So this is actually a sequel?

Apparently so. What bothers me is the title of the film. They have to name it something else. It gives the wrong impression if the story is based on Alice going back to Wonderland.

They want to turn Alice into this new goth-emo-teenage psycho shit teens crave. Naming it something else wouldn't bring these people in the theater.

Not bad. I'm much more impressed with this trailer than the first one, but I'm still not a huge fan of some of the CG. (the pig) It does look fairly action-packed, which is great for a Burton film, where the visuals are generally the main draw. It should be interesting to see how it pans out, and I will likely be checking it out in theatres.

Have people forgotten about this already?

It's not like Burton was the first to make Alice a psychotic teenager.

Look, whine asses. What's the movie called. Alice in Wonderland.

Where is Alice?

IN WONDERLAND.

Get over it!

I thought this was a more authentic retelling of the original book. Drat and double drat.
I thought (and hoped) so too. Although I did think the original story might be too short for a movie. I wonder what he made of the story.

They should have called it "Alice returns to Wonderland" or something. I guess people think a sequel to old movies always end up shit?

Should have just made this instead.

I'm not sure of the quality of the movie, but I want to see it nonetheless.

I'm sorry, are we watching the same trailer?

To be fair, I had the trailer paused halfway and posted before finishing watching. Seems kinda...well ok nevermind. I don't know much about the Alice books anyways.

It's not like Burton was the first to make Alice a psychotic teenager.

Where in this trailer is Alice doing anything psychotic? She looks like a normal english girl? I didn't see her walking around in black with Godsmack playing in the background.

BTW, She didn't even act crazy in the Alice PC game. She seemed pretty damned normal and tamed, just defending herself and crying a bit when her wonderland friends died.

Personally I didn't find her to come off as very psychotic in the trailer, I was just responding to the guy who accused Burton of turning Alice into a psychotich goth chick (!?).

As for the game, she obviously didn't come off as stark raving mad, but considering it all supposedly happened inside her head, I'd still say she was a right looney, at least until you completed the game and all was well. Which makes the sequel interesting, how are they going to explain Wonderland going down the shitter again, unless Alice has some sort of mental breakdown prior to the happenings of the game?

Yeah, well I always wanted a movie adaptation of the Alice game but meh I don't care anymore. Seems sorta like they're taking a little of the plot from it of the red queen taking over. Sides that I doubt they'll touch on any psychological things in this movie.

The more I learn about this film the less I want to see it. sigh...guess I'll stick with Sci-Fi's rendition as my "Alice returns to Wonderland" update.

Tim Burton's "Alice Returns" :lol

"Go through the looking glass"

What exactly does this follow? The two books, or just the first one?

It seems to me it has more of Through the Looking Glass in it, but from that trailer it pretty clearly doesn't really follow either in particular.

I was still excited about this film until I saw Alice wearing armor.

Really...realllly Tim?

"Alice, you're back" in the original trailer didn't tip anyone off that it wasn't a retelling of the original? Or that Alice, you know, isn't a little girl?

The first trailer showed the Tim Burton has gone batshit insane. I was just assuming they made Alice a 17 year old instead of 8.

And I don't remember the "Alice, you're back" line in the original, but in this trailer it's jarring.

Looks like Burton is trying to do with "Alice In Wonderland" what "Return to Oz" did with "Wizard of Oz".

Burton you're weird, but you will never out-weird "Return to Oz".

Maybe not, but he's going to damn well die trying!

I'm confused. I watched the first half of Sy-Fy's Alice last night, and am planning to watch the second half tonight.

The plot of this movie seems to be practically identical. Is there some sort of shared source material, or is it a coincidence?

Tim Burton must idolize George Lucas. I mean, isn't it the goal of every young visionary director to eventually become so wrapped up in special effects and devoid of the ability to view your own work with a critical eye that you devolve into a sad parody of your former self?

Why did they emphasize the battle scenes so much =/

Because it's a movie trailer which is supposed to get people excited and want to see the movie?

And the general populous wouldn't be interested if the trailer wasn't fast paced and action-packed. That's just how audiences are.

Looks really terrible. Why does every backdrop look so blatantly CGI and totally removed from the actors? Would it have been really so hard to build some of the sets?
Seriously. Burton flicks used to have a sort of authentic gothic atmosphere because of the set designs and models used. Now it's all overdone CGI and it looks truly awful. There was barely one shot in that trailer where the actors looked to be part of the setting.

To make such an observation, don't you need to watch the actual movie instead of a 2 minute trailer?

I can understand people bitching about the CGI, because it is displayed in the trailer, but some of you are clearly on the hate train giving commentary on things you can't possibly deduct from two minutes of footage.

I consider his filmography over the last decade ample evidence*. This trailer only reinforces the notion. It doesn't take a genius to realize Tim Burton doing a "dark" Alice in Wonderland featuring Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter is self indulgence at its best.

*Disclaimer- I have not seen Big Fish.

I enjoyed Big Fish, but it's the exception to a very strong rule.

Honestly, this looks like such lazy, cliched crap. It's American McGee's Alice crossed with those borderline softcore pron Alice comics, toned down and aimed at a thirteen year old female audience. It's so cynical it makes me sick.

Really? With all the ads focusing on the Hatter? How in god's name did you get that impression?
In God's name? Well, it's simply called Alice in Wonderland and not Alice in Wonderland: The The Hatter's Hat or something. Only reason they'd show Depp is because he's the biggest star in it. Mehtacular.

It would be a bit ridiculous, at this point and especially given the history of Depp+Burton, to think that Depp in a Burton film plastered all over the posters means he's playing the bit role the Hatter should be in an even remotely accurate retelling of Alice in Wonderland. It just wouldn't make sense.

They might as well rename this to "TIM BURTON MOVIE" slap on red letters and a white background and call it a day

A twisted retelling of a classic story with great actors and eccentric art design? This is definitely my bag. I can't wait for this film to enfold me in layers of madcap fantasia. Afterward I'll laugh at all the people complaining that Tim Burton made something that looks like it was made by Tim Burton.
