I don't think it was ever a steelbook, just a heavier box that contained all the special edition stuff and a standard copy of the game.

I don't remember it being a steelbook as well...

I'm anxious for my import copy to arrive. I'm curious of the playability, seems like it won't be too intensive...The days are getting close folks!

I'm going to either put up the |OT| a week before JPN release, or the week of. That way I have a chance to play it and really get some good information. I'll take the best suggested OT title and run with it though!

I read something about the Collector's Edition no longer having a Steelbook. Is this true? I checked out Amazon's product page, and it no longer lists anything special about the Collector's Edition. Even the cover is now of the standard edition.

Would kind of suck if true, but how can you really sweat it either way? As they are not charging any extra for what we are getting.

Oh wait. You're right. I'm mixing up my Collector's Editions. But the CE doesn't list anything anymore. Wasn't there a soundtrack, guide, and an outer slip with far superior boxart?

Not sure about the slip cover, but it has an artbook, making-of DVD, copy of the soundtrack, and a download code for a full-game PDF guide, which is a downgrade of sorts from the physical partial guide we had before.

I'd like a collector's edition, even if I had to pay a premium. I'm not going to argue that the core game isn't worth $60 because that's silly. It does seem kind of strange to announce a delicious CE package, then shave away the features of the CE as it gets closer and closer to launch.

Maybe it's just a mistake right now, then. I remember reading about the guide going from physical to digital a while back. I just hope nothing else has complicated the production of the CE.

That's Namco Bandai for ya.

WTF? Can anyone actually confirm the Collector's Edition is still coming with all the things it said it was going to come with?
CE contents haven't changed, it's just not listed on its own because it's only available as a free upgrade for pre-ordering, at least in the US.

The JP/import comes out on Sept 22 and will likely ship on the 23rd. It used to be the 15th :/

I pre-ordered at play-asia.com
Yeah, I can wait a little over a week for the US version. If it was the same price then I would consider it.

Physical Art book might not happen according to this: but idk if this confirms it or not so....

At Gamescom, I had the opportunity to discuss the CE with the EU Namco team, who were more than happy to spell out EXACTLY how it's going to work.

The reason for the confusion is that the EU and US are getting slightly different things.

The US Collectors Edition consists of a metal case, with digital collectables, possibly a physical soundtrack and/or artbook. Because of the size of the metal case, the strategy guide has to be digital too.

The EU Collectors Edition is a folding cardboard-ey thing, you know what I mean. However, it comes with a physical making-of/behind the scenes thing, a physical art book, a physical soundtrack and a code for a digital strategy guide, because it made no sense to make two different guides for two different regions (looking at you, Atlus).

I will double check and update to see if the US one has any physical collectables, it's possible it doesn't.
Also worth noting is the fact that the EU version comes with codes for the digital versions of the art book/soundtrack etc as well as the physical ones.

Just watched the Dukes Archives level on gametrailers and it looks like you will be able to jump.

Not according to Ilkar (the Demon's Souls wiki guy):

Ilkar said:
For the millionth time, you can't jump. YOU CANNOT JUMP. JUMPING IS IMPOSSIBLE. THERE IS NOT A JUMP BUTTON. Seriously, all I get here, on the Wiki and on the other DkS sites I've been made to contribute to is "OMG I CAN HAS JUMP NAO?" It's like a sprinting attack. It's not something that's going to be viable for navigating the environment to a significant degree.

I would like to see the attack on a flat surface to see how much air the player can get.

We had nothing even close that that in DS. I wonder how many glitches and exploits people are going to be able to find with that move?

Yeah try to find that webpage because it sure looks like there is a way to jump whether it is attached to a sprinting move or some rolling move.

read it here:

http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/rpg/dark-souls/show_msgs.php?pid=606312&topic_id=m-1-59672926

Here is the quote.. covered it for minor spoilers for people who wants to know nothing..

New/altered combat mechanics
-Players can now perform a running jump by pressing the X button while sprinting and do a strong leaping attack by pressing forward+R2
-Forward+R1 push is replaced by a kick for some weapons
-Both players and enemies can attack and be attacked while climbing ladders; players can be knocked off of ladders by repeat attacks

-More degrees of weight encumbrance for rolling; there’s now a roll below fast speed but above “limply thrown brick” speed
-Rolls have less invulnerability
-Player can be hit while recovering from being knocked down

-Heavy armor allows its wearer to not flinch when hit by weaker attacks
-Headshots with arrows/bolts do critical damage
-Crossbows can be reloaded while moving
-Multiple helpings of Est can be drunk at once by repeatedly pressing square, adding to the animation instead of restarting it

Awesome!

-Rolls have less invulnerability
Don't know if I like this... they had
6 frames of invulnerability in Demon's Souls when you were below 50% weight.
I really thought it was perfect before :/

It was kind of like an exploit before because people could avoid getting hit as long as it was timed right even if it looked like they should have taken the hit.

They just want to make the game even harder which is also why it looks like magic is limited.

I'm pretty sure the
animation didn't restart in Demon's Souls?
.

Maybe you can aim crossbows if you're in the two-handed stance. I can't imagine a lock on system really working and it could be balanced by them having much less range.

All of the above spoilered lists are improvements to the combat engine. Rolling through god's wrath, while fun, doesn't really make sense.

So the EU version is the superior one? :(

If I read what you bolded correctly, then the US version gets a metal case, the digital OST/art book/guide, and possibly a physical OST and/or artbook.

The EU version, on the other hand, gets a cardboard slip cover, a "physical making-of/behind the scenes thing", physical art book and OST, and the digital guide (as well as the digital versions of the physical contents).

This really makes me want to change my preorder and try to get the EU version instead.

I'm kind of behind on all the info, so mind if you expand on this?
I was looking forward to the magic more than anything, as well as hoping for a lot more spells. :(

Well from the demo videos I have seen it appears that there is no MP bar. You have a set number of spells. So far the only way I know to replenish them is through the bonfires.

If you think about it though the set number could still equal out the same in MP. Also, if there is no MP bar then there most likely will not be any ring the regenerates MP......since the bonfires generally do that.

Also, there is no magic stat to build but there is an intelligence stat so your amount of magic can go up apparently.
