New amazing Mass Effect trailer

Saw this like two weeks ago.

Go away, Shepard-actor. Are you a robot or a paid voice actor with actual human qualities?

I am a huge sci-fi nut so this game should play straight to my wheelhouse, but I can't shake the fact that everytime I see these guys engaged in a firefight, it looks sterile, dull and just outright boring.

Watching the HD version from GS over the 360 on the 61incher is where it's at. Let's just say I've watched it a few times.

This makes me want to leave work and drive down to Biowares office and prostrate on their doorstep. Be back in 30 minutes.

Meh the combat looks bad still. The RPG elements will be awesome, but the combat is just not there for me.

the facial expressions are so friggin' terrible i can't even believe they're making such a fuss about it. the voice acting, just like the facial expressions, is so lifeless and holy shit at the framerate. it's almost like a slideshow at some points.

the framerate will be fixed, no doubt, and everything else does look good to me including the gameplay which seems to be fine judging from the video's i've seen, but the va and facial expressions, lol.

the trailer itself was pretty good, though. epic stuff.

I agree that the facial animation is kind of 'off'. That's the problem when you use a programmatic system to do dialogue.. although with the amount of pre-recorded audio, getting an animator to keyframe the facial animation would take forever.

Otherwise I think it looks fantastic

Like quoting your entire comment would have made much difference.
Ok. Do you find the voice talent behind Shepard to be engaging and dramatic? Do you find the combat segments exciting?

Yes, but I liked the combat in Oblivion, so what do I know.

^ None of that really bothers me. I mean... the voice acting isn't anything special, but it's decent enough that I'm not annoyed by it.

What bothers me is the combat. I don't like it at all.

I'll definitely buy this game, despite what I believe to be boring, generic combat, but I'm not really too hyped for it. There still seems to be a lot of really cool stuff in the game, but a huge portion of the game is fighting... and if that isn't interesting...

I do too. The VA sounds standard-OK to me, and the combat looks cool as hell.

Well, ok.

But Oblivion was a 1st-person hack'n slash. This is a 3rd person cover shooter w/ squad commands. Not really very similar, imo.

Not sold on Shepards VA. Of course you can go female as well IIRC. Although I believe the entire VA will be solid. The combat on the other hand more than sold.

It's not a shooter unless you want it to be.

I know what you're saying, but HL2 had remarkably excellent facial expressions in 2004, and to my knowledge it was all done programmatically.

Well, you must enjoy listening to Robot Men, then. Nothing wrong with that, I guess.

I didn't say I "enjoyed" it, just that it sounded pretty standard to me. I'm far more annoyed by really bad VA like the Heavenly Sword demo cut-scene than "robot men" VA.

If you decided to play that way. I was a mage/thief, so ranged combat was my thing.

The combat looks like fun to me. I agree it doesn't reinvent the wheel or anything, but as long as it can stay challenging throughout, I will have a blast with it.

Strange that you would bring up that game as a point of comparison, because the two aren't even in the same league. The voice acting in HS makes very, very short work of this.

one thing tho:

this game looks very american. i suppose that's a diss and a comment on inexperience in the console action game genre.

there's also no denying its pc heritage. thats a diss as well for a console game.

and for all the flack "spirits within" gets as a movie, i see shades of it everywhere in modern games, this one no exception.

Actually, it looks like they've blended Sheppard Model 2 (which I like) with Sheppard Model 3 (which I think is awful). And you've got that.

It's constipation. :lol

looks awezom, wish it had online coop. but i wish that about every game.

Uh no. Not even comparable. The overall VA in MA is in another league, plain and simple.

I bring it because, and this is my opinion, it's so bad it really disturbed me, real bad acting, exaggerating every emotion, and it annoyed me since the first King Serkis clips. Anyway, I was talking about it with a friend like two hours ago, so, as we're talking about VA, I immediatly thought of it. In the case of ME, it's as bland as it gets, but I don't really see how it could be disturbing as it's not particularly worse than what we're used to.
