New Dead Space 3 screenshots [Up2: New, non-altered screenshots and more previews]

The main thing that worries me at this point is the universal ammo. One of my favorite aspects of the DS games' combat was the weapon/ammo management. Universal ammo will just turn it into "what way do I want to dismember necromorphs this time?".

So if this game doesn't sell well is the company going to blame the customers?

It will say its because Dead Space should've been a shooter since the beginning and the 'scary' stigma attached to DS1/2 ruined the sales potential (not publicly of course but amongst themselves if they haven't already). So they'll ditch the series and make a new shooter IP to spite fans of scary games and attempt to validate their own hubris, it will bomb, they close multiple studios to save money people lose their jobs and they pretend the entire saga never happened.

Doesn't look as awesome as the first two. But day 1 still. Gotta continue Isaacs story! No co-opportunity though. That shift ruins immersion for games like this.

I can't believe how brown and ugly it looks. Well I guess I can considering what EA is doing to it, but it's just so terrible looking.

Sounds to me like the level design will be similar to Bioshock. Mainquest to get through the area, a couple sides so you're sure to find that couple who always dies in the bed together spooning each other.

Could be good but I think now it's time to stop talking about the game.

I honestly think the game will be fine. It's not like they can put out a trailer of him walking around and solving puzzles.

Now the enemies? No helmet? Brown? I don't know what's up with that.

That enemy looks so stupid. Boring ass skeleton dudes?

Well, I hope that the exploration is worth it - I'm getting a Doom 3 vibe here. Damn, I really hope this is good :/

I'm certain there's something wrong with these screens. It almost looks like Windows Safe Mode in 256 colors except all brown. Whichever PR guy/dev uploaded them messed up. There's something technically wrong with them, whether it's the gamma or something else. These are the worst screens from a major AAA game I've ever seen, no hyperbole.

Look at these two:

There's clearly something technically wrong with them or the way they were captured. They look like they're from an old DOS game with 256 colors. Someone definitely messed up.

It's weird. If it weren't for the glowy bits on the armor and guns I wouldn't even be able to tell this is a Dead Space game. The armor lacks the cool style of previous games, the enemies look completely different, it doesn't have that weird gothic architecture look to the setting and machinery. It just looks completely bland and not atmospheric at all, even without brown filter.

The exploration stuff sounds potentially interesting.

I swear that the only positive stuff they've shown of this game has been the single player video that GameTrailers put out.

The arctic setting is cool for a survival horror game... anybody see John Carpenter's The Thing? I'm a little concerned about the openness of the game world, because I get bored with Sandbox games and don't ever finish them. Hopefully they keep a focused narrative throughout.

I'm not as creeped out by these new skeletal enemies as I was by the original necros, but I'll give Visceral the benefit of the doubt on this one. The first two games kicked ass and I'm sure this one will be good too.

so is Dead space 3 taking place in a fantasy realm?

I fully expect giant minotaurs and dragons to show up if they're going to come up as something as boring as living skeletons.

Dead Space in 16 bit? Nasty looking, but its obvious that this is just a bad capture and that is not how the game really looks. Only concern is the generic appearance of the enemies, but I guess they figured they have enough freaky looking stuff thrown in.

Still hyped as fuck for this.

I echo this sentiment, without the fuck part. It's different, and that gives me pause, though I think it'll be worth a shot to play it co-op with my bro-in-law. Want to see it in motion before passing judgment on the stills too.

I really don't know how I feel about this game. I loved the first two to pieces, but this seems like such a big misstep. I'll give it a chance, but I'm extremely skeptical.

Why is everyone complaining about the graphics and not the fact that the dude's wearing a friggen coat on top of a suit that's supposed to be purposed for the sole reason of going into extra-planetary environments? About the lack of inspiration on those skeletons?

:/

It does look better then what they have shown so far imo. Im still not sold on it though, not by a longshot. Its looking like it will suffer the curse of the threequel like many other franchises from this gen.

I'd say something positive but I don't want to interrupt the usual bitching that encompasses every DS3 thread even though Visceral has delivered two outstanding games.

I'm trying to stay positive based on how much I loved DS1 and DS2, but I can't deny that so far everything they've showed of DS3 hasn't excited me at all.

I can chalk up the coat to artistic license. Also, part of it like around the collar would still be useful for when he doesn't have the helmet on. You wouldn't want to touch the freezing cold metal suit with your skin. Additionally, I'd assume that's a suit he gets on the planet, not one made specifically for going around in space.

The 'skeletons' are malnourished humans who've gone crazy from eating necromorphs. I don't see a problem. They're not the only enemy in the game, just the enemy these screenshots are unveiling.

The exploration stuff sounds good. I'm a total sucker for exploring every inch of games like this, so I like to hear they're putting in entire optional areas.

That exploration stuff sounds REALLY good. Like, complete inversion of what RE5 did to fit in co-op (Let's just make the game way more linear and easily divisible into chapters!), so if this is executed well I may actually pay attention to it afterall.

*Sigh*, and now we have undead skeletons. We can't even have cool designs for the enemies like the Necromorphs.

I hope this bombs hard. Shame on you Visceral, nothing on this game looks appealing on the very least.

I can't breathe hahaha.
