New consoles and rearranging your media center

But then you need your XBO to be on correct to use the Apple TV....that is just dumb.

Well, I mean if you're waiting for friends to get on Live, and you have a lot of content on iTunes that you can access with the Apple TV or whatever you use it for, then that's fine. It's the same as watching TV through it, though cable/satellite gets the added benefit of a integrated guide.

So I guess this is the best shot I have on my phone of my man cave:

I'm sort of challenged for space though in my four "slots" due to my gaming rig filling one of them, my power conditioner / Tivo Roamio / Tuning adapter filling another, and my center channel taking up a chunk of slot 3 (PS3 on top of that, Wii U next to it) and my monster Onkyo receiver dominating slot 4 (vertical X360 Slim next to it along with my Framemeister where I hook retro systems up)

I think the PS4 will take the X360 slot, but not sure how to work the Xbox One in just yet. Might be a situation where I move the Tivo to where the PS3 is, and then the XB1 can be on top of the Power Conditioner.

I'm good on HDMI ports though (8 on my receiver), and the TiVo Roamio will go through the Xbox One

I guess we'll see.

PS3 / X360 will move off into those side areas alongside all my other consoles.

I already have it figured out. Ps3 goes into bedroom, Xbox + kinect, PC and Ps4 stay in livingroom. My only issue is figuring out where to put the ps4 eye, just like this gen with the ps3 eye. I really hate clutter and I can't seem to escape it.

I have one more HDMI input left on my tv which is where my PS4 will go. As for space I have a PS3 and 360 which are still getting regular play time and a Wii that hasn't been turned on for over a year. Disconnecting the Wii won't really help with space so I'll just leave it plugged in. Will probably end up putting my PS4 on the bottom shelf with the receiver.

Reserve the 2 remaining HDMI ports left of my LCD TV for PS4 and Alienware X51.

Space is not a problem right now,but the HDMI and AC power cable wiring is.

Once the PS4 comes around, the Wii U will be moved up and take a seat right by the TV base, because it's small enough to fit in that position. It's going to be sharing an HDMI cable with the PS3 though, since I don't have any more open ports (TiVo, PS4, PC, PS3/WiiU).

Got two spots for my PS4 next month and Xbox One some time next year, most likely when Halo 5 drops.

Once I phase out my PS3, a Wii U will take its place.

(A little messy at the moment!)

Where's the Dreamcast, man? How you gonna Shenmue and find them Power Stones?

I'm most likely going to switch out my 360 with PS4. I rarely play games on it, the last one I was playing was The Last Remnant.

This is similar to my setup. The industry turn to all black systems is probably the single greatest thing to happen in keeping an entertainment center looking classy. I can't stand colored or white systems if they're going to be a part of my main living room entertainment center.

I got rid of my Wii, PS2, GameCube and DS, and I don't really miss them.

So I think I'll sell the PS3 and Xbox 360 eventually and just have a PS4/Vita.

Just moved into a new house, so as I was setting the entertainment center up I made my sacrifices. I am very lucky to have 5 HDMI ports on my Tv.

Gaming PC
Ps3 Slim
Xbox 360 E
Playstation 4

That pretty much takes care of my living room needs.

Exactly my thoughts.

Yeah, I had a thought about it. My TV stand has several of those shelf-like spaces at the bottom so I can place my PS4 there making my set up symmetrical.

I am also thinking of getting a bigger TV.

Best thing to do is to not even show your hardware but use an IR extender to a room that has all of the units hooked up. But I understand that not everyone has the proper configuration/home layout to be able to do this.

Currently have 3 HDMI slots, used by my 360, PS3 and DVD player/Surround Sound system. My TV cabinet can house 4 such devices, so I moved the PS3 to the bedroom to make space for the X1 and PS4, but will move it back now, as I'm no longer getting a PS4 this year. I'll definitely try plugging my 360/PS3 into the X1's HDMI In too!

Those Ikea shelves with the square cubbies are precisely the right width to fit an Xbox One (couple of millimeters spare each side), but you'd probably (definitely) want to drill vents on the side of the cube you chose to put it in. But it LOOKS cool.

And it makes for a pretty cheap entertainment center. And they have loads of matching accessories.

Hah, this is exactly what I bought recently due to the impending new console. I have the 2x4 one going horizontal and then one 1x4 one going vertical on the left. Terrible photo but you get the idea:

Edit: note the cat bed. ;)

Has anyone started thinking about this yet? Space and HDMI connections will be at a premium due to the lack of backwards compatibility of the new consoles.

Well once I finish Two Souls I'll be trying to sell off both my PS3 and 360 + games. That'll clear some space at least, even if it doesn't make much cash.

My TV only has 2 HDMI ports so this is an issue for me. I was considering an HDMI splitter, but I've no idea if that results in loss of picture quality or not.

Sold my 360. Ps3 slim doesn't take up much room. We got rid of cable so that frees a spot for the ps4. Wii U is plugged into my computer monitors. The media center looks pretty empty right now

OMG so funny this was brought up. I have ps3, 360, PC and a Denon receiver all hooked up to my network. I only have 4 LAN connections.

So when I get the PS4 I have to decommission the online portion of 360 or the Airplay on the receiver.

Combine that with the fact I have no room left in my TV stand so I'm either going to have to stack consoles on top of each other or get a new storage solution.

1st world problems.

Going to finish The Last of Us and give my PS3 away.

I would get rid of my 360 or Wii, but I have about a dozen downloaded games I have yet to play.

It sounds weird but one of things I am really excited about is moving my PS3 into the upstairs living room to replace the Roku box there currently. I love my Roku but the PS3's Netflix and Hulu apps kill the Roku ones. And it will be a great way to play some backlogged ps3 titles well after the PS4 comes out. Also that will give us a blu ray player upstairs as well when we currently don't even have a DVD player hooked up there. So that's my plan.

Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii U stay, Wii gets replaced by PS4.

Unsure what happens when we grab an XbOne next year, will worry about it then.

I've already purchased 2 HDMI switches in the past month. Shit is getting ridiculous. If I purchase a PS4, the Wii might have to go to the retro room sadly. That's not too bad as I have a Wii U.

Fuck a gaming lifestyle is expensive...

Moving PS3 to bedroom to have a bluray player in the bedroom although I rip damn near all my media and stream it to the HTPC in the living room with XBMC. The PS4 will replace the PS3's HDMI spot. I'll keep the 360 in the living room since it's the old model without HDMI and my receiver in the bedroom doesn't have component in.

Our television has only three HDMI slots, and they're all currently in use. The Sky box, Wii U and Xbox 360 are occupying those, the Wii is hooked up to component and the media pc is connected via VGA.. I'm not sure how long the Wii has left, once I transfer everything over to the Wii U then there'll be no more need for it.

We are going to be getting a new tv sometime over the next few months, of a size of 46" likely (up from 32"), so hopefully it'll have more HDMI ports. If not, the PS4 will likely be taking over completely from the 360.

I have no idea how I'm going to set things up. My TV is a dinosaur, a Sony 50" 720p 3LCD projector from 2005. One HDMI (occupied by an HTPC). PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, and Wii U are connected with component cables, though I moved the PS3 to my bedroom onto a gaming monitor alongside my second Xbox.

I'm thinking Xbox One is going to take over the HDMI, seems like a good home for it especially if Xbox goes heavy on the 720p games. Maybe put the HTPC on the Xbox One HDMI-in. But I would like to get my Uverse box on that if the Xbox One TV features are worth anything.

For now PS4 will probably end up on a computer monitor. It seems like it would be easy to move around though, so maybe I can just have an extra power cable waiting for it by my TV.

Eventually I'd like to have most of my stuff on a nice new setup, but that's going to take some planning, and it will probably just have to wait until I upgrade apartments. Definitely would consider one of those cubbyhole setups. I have no interest in unplugging my old systems, if anything I really want to get a lot of my retro stuff out in the open on a permanent basis. I'm absolutely horrible at cable management though. Between my home office area and my TV area I probably have 50+ outlets worth of crap in use already.

I haven't thought about it, I would have room for it when I do get it.

From the left to right of the top shelf is the 360, PS3, and two headphones (the two bulges) under the cover. All I would have to do is move my headphones and put the PS4 in that spot. Unfortunately I have to swap HDMI cables all the time because the ASUS VH236H only has one HDMI port.

Got rid of my 360 and now blasting through my PS3 and Wii U backlog. So went out and got the Expedit Unit. Love it so far. (PS4 will be in empty spot) I'll probably add LED's at a later date.

EDIT: I'm on mobile so sorry if the image is huge.

There's an empty space where my WiiU used to be that will be taken up by PS4. By the time I purchase Xbox One, I'll be ready to phase out the PS3 from my entertainment center.

I replaced my Wii with the Wii U so that one's good since they're almost they almost have the same width.

As for the PS4, I have no clue. I'm not getting one yet since there are no games I want for the system that I couldn't get for my PS3, but I have troubles thinking about whether it's going to go.

Out of room, so I think I'm going to retire the 360. Still need to finish a few games first:

- Lost Odyssey
- Infinite Undiscovery
- Phantasy Star Universe

where is your TV?

Wii U, PC and PS4 will be taking up my 3 HDMI jacks due to their HDMI only nature (Wii U surround sound issue) the PS3 will be moved to component/SPIDF. The 360 is in an Amazon warehouse I think, It payed for my BF4 and premium.

I plan on making room soon. I think it will fit in our center okay. It'll be on the right, so the fans and such are closer to free air flow.

PS3 going to my bedroom where I'll use it for netflix and playing my backlog I still have as well as picking up some PSN games that only work on the PS3. PS4 will become my centerpiece for my entertainment center. I have a 360 that doesn't get used and I'm thinking of giving that to a friend, maybe charging him 20 bucks, who doesn't have a 360 and I've heard him lamenting that fact.

Yeah, I was thinking about this earlier. I'm hampered by a pretty old receiver (no HDMI), so my audio inputs are at a premium. I was fiddling around with the PS3 setup a couple hours ago, and it seems to work well as a pass-through signal through the TV, so that frees up an audio port for the PS4. Still no idea where I'm going to physically put the thing, though.

Any idea what the cooling requirements are? I know the back is a giant output vent, but where are the input vents? I might be able to put it inside my TV stand rather than next to it (sit it on top of the Blu-ray player or something). The TV stand is open on the front, so if it's pulling air from that direction, I'd be okay putting it down there.
