New Dark Souls Screenshots [Update: More Screenshots]

I think I've done this but I can't seem to find anything further on the website after linking my Facebook account.

After you have linked to your Facebook, there should be a soul meter of some sorts at the top. When you highlight the top of a screen a menu drops down. On the left side under your Facebook crap is a box for redeeming a code. Insert Code.

You can redeeem it on PTD.com when you have linked your facebook account to the site.

Anons on 4chan are wondering what spell you used as Pyromancer when you tried attacking the wyvern.

Did you manage to do any damage to it?

Cool, linked on the first page of /V/ haha!

It seems like they figured out it was the perspire spell. I didn't do any damage to him. I was focusing more on how to approach him, and didn't even try attacking.

We've seen it flying around in trailers so I'd say it's probable you can kill it elsewhere.

The guys there said it was possible to kill. The Pyromancer seemed equipped for it, with the perspire spell.

Maybe it was something they threw in for a co-op fight too. I never got to try the co-op.

I forgot to mention that when playing the demo, there were a few times where I went to take a potion, being at really low health, and an enemy hit me all the way down to no health. But rather than die, the health bar went to nothing, then filled again when the potion kicked in.

Maybe it was a bug of the demo, maybe it was a change in timing, and the way that potions work. It also seemed that sometimes when using a heal spell, or potion, when the life was being added, any hits taken were not counted.

All we can do is hope it's rubbed out in the final version.

I wanted to ask you a question: I sometimes notice the game pausing in your videos, as if maybe it's loading or something. Did you notice any pausing/juttering or was it just the video?

I noticed that in playback too. It's a problem with the recording, the game was smooth. Maybe a bit choppy the same way DS gets sometimes.

I did see one report from that the 360 version will be heavily compressed to fit on one disc, just found it here, http://www.justpushstart.com/2011/0...360-version-heavily-compressed-onto-one-disc/

Dont think ive seen it elsewhere mentioned and how much difference is I'm not sure maybe if they are running both version on the floor someone could find out.

Dark Souls will be heavily compressed? Sounds like BS to me...the game (if Demon's Souls is any indication) will probably have 2-3 FMV's, mostly ambient sounds and not so many dialogue - anyone know how many gigabytes Demon's Souls used in the blu-ray? I bet it hardly used the blu-ray's space.

Also about the game using a PhyreEngine based engine, EGO engine from Codemasters (DiRT, Operation Flashpoint games e.t.c.) is based on PhyreEngine IIRC and it's running very good on the 360 so there is still hope for a great port I guess.

Jealous of all you GAF'rs that played. Damn you! Only kidding I just can't wait for that early discussion of the game when it comes out. Hope more of GAF gives this one a shake.

Did anyone try different classes?

The US version I dumped is only about 6GB.

Thanks for clarifying.

So unless Dark Souls is heavy on FMV's or the game has a ton of dialogue which I doubt I still think all this heavily compressed talk is complete BS.

Number of times Dark Souls was mentioned on the e3 podcasts I've listened to: 0. Bomba.

Waiting for Roleplayer's Realm.

Where do we get a code. I finished the glyph wall and only got a puzzle piece.

This was the main problem with me on the boss battles and some of the harder enemies. The most frustrating part of the first level for me was when you get near the end of the bridge and there's this huge guy with a shield blocking the door as well as some low level guards, and then there's also guys on top of the castle thing shooting arrows down at you. You can't go backwards because the fire breathing dragon will roast you and you can't go forward because you'll get owned by the shield guys. Your only option is to basically try to run past them, but if you do choose to fight them you have this like incredibly tiny space to maneuver around so you don't get hit by them and don't get killed by the fire. It feels so unfair at that moment. I'm talking about this part here:

The guy in that video had this mechanical bow shooter thing which makes it way easier but I didn't I only had a sword and shield so I had to get up close and personal with them. It's absolutely infuriating to get all the way to this point, and then you mess up ONCE with one of these stupid guys and they kill you and you have to do the ENTIIIIRE thing all over again. It drove me mad. I can't even begin to imagine what the real boss fights are like because I can't stand having to 'figure out' how to beat a boss either when they give you no clues or hints, they just expect you to know somehow by trial and error. I don't know if Demons Souls does that but I'd bet it does.
OMG that part. I can't remember how many times I died at that part until I decided to grind in 4-1 and copy everything from that youtube video (crossbow, position, etc). This game just have certain parts that feel more like retarded game design instead of being "tricky".

The is some Tempa T Next Hype shit. Most anticipated game this year. Saying a lot with an Uncharted release in the same period, too.

it doesn't need to be mentioned anywhere. all the people that want to get it already know about it, pretty much.

i would be quite surprised if the game doesn't sell more than Demon's Souls, even without any significant marketing.

A month before release they really need to kick the
marketing into overdrive.

Everything so far has been aimed at fans of demon souls.

A few really well cut trailers focused heavily on action and put up onto xbox live
would be a really good idea. Most 360 gamers wouls not have Dark Souls on their radar.

I LOVE the music. The tracks that are playing in the stream are already better that Demon's Souls OST (which was pretty forgettable for me)

I really liked the style of Demon's Souls OST and the tracks for this one sounds absolutely sick so far.

I agree. The more new players they attract the more noobs there will be for us veterans to slay. :)

Am I the only one that wishes that they'd incorporate the Demon/Dark Souls combat system into an open world game like Oblivion/Skyrim?

It's like combining the absolute best of east and west design philosophies.

Major attention to detail with the minutiae of game mechanics and a sweeping sand box simulation world to play with it in.

Dunno if it's been posted but Gametrailers put a video of the Witch-class where he uses Soul Arrow. Looks amazing as usual:

http://www.gametrailers.com/video/e3-2011-dark-souls/716090

Edit: note how he starts of with 19 Soul Arrows, which might be the soft cap for the spell. Also we get to see a new spell called Magic Shield with 3 usages.

Magic Shield is believed to reduce stamina reduction from blocking or, more likely, improve your shield's magic damage reduction.

I hope they have made the statistics more clear, them bloody stupid rune icons from Demon Souls are a pain.

I can't remember where I read it, but one of the early previews for the game or maybe the Play Magazine article mentioned that they'd made it a lot easier to understand. I wish I could remember specifics or even where I read it.

Thats good news, I still remember having the manual in hand every time I increased my soul level or got a new weapon, using it as a translation book.

How can you play with a reversed camera oracrest? I can only tolerate that in a few games with flight controls. I guess you play most games with reversed camera?

I have two more videos to upload. This one is some other guy that was playing, He is a black phantom, and there is a second BP in the hosts world as well.

This was the only time I saw two BP's on the show floor.

Dark Souls E3 demo - 2 BP invaders

edit: last one, nothing special, just getting gored by the boar some more as the knight.

Dark Souls E3 demo - Knight, first time playing demo

Just in case any late comers that missed the earlier videos,

Oracrest's Full Dark Souls E3 demo playlist

The enemies don't attack the black phantoms now, or is some glitch or because is a beta version?

This is quite honestly, the only game I give a damn about at the moment. In fact it's the only game at E3 I've checked out so far.

I agree as well but I worry that people will think of this as some crazy multiplayer game. For me that astuff is extra but things I've heard people saying lately makes me wonder...however this is a game that deserves great success so whatever sells it.

There will be no "origin" selection for the main character, however the demo presented the following classes: Soldier, Knight, Witch, Pyromancer, Solitaire of Astors, Black Knight.
Interesting. If that turns out to be the case in the final game, good. I prefer a system where all new characters start at 0 and can be built into whatever class the player wishes.

You know, after I found out that you could simply kill the dragon from the first tower, the section was a breeze.

That's the motto all our beloved game companies used to have :(

But basing off of marketing data is more comforting nowadays, even if the results are more dangerously expensive to implement and no more successful than the previous methodology. Ain't it grand?
