New Dawn of War II: Retribution race revealed(probably)

If you add Dawn of War II: Retribution to your wishlist on Steam, the splash picture changes from an Orc into an female inquisitor:

So I guess that pretty much confirms the Inquisition as the new race.

Oh, and there were some updates on the relic blog (usually every thursday) with reveals about some new multiplayer units, like the Space Marine Land Raider:

As well as more info on the Eldar, Tyranid and Space Marine campaign heroes:

Is the Inquisition big enough to be a whole race? I am no Lore expert, but aren't they practicly the special forces of the Imperium of Men?

I think they are independant

You might be right, but I don't know that much about the backstory either.

There's also some talk they might be combined with the Imperial Guard.

They're probably big enough since they have their own Space Marines, normal infantry, etc.

I mean, they have their own army in Warhammer 40k, so they have enough to units to do so. Grey knights, terminators and they drawn on imperial guard units too.

The Inquisition is plenty. It can incorporate Imperial Guard elements, cool Inquisitorial retinues, requisition the Grey Knights, Sisters of Battle or Deathwatch (I think that is there name). They should be excellent.

the graphics whore inside me is so happy.
can't wait for this game, i really enjoyed dow1, down 2 and the amazing chaos rising.

see blizzard, sc2 sp should look more like this.

Indeed, in fact lumping the Inquisition in as one faction, I'd imagine they'd have far to many units to incorporate into the game, considering it's really 3 separate forces.

Wow, that is awesome, glad to see more variety.

And yes, Insiquistion can mount their own strike force if needed, it´s not really their style, Space Marines are more suited for a full fledged war, but given the scale of battles from DoW II, it's perfectly apt. They created a faction with the Adepta Sororitas in Soulstorm after all. I think most of the Adeptas could be made a faction for themselves for this game.

Hopefully we will able to to take control of one of the most awesome heavy units ever, do you think a Dreadnought is cool? Think again:

If there is justice, this will be there...

Fuck yes. Inquisition is the best part of the Imperium. They're so badass, and their ability to essentially take over any operation rocks.

BUT, I still just want to know how the GFWL/Steamworks split will work more than anything else.

Looks like DOW2 to me? Anyway, I'll be there day 1 most likely.
yup, for some reason i forgot how down of war 2 look like (i've been playing sc2 since release).
anyway, good job by relic.

aren't inquisitors immensly overpowered?
Fromthe days I played Inquisitor I remeber lore where one Inquisitor turned the tides of huge battles.

They'll just balance it so they aren't overpowered, at least in multiplayer.

Gameplay > Lore.

Almost certainly like this: Retribution will be standalone and only use Steamworks so you won't be able to play against DoW2 / Chaos Rising players.

So everyone will just move over to Retribution.

Yeah I don't have much love for the new races (Tau/Necron), Tau are silly manga robots and Necros are bland Terminator wannabes. The inquisition is pretty cool actually. DO they have the old assassins?

depends on the inquisitor

some are low level psyker who at most can read your mind other are "wtf is he doing, omg all my friends just melted!" I don't think all are psykers anyway (realy not sure about this one)

besides the eldar are already in the game and your average farseer is much more powerfull than your average inquisitor

For the scale of the DoW games, they are more than big enough. They have their own fleets of warships, and much of their forces are simply imperial guard units mixed in with lot of specialist troops.

The inquisition is also 3 different branches each with it's own unique forces. Daemon Hunters, Witch Hunters, and the Xenos Hunters.

I played through Dow2 and Chaos Rising, but I have no idea about WH40k lore. What's the best place to start? I heard it's pretty interesting.

I'd get Eisenhorn to prepare you for this expansion. :D

And until it gets shipped, the wiki.

The beginning to read up on is best to look up the history of the Emperor of Man and the Horus Heresy. To me those are the most important events and pretty much the start of the 40k universe. Most of it you can find online on wikis and such. From then on, research the various races and such pasts up to recent to get up to speed. I wouldn't really recommend jumping straight into one of the books without knowing the basic universe background.

If you like to read you should start with the Horus Heresy book series because it is the major event of the human race in the Warhammer 40k universe. After that you could read through the story of the races. I guess there is a Warhammer 40k wiki in the WWW.

Really its more about the fact that the Inquisitor is a law unto him or her self. Pretty much can go anywhere and do anything as long as it ends up getting some heretics killed.

Wow. I was gonna recommend the realms of chaos books but apparently they are 'collectibles' now. Hope I can stay the 'kill' order I gave to my mom for my old stuff.

Not all are psykers, no.
In fact from what I remeber there are a lot of different organisations within the inquisition.
Some use magic and mental abilities and even use alien technology or demons to further the cause of mankind. They believe you have to fight fire with fire. On the other end of the spectrum there are those that condemn all esoteric arts and alien weoponry. They feel the slightest crack will be enough for chaos to take root. They use Horus as an example.

In the Inquisitor rulebook there are several stories about these Inquisitors and their warband and how they singlehandedly whiped out entire regiments...

(it's all fiction of course, it can be adapted for teh game however they want)

Are inquisitor characters used in the table top version? And how do they compare to other special units (farseers, phoenix lords, champions of chaos etc...)
