Honestly, I'm not very surprised to hear this. Sadly.

Edit:

I've been keeping up with this project they were going to do this EXACTLY RIGHT sucks but I can't say I'm shocked.

According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, Amazon execs were concerned that Gero's take on the series would not have broad appeal beyond the franchise's already dedicated fanbase.

Amazon wants Stargate for modern audiences

"The fans are gonna love it... cancel it." - Amazon, apparently

Wow, I would LOVE to see what they were working on and had planned. Stargate seems like an absolute "can't miss" IP as they already cracked the character templates needed and could just soft reboot it.

But they gotta do episodic stuff with COMPETENT CREW, not a bunch of broken, traumatized, shellshocked, divergent, and antagonistic people where each episode is just a writers most recent therapy session about how much of a jerk their dad was.

Just imagine SG-1 but they have the budget to go places other than pacific northwest forests, that one sandy/rocky place, or one room temples :P

First reaction was "motherfuckers" but realizing they wont destroy stargate making it for the elusive modern audience is probably for the best

The red flags where there when they announced Roland Emmerich had some involvement, 99% of the value of the franchise was the shows.

Stargate is one of the last unviolated franchises left, leave it be.

Maybe put some effort into remastering SG-1 first, give it the TNG treatment.

It was a series that avoided the pitfalls of several modern remakes and reboots by fully embracing the core of its predecessors: action, adventure, exploration, wonder, heart, humor, and found family.

Considering it would likely have been wokeified I think this is a good thing.
I see you aren't aware of Stargate Origins. Be glad. I wasn't a fan of Universe either back in the day. Too much on the teenage drama side.

SG-1 was genuinely good at times with competent charachters and Atlantis was a really fun sci-fi show with some great/hilarious episodes.

I've more or less reconciled that the Sci-Fi era of my teens and twenties has long come to an end. It's not just because of the people making the decisions who control the IPs. Even if the show was great, my interests have shifted so I simply wouldn't get the same enjoyment.

I haven't watched the shows yet
SG1 series is (with a few episodes exceptions) is awesome. Lots of people seem to think so
The show ran from summer 1997 through summer 2007, making it one of the longest-running U.S. sci-fi series at the time, 10 series, 214 episodes. The original film was not much above average, the series knocked it out of the park

A show as downright embarrassingly awful as Star Trek Academy gets made and Amazon with their unlimited budget cant put a single fucking season of Stargate together!?!? cunts

Maybe they thought it was going to actually be good and didn't want to ruin their streak.
Amazon does have "good" shows that aren't just focus group 4 quadrant slop.

I gotta think the cost was just too high, big space battles and giant sets. Sg-1 had like 1 nice set (the gate room) a few office sets, and then the same couple of clearings in the woods, so you know it could be done on a shoestring budget compared to a lot of today's shows.

When shit like severance cost 100 mill a season or whatever, its fucked up.

for fuck's sake you're massive, Stargate doesn't need "BROAD APPEAL." You can take the hit to add to your catalogue, damn. Everything gotta be about numbers going up.

The original show was very practical heavy for a Sci fi show, lots of location shooting with gun fire and explosions. Would a "modern" Stargate with CGI sets, CGI gunfire and CGI explosions hit the same?

Hey maybe it's better they didn't get a chance to ruin another beloved show from the 90s. 'New' Buffy also dodged a bullet.

sad but at the same time it's Amazon so it probably would have been woke slop anyway
