New BIOSHOCK 2 Teaser Site Launches

Why don't you buy one of the Little Sister figures off the 2K Games store?

Say....what now?

EDIT: so awesome

Little Sister Figurine

The ultimate item for an avid BioShock collector, each Little Sister figurine is cast in ceramic and hand-painted. She stands just over 3” tall and is designed to-scale with the Big Daddy figurine previously available in the Bioshock Limited Edition. This figurine is a one-time production run in very limited and is available for purchase only through this store.

My main concern for the sequel is the story, I hope it will at least be of the same quality as BioShock 1. The story was probably the best part of the game for me.

If Shalebridge Cradle in Thief 3 and Fort Frolic in Bioshock are any indication Sea of Dreams in in good hands in that respect. Great examples of integrating story into fantastic level-design.

Site's updated. The crazy guy sending theories about things that washed up on the beach is named Jeremiah Lynch, not Jack. There are three new pieces of paper- a photo, a newspaper clipping, and a letter. If this is going to be a daily thing, consider me excited.

Cool. I hope they keep updating it regularly.

Oh wow, what could have produced those footprints? Not any known Big Daddy or Splicer. And what of this mysterious ribbon? Something from a new Little Sister?

Oh fuck yes. Finally. BioShock is my GOTG so far, so color me excited for the unveiling of Sea of Dreams. I just hope Ken Levine wrote the story.

But, er, 1967? No art deco = fail. However, the font they use for ‘Loading’ and ‘Sound’ are typically art deco, so here’s hoping...

It was briefly touched on in this thread, but the Rapture store launched a while back. The lithographs sold out in under 48 hours, luckily i managed to nab one of each. They are going to be restocked sometime soon though, so keep watching the site if you want one because they will go fast. The only thing still in stock is the Little Sister figurine.

Anybody recently been to the site again? It has one more written letter, and clip from a newspaper, and a photograph (with comments).

Love this type of marketing. It's really getting me hyped.

Nice! I would love to have those lithographs. How do you know they are going to be restocked? Any idea when?

I posted over on the 2K Forums that they were going to be restocked, and they will be restocked soon. I'll update you guys about it when they go on sale if you'd like, as long as this thread, or another like it, is still alive.

Thanks, I would love to get one or both of those!

Hey, it's Elizabeth! Did your account just get activated? I was surprised to see that this post was yours. Welcome to GAF!

Awesome, the site is updating daily. I'm hoping this is a lead-up to a major reveal, hopefully some gameplay footage before the end of the month. 2K established a very solid, respectable IP with Bioshock, so they can approach the PR for the sequel in any way they wish to control the hype. The game is expected to launch in Q3-4 this year so the time is definitely ripe to start stirring up the fanbase.

As for the person/creature described in the snippets on the teaser site, I was particularly interested by the statement "the metallic soles do not resemble any civilian or military footgear". Couple that info with the photo of the weirdly placed toe, and it's possible we may be looking at an evolved Big Daddy, i.e, one that wasn't constructed from an overspliced human. It may be a heavily integrated splicer/mechanical symbiote that was spawned from original Big Daddies, but retained it's young girl-fostering instincts. The allusions to original Big Daddies are certainly there, i.e, "Mysterious Crimson Lights".

I'm probably way off, but that's half the fun of these viral campaigns.

I'm always around here, just don't post often. Especially in threads like these, I don't want to go mucking around in threads about my work.

But I'm always here if you have a question or anything else -- especially about the swag I make. No mysteries there.

Anything new coming out anytime soon (swag-wise)?

Maybe a Prototype? Didn't the game mention that they had failed experiments with them?

NICE! I really wanted the Masquerade Lithograph but was unable to obtain it.

I would imagine the original Big Daddy prototype would have been built with conventional materials, and the boots would have been a standard, readily-available make, contrary to the statement in the newspaper clipping. There are interesting features in the footprint photo: The symmetrical placement of the weird toe-like protuberance and the pattern of the soles. It looks like a disfigured human foot fused with a boot, hence my symbiont idea.

It looks like 2K is suggesting the existence of a leaner, more agile Big Daddy, but I think it will be different in a way we won't expect. My thoughts are leaning towards the evolution of second-generation plasmid side effects. We're seeing denizens of Rapture display new, unexplained features and abilities (Little Sister psychokinetic powers perhaps; Fast, motivated Big Daddies) that may be a result of prolonged splicing.

what is the size of these? would be nice to frame possibly...

Now, Liscannor, Co Clare is not in Galway, but this is interesting:-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liscannor

Quote:
Liscannor is also noted as the birthplace of engineer and submarine innovator John Philip Holland.

Submarine? Hmmmm...

The more I think about it I don't think that this can be a coincidence - the static sounds possibly like a submarine, the lights in Liscannor Bay are possibly a submarine.

Now, what if the other locations on the map have some kind of aquatic/underwater significance?

I'm liking this teaser a lot!

Edit - doing a bit of digging, and John Holland emigrated to the States and his 1st submarine was built in shipyards in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

When you cross reference Elizabeth, New Jersey with the flash image of all the locations, it's almost a perfect match for one of the marked locations...

First, and most importantly, I'm extremely excited for this game :D I know it's the "cool" thing to say, but I'll toss it around again simply because it cannot be overstated -- the involvement of Jordan Thomas in what I suspect is a directing capacity. That's just a huge boost in street cred for this game, and I can't wait to see in what darker directions BioShock 2 will take us.

Second, I'm still a little worried about BioShock 2, and a "return to Rapture" scenario. As others in this thread have said, we have already gone down that road, and so being able to replicate that feeling of initial wonderment, fear and discovery must somewhat paradoxically be there, and yet, not be the discovery of Rapture itself. I simply don't know how they'll pull it off, but it absolutely must be present for this game to feel like anything but a retread of sorts (even if it's a gloriously awesometastic retread).

Finally, I'm still excited. This teaser website is really cool, and it feels extremely eerie to read the entries. I wonder, will some of BioShock 2 not take place in Rapture at all? Is it possible that some of the game may be just detective work, trying to track down the "kidnappers" and, eventually, following one into Rapture? Who knows. I sure hope it goes down something like that.

I await a trailer with nothing short of nervous excitement. I'm on the edge of hype, but I dare not cross that threshold until I know for sure that BioShock 2 will deliver on the fronts that are most important to me.

YES!
I wouldn't mind it if a sequel had just half the charm. That said, I would love it if the designs were more macabre, like the ones in that Art of Rapture pdf from Cult of Rapture. Imagine splicers with a more animalistic side. (Strong as bears, fast as tigers, tentacly as octopii and so on)

And please, the inclusion of Radio Rapture. I want more music. (I bought Beyond the Sea on iTunes just because of Bioshock.)

The site has been updated with four new pieces of information.

I can see the addition of a few more dates X-marked along western Europe, but we already knew of these from cheating with from the Flash file image. Additionally, there is a blurry, semi-transparent photograph above the Middle East- hopefully the picture will be resolved into something more identifiable in the coming days. EDIT:- Site musn't have been working for me properly, reloaded and the images were there.

I think we're looking at the map of someone tracking out the occurrence of a single Quasi-Big Daddy. It is sited in Ireland, southern England, and around the Netherlands on the 20th of Febrauary, 15 and 16th of March respectively- obviously moving very quickly. From the dates derived from the flash file, the being has skirted around the Atlantic Ocean very quickly. The X smack bang in the middle of the Atlantic is very ominous, and is thousands of miles away from the original Rapture just southwest of Iceland.

Okay, the little girls have to share some relationship, as the person making notes on these snippets is aware that they are all seven years old. The ADAM-producing sea slugs could only survive effectively in young human females, but I think the seven year's passing since the original Bioshock is too major an issue to overlook.
I think I'm starting to sound like one of those conspiracy theory nutcases, but it's Bioshock FFS!

One of the girls in the new update is 5

Late to the thread, but yeah, I can't wait.

A Levine-less Bioshock has me a little worried, but I'm still really looking forward to this.

I think it's in good hands, personally, but I'm more worried about how BioShock 2, by definition, can be as interesting and awe-inspiring as the first, given that we've already sort of had that sense of discovery already.

I hope the second game is much darker and more sinister.

Like I said, by not falling off in the second half. And maybe not introducing all the characters through audio tapes. And maybe actually being scary

Noticed that too. Whatever it is, it is moving quickly, and at least two of the three little girls look similar. Judging from the one who was having "night terrors," could she be a former little sister?

lol It's true.

The girl with night terrors was 5 and t apparently this is happening 7 years after rapture. Although we don't know the time frame of the kidnappings to the new game. These events could be happening a few years before the actual start of the game.

Slowtaku apparently have an inside scoop that the entity capturing the young girls is
a sleek, fast, female equivalent of a big daddy
. I remember having several spoilers for different games ruined for me by that website, just by browsing the headlines. Hope this doesn't take the fun out of the current viral campaign.

Bioshock 1 = Big Daddies/Eve
Bioshock 2 =
Big Mama/Eva?

I wonder if we'll play a detective in Bioshock 2. I could see it being kinda Condemned-ish, a great thing if you ask me.

The Big Daddies worked in small, tight areas that Bioshock had because they were slow but powerful. If they're super fast now then I guess we'll be seeing larger areas. I wonder if the game will take place entirely in Rapture or a new facility or will it be on land?

Would be interesting if Tenebaum herself was the "Big Mama"

From Bioshock Wikia:

In the ending of the game where Jack raises the Little Sisters, it is likely that Tenenbaum either came to the surface with Jack and continued to be a motherly figure, or with Ryan, Fontaine, and most Splicers dead, she stayed behind to look for Little Sisters to exorcise and/or protect.

What if she got obsessed, and became insane?

ALaz502 said:

I don't think Tenebaum will be in this game, or, at least, on the bad side. She worked so hard in the first game to get all the girls out of Rapture. Why would she be trying to bring them back seven years later, unless she somehow saved Rapture and made it a safe place?

Ugghhhhh. I swear to fuck, if this game goes down the
mutated adult females holding on to primal motherly instincts by kidnapping young girls
cliché bullshit path I'm going to be severely disappointed.
