I really wanted to buy the 360 version just in case it has better graphics/online features but i'm not too sure now..
Why not sure now? At worst the 360 version might have slightly worse gfx. My hunch is it'll have better textures, perform better and better AA since 2xAA is always free on the 360.

Seriously though, just get the version you really want.

I remember reading at some point that there will be region free online play with this game.

But will that really be true for Japan? The Japanese version has a different publisher.. so will there be separate servers for Japan and everyone else?

I'm not sure how much they have clarified that. Hopefully it will be completely region free.

Who is publishing the Japanese version, From Software themselves?

Haven't the developers already said the game will be heavily compressed on 360? PS3 does seem to be the one to go for, uncompressed sound, etc.
As far as I know, PS3 games having uncompressed sound is a myth. A lot of people say that MGS4 has uncompressed sound, and that simply isn't true. While sound is typically higher quality in the PS3 versions of games, that doesn't mean it's uncompressed.

uh, lpcm is uncompressed.

Ive been staying far away from Dark Souls threads because its day 0 purchase but my question is has there been in information regarding game length? Demon Souls was a fantastic game but once you figured out the combat the game was really very short game. Now having experience with the type of game Dark souls is going to be I'm worried it might be short like demon souls.

I believe From Software has stated it would be at least twice as long as Demon's Souls, in addition to having a far greater number of items, spells, and enemies.

I usually play my games on the 360, but after surviving the first game, I have a hard time imagining how they would map the controller to the 360. I just can't see it feeling as good as the ps3.

From Software has said there will be about twice as much content in DaS than Demon's Souls has. So probably it should be about twice as long, and it's also supposed to be more difficult.

The biggest downside I can think of is the crummy, distant d-pad. The other stuff, like the triggers, face buttons, and analog stick placement are all pretty subjective though.

Are they using the same engine as Demon's Souls? Would go a long way to deciding whether this statement is likely or not.

Most likely, yeah. I'm guessing it'll be the standard split, where the 360 gets crisper textures and some AA, and the PS3 gets nicer sound, lighting, and shader effects.

Not sure if these were posted:

Some have a familiar look to the ones that are already out.

The lead platform is PS3.

You're right. I was speaking in general terms about what are generally pretty subtle differences, and I doubt we'll see much of a difference at all.

So excited, of course. Loved Demon's Souls.

Quick question though. Is there an option to turn off the HUD in Dark Souls? Has that been commented on yet?

I didn't mind the size of it all that much in DS, just curious.

Only 6 people completed the Dark Souls E3 demo?

I didn't need to ask Nobuaki about the difficulty of the game. He proudly offered up this bit of information: The developers had designed this particular demo specifically for E3. It was possible to complete, but they didn't think anyone would be able to finish it. Six people made it through the demo. The developers are taking this personally, and are working to make the final retail release even more difficult. So six people screwed it up for the rest of us. Thanks, whoever you are.

You're welcome.

This is the case. Ps3 version will no doubt be the better.

Thank you for making the game even more awesome.

I bet more people beat it, there was a 4 stand kiosk in the other hall with nobody really watching it. They also seemed to be moving people through faster than you would need to finish it (like my one vid where I had to ask the guy if I could keep going to the boss when he told me my time was up.)

Regardless, if you weren't familiar with DS already, it would have been hard to get through. I do hope I had a hand in it being made harder though! For I fight on your behalf...

Highly doubt it's gonna be "heavily compressed" considering that there's barely any FMVs or dialogue. Demon's Souls took up less than 6 GB on disc. Dealbreaker for me is whether or not 360 version will have party chat. I know there's no voice chat online, so they may have disabled party chat as well.

I have a feeling that I might still spring for both versions, since a lot more of my friends have 360's than PS3's, and I still want to do co-op with them.

I am curious to see what avatar Dark Souls stuff there might be for xbox also, hopefully they do content like that. If I ever bought avatar costumes, it would be for this...

Bound to be a full suit of armour. Hopefully a Black Knight version. :D

I will be getting the 360 version and I would be honoured to join you in the fight against the demons. Or possibly join you in running away from big monsters.

I hope it is better on 360 just to see some of you people freak out.

I'll be copping the triple version regardless. Dual shock is the way I deal with demons.

Maybe it's a dumb question, but I never figured out how to play with specific friends or what have you in Demon Souls, co-op or otherwise. Is it different in Dark Souls or am I mistaken?

If they utilize PS3 strengths you will. Demon Souls look amazing if rough in some areas but overall the presentation was top notch. The engine can only get better.
Being a direct port it is a plus for the 360 instead of the other way around though.

I would love to see some 360 footage and screens sooner than later. If they can get it on par with the PS3 version, everyone will be happy.

Looks really cool. I really need to start playing Demon's Souls; I've had it for like 2 months and it's been collecting dust. Heard so many good things, too.

*The sound of a thousand Demon's Souls fans stomping feet can be heard*

"Every time you use it to replenish your life, the enemies respawn and get stronger"

Haha! Tendency is back bitches! I hope it causes changes to the physical world, I'm worried about variety on multiple play throughs.

"You can also strengthen the bonfire, but this will cost you some of your humanity. Why do you want a stronger bonfire? Who cares about humanity?"

Humanity points? So this is like Character tendency I guess? Wonder if it gives multiple upgrade paths or something?

"Nobuaki then explained that in Dark Souls you could invite thee allies into your game. This would prevent a black phantom from invading. He mentioned that this was in effect only for the E3 demo, but the developers may leave that mechanic in as a co-op feature. "

People better not be able to shut out black phantoms with more allies. I like that there is a risk / reward for going online.

probably pandering to ps3 base. to put things into perspective demon's soul was only 5.8GB which fits on dvd quite easily.

compression actually isnt always a bad thing, most are lossless or close to it. there was a valve doc which was explained that compressed assets will load faster from physical media (smaller data size), then use the extra computational cycles to decompress assets.

loading large files off disc vs loading compressed files then decompressing (ends up being quicker if done proper)

I love this so much.

The other possibility is that the pandering will actually amount to something and the PS3 version will get some nice uncompressed audio this time around. Demon's Souls already had great sound, so it'd be a nice touch.

The 360 disk space is currently 6.8gb. The rumor of the size upping another gig of free space because the security partition has been improved means they got 7.8gb now for the game. Since Demons Souls takes 5.8gbs, Im not too concerned.

I got relatively far in the demo, I think. At least, I beat the Giant Boar and a huge knight wielding a two-handed sword. But then I had to go elsewhere.

I talked about it a bit in the RolePlayers' Realm E3 wrap-up (someone said earlier they're waiting for that episode).

Basically, Dark Souls feels exactly like Demon's Souls, down to the hilarious ragdoll physics. But the bonfire checkpoints really help with some of the frustration of getting crushed every time you round a corner.

I'm getting both versions, perhaps not both day 1, but both.

I can't wait to try the 360 version in a Party! Contrary to what people might say about cross-game chat in a game like this, I think it would work wonderfully.

Sure chatting might take you out of it a little every now and then, but I can't see it being any more annoying than having to refer to the internet for help.

Dying together will be hilarious. Watch as one angry Boar one-shots 4 people. :D

Can't devs disable party chat?

I only hope that the PS3 version will NOT be a downgraded port of the 360 version, i'm not talking about the videos or audio, i talk about the textures and overall performance which seem to be better in 360 for most mutiplatform games released for in consoles

This is From Software we're talking about. They're releasing the game as a PS3 exclusive in Japan and its predecessor, Demon's Souls, was a PS3 exclusive worldwide.

You need not worry about the PS3 version.

Too bad I'm not getting release date shipping from Amazon. Che.

Did as well this past week. Would be nice to get some media up on the XBL marketplace for this one. Hate games with no nothing on the MP.
