of Empires is oO

LOL thats an horrible trailer!! It doesnt look anything with the original game. Its clear that they just used that name to sell it better.
 
It's incredible how drastic your feelings change just by reading a single thread title like this one. I read "New Age of Empires title..." And I was about to scream of happiness... reading the last part of the title while watching the trailer and now I literally want to cry. That doesn't look like AoE at all :'(
