New Nina design...fucking horrible.

This really takes me back to my memories of Breath of Fire.

This seems like a good of place to ask as any, but is there a reason Breath of Fire III isn't on the NA PSN? People off handedly refer to "issues" they never clarify.

I think SCEA had some stupid rule that psp ports had to have something additional from the original versions.

I think that's also why Suikoden II never released over here as well.

I THINK that's why, but I'm not positive myself.

"Something additional"? What could that mean? I can't think of any classics with any additional content. What would be required?

Well, FFT:WotL got a new translation, modes, characters

Valkyrie Profile got some CG cutscenes that tied stuff into VP: Silmeria

Those are just two off the top of my head.

You guys better get BoF4 from the PSN sale!

Suikoden II was (finally) ported to PSN last year. I don't think they added or changed anything either. D:

This week has probably been the worst week of gaming news for at least a decade.

And everyone telling people to buy older BoF instalments on PSN thinking it'll make Capcom release a real BoF instalment, it's not going to work. They'll use those profits to pay for more of these mobile games. If anything's been proven since last gen it's that Capcom is extremely out of touch with its fanbase.

That was the PSX version, not the PSP version. PSP got Suikoden 1+2 collection in Japan:

Maybe, but they're still getting a great game with dozens of hours of gameplay for less than a buck.

Seems like a win in my book.

That's pretty much it. Probably killed Mega Man Legends 1+2 PSP as well. Supposedly killed the Sakura Wars ports, even though those games never came out in NA!

SCEA required some arbitrary percentage of new content.

If that's actually the case, then why not just release the PS1 version for North America? It would still be better to have something over nothing at all. It's so petty.

Breath Of Fire was one of my favourite video game series as a kid, so I would have liked to play a new one which looked either cool or like the old ones, and this looks like neither. I remember the announcement of this now and kind of laughing at how terrible it looked, then forgot about it, and when I saw this topic I went 'oh cool!' for a second before I remembered. Looks like complete junk in every detail. At the same time, I wouldn't be interested in Breath of Fire I-V that much if they came out now, I don't think, anyway, so it's hard to really judge. The only thing I know is I'm not gonna play this.

No one should be surprised by how Capcom treats their classic IP anymore.

But none the less, sucks for all the fans of BoF who have been waiting for a sequel since 2002.

Because they legally can't. Capcom tried to put out the PSone version on PSN, but the game didn't pass legal. PSone Classics require an unmodified ISO.

This video goes through BoF3's situation.

Damn, that's unfortunate with the legal issues. Thanks for linking that video, it's nice to finally have the situation clarified like that.

With that said as the games progressed you do kinda feel the "sterility" of your party race lol

Dunno, man...Capcom isn't making too many RPGs nowadays, but this is the just a couple of pieces of art we got for them:

I just don't see a game Capcom cares about looking as uniform as this does.

Aren't those from artbooks tho? I mean sure they could hire great character designers, but Capcom's recent forays to RPG are very generic and stocky. I remember that failed attempt of a toyetic RPG Gaist Burst or something.

I'd say it's a stretch to say that the art direction they are using now is a natural progression from the previous 5 installments. There really is very little in common in terms of character design to say this is what BOF6 would look like if it was a non-mobile / non-f2p release. The similarities aren't really there. There are plenty of examples posted in this topic that showcases this.
Well, that assumes BoF6 even as a non-f2P game would be handled with care. You could still have the blue-haired Ryu but have the genericness of a modern Japanese RPG character design is all I'm saying. Like I said, Capcom wasn't taking care of their niche RPG well.

It would be better if SCEA and SCEE would modify their policy, but alas that's the world we live in. More localzed PS1 games wouldn't hurt.

Ehh even then, getting the modified psp version would be one thing, but the ps1 version would be entirely different. That video actually had a good point with how Stallion is clearly a rip off of Ultraman, which "could" lead to issues down the road if the creators cared enough, which could then lead to Capcom possibly losing money. It honestly all depends on current laws and if a company would even pursue legal action, because it sure as hell didn't happen with EarthBound releasing on VC lately and that was the biggest issue people thought was the reason why it didn't get rereleased(that and well....NoA).

I imagine the issue is that SCE no longer has the QA and certification support for PSone (and PS2) titles around anymore.

Looks like a "Tales" game instead of a BOF

Interestingly enough, I just received my breath of fire artbook. Make sure you get that. Excellent art.

I know Japan is heading towards a lot more mobile games, but fuck why can't they bring their awesome art style from past gen jrpgs to the mobile game industry!

i swear every rpg i see on the app store has this awful art style. WHY

This art style seems like an upgrade to me, honestly. Reminds me on the tales series. I love the anime art style used in those games.

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. After all, we've only seen a few screenshots and an anime trailer so far. I learned long ago never to judge a game on art style alone (and i'll be perfectly honest, some of those kemono wolfmen are kinda neat looking.)

I'll have a look on PC if we ever get a localisation.

Which Tales series would that be? Because even Tales games back on ps2 made this look like shit.

I think you might be seeing different screenshots than me. This does not look like "shit" by any means. If it did, this art style wouldn't be so popular.

Hmm, this also reminds me of the Neptunia series, which I need to try. The art in those games is really good too.

You're right, it looks like freemiumware of the highest degree, with character models that rival facebook game characters and will end up being as microtransaction loaded as them too. No, it looks like horse shit that was created by people who don't even care about the original series anymore and are using it's name to further dig the series grave and then blame fans for not buying the game that has nothing in common with anything in the series.

Since when did everyone become Derrick anyway? It seems everything is complete shit to everyone these days if a certain company makes it...

It's very clear that you're simply mad this is a mobile title and it has little to do with the art style itself. I imagine that must be the case for most of the people claiming this looks like "shit".

Man, legit depressed looking through all these pics and missing Breath of Fire.

Thanks for making me sad thread.

Fuck you, Capcom.

I still have a PC copy of BoF3, maybe I'll load that up.
