New Evangelion Movie teaser images

3.0 was a real... well, it was a thing...

But I'm still very excited to see where it goes.

Fuck yeah!

1.11 is a beautiful retelling of the first few episodes.

2.22 is an incredible change to the characters and story, watching Shinji grow a pair to save Rei was so hype.

3.33 is alright... it was such a sudden shift in tone. Then again so was the original series as it neared the end. So maybe it was what Anno was trying to get at, trying to create a sense of isolation and alienation. It felt so different, but at the same time so familiar.

Annnooooo.

Gimme. 3.0 was such a trip, that I'm really curious to see how they wrap it up. (Well, knowing Anno, you'll get no wrap up, and you'll like it!)

I wonder how they will try to subvert expectations. Timeloop seems bit too obvious, there has to be more to it, right?

For all the people praising 2.0... nah. It was a good movie, but definitely felt like Evangelion going most "safe". None of the despair of the latter half of the anime/eoe was present, and it just felt way too much like normal mecha anime, outside the ending. 3.0, while weird and unpleasant at times, definitely felt closer to Evangelion.

Can't wait for 2 hours of crayon scribbles.

I thought the joke of 2.0 is that it was deliberately taking the piss out of more standard shonen shows only to subvert it with the ending and 3.0. Which would have been very effective in context if 3.0 didnÂ’t suck.

I know the chance's of this happening is -0000001% but it would be pretty insane if they dropped a nuke and announced its coming in a few weeks. A surprise release.

I remember when the first movie came out I said to myself, "I'll wait until they're done, should be a few years only". That was in 2007. I still haven't seen any of the Rebuild movies.

For me they get worse and worse after part 1. The first one felt more like a remake of the original series. I feel like part 2 and 3 just deviate away from the series so much that it isn't Evangelion anymore.

Deviating from the story is the most Eva thing they could have done

That's the point though.

I haven't seen 3 yet though. I have the bluray. But haven't had a chance to marathon through the 1st two movies again. I'm really curious to watch it.

I thought 3.0 was great, but very weird.

What I hated though was the "preview" of the 4th movie at the end of 3.0. Looked like HOT GARBAGE, but I doubt any of that will actually end up being in the final film.

My greatest wish for 3.0+1.0 is the return of the MP Eva units. Coolest design ever.

MP Eva units looks cool and disgusting.

Dat lipstick.

3.0 was an absolutely beautiful rage-inducing dumpster fire with incredible music. I'm really hoping that this last movie is better written, but I'm not holding my breath. The last chance for exposition and plot was lost with 3.0, since the finale is all but guaranteed to be focused on creating a spectacle and hammering away at whatever its message is.

It's a shame how these movies turned out, especially after how incredibly promising 2.0 was, but I will still devour whatever Anno churns out, and I'm very excited to see this get any kind of progress.

Maybe after Godzilla Anno realized that he owed it to the fans all these years for keep him alive just for spite and is really gonna give it to us. I mean its gonna be absolutely brutal and disturbing it traumatizes the audience. He just kills the entire series deader than dead with the final movie now that he has control. The final scene is just something graphic in the poorest of poor taste like a live action scene of Anno jerking off onto an Asuka love pillow while flipping the bird at the camera to end for all time and forever more. More spiteful and vindictive than if Alan Moore and Harlon Ellison did the fusion dance.

Gainaix still producing this?
In the sense that khara is a large part of what came out of Gainax and left it a hollowed out husk (them and Trigger), sure.

In any other sense, no. khara has full ownership of Evangelion now. Kinda funny on a personal level as besides obviously being introduced to Gainax via Evangelion I had thought Gainax was a damn cool name, but so it goes.

Gainax's top talent has been gone for years, they're all in Khara and Trigger now.

It's like hyping up Bungie's legacy: this isn't the same team that made Halo

God damn I was too busy looking at pictures of Saddam Hussein because Bungie's first credited software was some Gulf War tank game for Mac that I totally got beaten to the punch.

Just fact checking my shit about Bungie. Results inconclusive.

I mean, episode 9 is one of the best of the show so I don't think that's necessarily fair.

Plus it flips certain aspects of the show on their heads rather well.

I don't see how anyone can get this impression from 2.0. They added an entire additional character, teased a bunch of romcom stuff while building up to wacky family bonding shenanigans, then fucking murdered Asuka and salted the wound with an image of Touji safe and sound with his sister.

Yes, she got better, and yes, they stuck that teaser in for 3.0 that showed Asuka alive and well, but at the time of viewing it was a huge jump from the original series. And then it kept going. Everything was upended with Shinji starting Third Impact and Kaworu descending from the moon.

2.0 is only disappointing in retrospect because 3.0 basically discarded everything that happened prior, including the interesting shifts and subversions that 2.0 set up.
