New DriveClub gameplay videos (IGN)

I know there is an answer to what makes this game unique, but I'm not sure that answer is compelling.

That footage makes me not even want to try the PS+ demo.

Not that it should matter, but I don't understand everyone's reactions to these videos. It doesn't look impressive to my eyes at all.

Wow.

Wooooooow. That was insanely boring, and honestly, not that pretty.

These comments honestly confuse me. How you can be a fan of racing games and not be blown away, I don't know. I've never seen lighting like that on the cars, and the car reflecting in other cars.

I guess if you aren't into racing games it might not look that interesting, but then I'm not sure why you'd be in here I the first place.

The gameplay and handling are my biggest worries, but rather than assume it is boring, I'll keep my fingers crossed until I hear some decent impressions and get to try it myself.

Rewatching the vids, with sound this time, I'm not that impressed by the sounds of the cars. Oh well, can't have everything I guess.

I'm not sure why the Zonda R seems to have sound deadening when you're in the cockpit. As far as I know it doesn't have any sound deadener (or if it does it's not much) because it'd just add unnecessary weight to the car. It's supposed to be so loud that it's actually banned on a number of race tracks for exceeding noise limits.

My impressions are that the lighting is great; I liked the sense of speed, the handling looked a little off, and it just seemed a tad boring.

If this is true, not only is my hype deflating for Driveclub, i would actually grow to hate on the game with furious passion :O

Get a grip, and stop being so pathetic.

The beauty of opinions, just voicing my own. I'm happy for everyone that is excited though and I hope it's a decent game.

Try not saying 'I don't understand you people that like this!' next time you voice your opinion then.

Twelve players bumping around that track together (well eleven, with me way back) is not going to be boring, no way.

That looks bloody amazing. And that was with YouTube compression and all.

Really do not get what looks so good about that?

I feel like you weren't present last gen at all.

The lighting has a bunch of tech that I am interested in seeing more of.

one thing a lot of people don't understand is that resolution is absolutely subjective. both bit depth and calculations per pixel have a huge impact on what the final resolution/framerate of a game is. those of you talking 60fps etc, consider that they could have done that and had 4k60 if they didn't calculate so much lighting per pixel or many other things.

This is nice and I like the tech on show. Most of the game is not my style as I am more of a sim junkie.

Im not entirely convinced I wouldn't believe you if you told me this was a NFSpeed game. the styles are very similar still wondering what they are gonna do that is gonna set this IP apart from the many other series that seem to have already covered this ground.

this isn't a sim it isn't a nfs title test drive was doing something similar to this with the online aspect. *shrugs*

Lots of cars are these days, mine included. Cars sound quite different inside, even without sound deadening. Anyway, people move next to a track then complain about the noise. Next comes decibel meters and amateur motorsport and RWYB tracks days that should be rising in popularity are not. This also results in more fools racing on roads as they haven't got anywhere else.

DriveClub looks amazing though, I can't understand people wanting crazy unrealistic drifting, bad handling models, explosions and the like. Simcade is a good balance, and the way to go if not a sim or a kart racer.

The marketing on this game.....I have never seen anything like it. Since its been announced, we haven't gotten a single video that showed off what we will actually play. Honestly, is it so hard for EVO to just record a 3vs3 club vs club race from their office, with all the social aspect/kudos stuff turned on and then just uploaded to the internet to download?

Like is it really that hard? Does Sony have a gag order on the game? I don't get it....

Well people were clamoring endlessly for a full race video :P So that's what we got.

In fact, I was bitching for more cockpit view racing, and that's what I got.

People wanted footage without all the pop-ups impeding the view, and that's what this is.

Put it on the list, and I'm sure Evo will get around to it :P

One subtle detail l had not noticed until now - cat eyes! That's the first game I've seen them implemented, nice touch Evo :)

This is my point exactly. We shouldn't be begging the game director for a 2 min full race video for a racing game, that was announced 14 months ago.

We are trying to help them out, by spreading good word of mouth. We can't talk to our friends about how mind blowing the graphics are when they can't give us good quality videos and we can't talk about how intriguing the social aspect is when it hasn't been put into practice once. Can you name me a racing game in the past decade that took 14 months after initial reveal to show off its first race? Atleast gt5 had prologue and constant video updates during its several delays.

Looks incredible. The dynamic time of day thing is going to be glorious. One thing that I'm still waiting to know is how viable is this as a single player only game? Most of my friends are not into racers and I had a good time soloing NFS Rivals.

How the hell does this look boring?

Once you get your hands on the controller it'll be anything but.

The dusk lighting is amazing. They've nailed that shade of blue perfectly.

Game looks gorgeous and I am hyped. I get a Codemasters (more TOCA RD than GRID) vibe from the video. I do wish it was 60fps but you can't have everything. I also disagree with some of the sentiments that this game needs a hook. There really aren't a lot of racers in the middle between clinical racers (GT, Forza, pCars, rFactor etc..) and the spinning bowties and exploding cigars of NFS (except Shift), Ridge Racer, Motorstorm and the like.

Never understood those kinds of opinions. Especially when it comes to a racer which is all about control, not watching some video of someone else play it.

No 1080p upload, what is this, an Xbox One game? :)

Looks amazing, the background detail is ridiculous and the lighting makes everything like so much more realistic. Can't wait to try the demo out. Used to buy MotoGP games but they got real bad, and haven't bought a car racing game since Racing Evoluzione (APEX) on Xbox OG which was brilliant but may end up buying it.

I was really looking forward to this at launch, hopefully as fun as the graphics are amazing. Been soured a bit by how things have been handled with this game but as long as there is a great game then I can't complain too much. Interested in the tracks announced, if there is a London track it would probably convince me into dropping the cash but judging by the outdoor environments shown so far I don't think any city races can be expected.

Exactly: It's like I said earlier: It's going to be 12 players racing, how is that going to be boring?!

Even if it controlled like shit, and looked like shit, it would still be brilliant. Especially with me trolleying all over the the road embarrassing my club, and taking out other stragglers.

The 'hook' is the social aspect, the clubs the challenges, the crushing defeats at the hands of a gang of 10 year olds. And the glorious environments.

These videos are making me a believer. Whilst I prefer 60 fps eye candy like this is hard to resist. Good sense of speed coming across too.

It does look boring compared to the racing games I've played in the past; WipEout, MotorStorm, TrackMania, SSX, Stunt Car Racer... all the racers like GT, Forza, NFS, PGR, and Grid look boring to me. But I'll try the PS+ starter pack when it's available, and see how it plays.

Well yes.. You'd have to like "just racing" and trying to become better at it. I also like arcady games more too. But we've known that this would be a racing game in a simmy kind of way.

Maybe you're just shit at driving games. A bad workman always blames his tools etc...

Lol defintiely not the case. It was like they were trying to find a balance between sim and arcade controls and hadn't hit a sweet spot yet so everything felt off.

I'm taking that as a challenge so I'll see you in October (PSN:
joshcbrugby
) and we can decide who's shit at driving games then ;)

Game looks good, I like the time of day changes and the sense of speed.

I really want to see more of the actual features of the game and the dynamic menu. Like Destiny I'm still unsure of what makes the game stand out in terms of features.

Yeah, it just seems more sim-like the more they show it. I'll still give it a chance though.

heh, I know. You aren't the only one saying it played terribly, I knew a load of people at the Eurogamer expo that felt the same. I love Evo though, I have faith it will come good.

And I can already give you the answer to who is shit at driving games without you embarrassing me in a race :)

Welp good thing this game is free...

Cause I wanna play it.

Well that's the thing isn't it, anybody with a PS4 and Plus can try it and if it's shit word will spread fast. It's quite a ballsy move, in a way. Like those horrible Richmond sausages that never cook in the middle saying 'If you don't like us, get your money back!'

Goddamn, even at 1080p it's a horrible compressed mess.

I was reading about the Last of Us remaster in Edge, and ND were saying there that it is a real problem promoting games from this generation. They have all these beautiful graphics, 1080p resolution, and 60fps and they have no way to show them off.

It's a big problem for them, and clearly for Evo, to rely on artifact-riddled small view videos to show their wares in the best light. I think things like Infamous Second Son's photo mode are going to be one of the best ways to get word-of mouth positive advertising around.

Those videos reignited my interest in the game. Not only does it look gorgeous, but it features an arcady handling (liking the drifting) that reminds me of the fun titles of old. 1080p video needed!

Dash cam is glorious.

Looks nice. Is that a windscreen reflection on the bottom left?

That just sounds silly to me mate. Don't get 'that' opinion at all. ?
