It's not Dark Souls III which looks like BloodBorne... It's Bloodborne which looked like Dark Souls, in fact :P

BTW, this game should not be announced so early... I'm fond of Souls games, but look at this:

2009 Demon's Souls
2011 Dark Souls
2012 Dark Souls DLC
2014 Dark Souls II
2014 Dark Souls II DLC
2015 Dark Souls II PS4/One
2015 BloodBorne
2015 BloodBorne DLC
2016 Dark Souls III

I'm starting to be tired of these games... From, please, for Bloodborne II or Dark Souls III, please, release it in 3-4 years.

Dont play them at release then?
Ive loved every game especially miyazakis soulsborne stuff and DS3 continue to look great. Heck not buying at release means you can get them cheaper. Its a win win.

Lmao at the rebranding of the hollow health loss as a "1.4% boost while [human]"

Can't wait.

Yeah but "hype" is important. With a yearly release, I can't be hyped enough. Now it's like "Yeah, cool, a new Souls". When Dark Souls II was announced I was like "OMFG !!! Best news of the year!"

I feel the same way - still haven't bought Dark Souls II DLC and Bloodborne, but I will. Just forget about the hype and go at your own pace. Enjoy being bathed in good games.

I'm happy as someone without a ps4 it's been about 2 years since the last installment in one of my favorite franchises. (at ds3 release)

Just skip it then. I'm not tired, so the more souls, the better for me.

Also, I don't know why you count DLC or rereleases like new games.

I'm very happy that the screenshots are released at 4k, that should bode well for resolution support.

It looks great, though I don't think the difference to (modded) DS2 is massive:
I hate it when people post modded (colour corrected) screens of DS2 and act like it wasn't the most downgraded game of 2014. Nice screenshots, but the game looks like ass in %50 of the areas.

I don't see the problem here with the actual releases. Bloodborne isn't a Soul game either.

Everything looks good but where are the shadows? Looks like nothing is casting shadows in this world. Not even the basic dark blobs under the models. Makes it look like some models are levitating, it really bothers me.

I'm sure it will look fantastic on your HDTV.

Looks bloodborneish! I'm excited as always.

So the real list would be:

2009 Demon's Souls
2011 Dark Souls
2014 Dark Souls 2
2015 Bloodborne
2016 Dark Souls 3

A yearly trend for new games is clearly present from Dark Souls 2 onwards. But if they manage to keep up the quality, I can't complain at all!

Also, I get the feeling that there will be a longer break after Dark Souls 3.

Because, when a DLC is released 6 months after the main game released, I'm back to "a new Souls experience". Don't you?

isn't Bloodborne just a retooled Souls game? I don't understand people talking about Souls 3 looking like it when Bloodborne is clearly Souls inspired in the first place.

.

It's a souls game in the same way Dragon Quest heroes is a musou game.

still obviously different IPs.

I don't get why it's supposed to be wrong to mention Bloodborne in Dark Souls III threads? Even if it is a separate IP, it is still the latest entry in the series of FROM games that share similar gameplay.

For me, after being a bit disappointed with DS2 after BB, I am very very happy that DS3 screenshots and videos remind me of BB. Obviously, this is coming from someone who has not played DmS or DS1 (something I would like to fix, but don't have a platform to play them on).

What I'm trying to say, is that probably majority of the people mentioning Bloodborne are excited to get their hands on more FROM goodness after loving Bloodborne.

How did you determine the engine being used? Did Bloodborne use the same engine too?

Just how the lighting hits the textures I guess. Dark Souls 2 had very soft lighting as it hit surfaces while Bloodborne took more to Dark Souls' emphasis on atmospheric ambience and had more simple dynamic lighting.

People that shout Bloodborne at every screen of DS3 are people that have discovered Souls games through Bloodborne and simply dont know better.

And quite frankly, I'm ok with that. Whatever it takes for this series to actually get the spotlight they deserve.

Its wrong because Bloodborne was before heavily inspired by the Souls games and if seeing DS3 makes you think of Bloodborne is because you simply don't have enough insight on the series to actually know any better, and thus we let you know.

This is exactly the use case that we're seeing here, most people are in your position and that's why we have all this Bloodborne references.

I haven't been disappointed by a single Souls game. Even DS2, which is divisive here, was amazing to me (and actually might be among my favorites).

FROM is four for four with this series (DeS, DS1, DS2, Bloodborne). I'm confident DS3 will deliver, as well.

I agree, every souls game have been top tier games for me. Day 1 for all of them

Come on. Everyone knows Bloodborne was heavily inspired by Souls. That doesn't mean I am wrong in seeing similarities with Bloodborne in Souls 3 screenshots.

I'm starting to think this is just long time Souls fans being salty because more people are finding the series and their old obscure favorite is now mainstream.

Wonderful!

Seeing the touchpad buttons int he pics makes me wish there was native support for the DS4 in the PC version. The quick selection item menu is so good.

If they at least give us the option to map it somewhere, I suppose we could use the home button in the DS3, since there's no XMB to pop up when you press it.

I thought he felt out of place tbh.

It was kind of the point, he was from another time.

Hopefully not being massive means I can still hope to play it at 60fps on my current PC!

Beautiful screens. Really excited to actually play it.

Same. Also people saying Bloodborne is different because its horror when me and a friend (who is a big horror nut) always called Dark Souls horror :/

Parts of Dark Souls and Demons Souls were a bit horror-themed with certain enemies and areas. The Tower of Latria in Demon's Souls especially is a good example of this.

But honestly, I don't know how you could not gather that Bloodborne is significantly more gothic and horror-themed than the other games across the board: more bloody and grotesque, the focus on werewolves and werewolf hunters, enemies that are more like eldritch abominations inspired by Lovecraft, the Gothic and Victorian architecture, etc. And the plot and character backstories are far more creepy and morbid.

It has more to do with the aesthetics. Never got any dark souls vibe from looking at bloodborne but ds3 looks to have a bit of bloodborne in it and I've played ds1 and DS2. Hardly surprising since ds3 uses bloodborne 's engine iirc.
