New COD4 Deep Silence video

Looks like a nice little feature, but it doesn't seem worth a standalone clip. Anyway, with every new clip I see it becomes harder and harder to grasp where in the hell all the raving about the visuals of this game comes from. It looks awesome, but certain people have made it sound like it's OMFG of previously unseen amazingtude and I do not ****ing see that here.

Single-player vs. Multiplayer.

From what I've seen, the SP is OMFG.

Yeah, you need to see that night-time firefight video that was released a little bit before E3. There's a 60 FPS version that just looks ****ing nuts.

You have likely seen stuff I haven't, but the SP stuff I have seen certainly doesn't qualify as anything above a conservative OMG. And then it hasn't even been a clip-spanning, drawn out OMG, but rather short moments of OMGs scattered throughout clips. For everything that is awesome there seems to be something that is borderline shit, like the gun models, and even some seriously dodgy looking characters.

Looks great, and I think I said as much when it was released. But on the level of holy shit omg **** that people were treating it during and after E3? No, not even close. That and other clips prove beyond any doubt that the game itself is going to be a trip, but that's it.

Dude, I don't really see it either. Maybe all of these first person military shooters are all starting to look the same to me. I don't know... I'm still waiting to be blown away. Even the MS E3 demo looked good, but not crazy enough to get the kind of press that it got. Hopefully, Infinity Ward will prove me wrong. As it stands, I'm ready to put COD 4 up there with drakes fortune, lair, and heavently sword as games where people are going nuts over the visuals and I'm like....ok. Again, it does look good, but IMHO, definitely not OMFG good. And, that's single player and multiplayer.

You sound angry. Are you angry? If you are, try rubbing your face in a warm towel. It temporarily worked for my 360, I hope it can work for you (if you are angry, by the way- are you?).

Damn straight, bub.

Although, not really. I've been psyched about this game for some time (since I saw that it was going to have SAS missions, to be precise), and I think it's certainly deserving of all the hype it can get in terms intensity and such, but this almost universal splooging over the graphics strikes me as odd.

You're kidding right? CoD4 is one of the top three games graphically for either console, and it's 60 fps.

Right, and it shows that they've had to cut in other areas to keep the 60fps. Some of the gun models are basically shit, texture quality bounces wildly between great and atrocious, and the character models while in some ways great still suffer from the COD2 normal mapitis (I don't actually know what technology it is that makes character surfaces look like clay draped in clear plastic or possibly drool, but I'll refer to it as normal mapitis for now), with characters in one setting looking good and others looking almost grotesque. It seems very inconsistent, with absolutely awesome hanging out with crud in just about every scene I've seen. It looks great, but I don't understand the almost universal praise, and almost universal blind eye to the flaws.

You might be right, you might be wrong. I'd wait for the final game before we say folks are turning a blind eye to anything. I mean, you're basically asking why folks are excited about the game and why they think it looks good and I think wario64 pretty much answered your question in an early post.

It looks insanely good in all the SP videos I've seen, including the "boring sniper video" at E3.

YMMV with military games? I dunno. I think Ratchet looks pretty meh graphically but I don't pop into those Ratchet threads saying so because I can see exactly why people love the graphics.

You can say this shit about any game. From Gears to Ratchet to MGS4 to KZ2. No game is ****ing perfect dude. WTF?

This game looks as good as any other game I've seen plus runs at 60fps!

are you serious? :lol

so gaf first complains about 30 fps not being enough. and when a studio actually listens and dedicates their time to make sure it stays 60 fps, people still bitch. either way, the game looks ****ing amazing and is running perfectly fluid.

Of course you can. Except it's not actually being said about this game. And when it is said by someone, that someone is then urged to hold any criticism until the final build, so apparently you can't "say this shit about any game".

I don't think I've seen AltogetherAndrews more serious than he is right now in this thread.

His shit might make you really angry.

And the comedown is harsh.

Okay, I need to leave the office NOW!

I'm incredibly impressed with single player. MP seems pretty standard to me though... I think it just comes down to how the game moves?

MP is the frantic, zip-around gameplay we've been seeing in FPS's for years... so it's kind of bland... it's still a marked improvement, but not quite as jarring to my senses as the single player footage. There's just so much going on during SP that I haven't seen from a shooter before... the battlefield seems very alive and the great animation you see on a ton of on-screen characters definitely helps sell the feeling of total freakin chaos... even if it's scripted, it's still awesome.

That was pretty badass... the game looks godly.

Altogether have you seen the single player footage?

Yes, and I've praised it up and down to the point where other users have urged me to calm down. That doesn't make it visually flawless, yet it's being treated as basically that.

Seriously.

The lack of any decent gun sway and creative camera work brings COD4 down a couple notches on my scorecard... even in SP. :faceshock:

No game has flawless visuals and anyone who says a game does is stupid... so just ignore them and their posts.

For the record, that sniper video is probably the most enticing of the bunch so far. Not as balls out intense as the urban combat stuff, but it's especially enticing because it has a very tangible Ghost Recon quality. As in, the very first Ghost Recon, only of course with far greater graphics and production values all around.

Yeah, that'd help a lot. I don't need anything as extreme as the gun view and recoil motion in for example Killzone 2 (I don't think that'd work well with the COD game speed and need for absolute situational awareness), but something a bit more pronounced than the rather static stuff they have in place now.

You seem cheerier. I think my warm towel idea worked.

As far as CoD4 goes, I'm not sure the combat will feel visceral enough. Are tampons or QTEs confirmed yet?

That's not a nice thing to say about Heavenly Sword.

army of two am crying

COD3 had some kind of horrendous QTE stuff, although that may not be the correct term for it. I only encountered it once before I decided to turn the game off and never turn it on again.

Yes, it did, but CoD4 is by the A Team.
