New Famitsu Scores

Sword of Mana got a 33, from reading earlier in the thread. In Famitsuese, 33 and 36 are worlds apart. One is "passable RPG standard," the other is "you will say wow."

Famitsu also gave Nintendogs a 40/40. I didn't say "wow", i said "LOL"

but yeah I think CoM has a good chance of being better than SoM. Certainly looks worlds apart...

fuck famitsu Rockman Rockman will own.

Yeah, there's something really fucking wrong with how Famitsu scores some of this stuff. But there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or logic to it. I mean other Capcom games score well and Capcom goes ahead and makes the best Rockman game in years and they bomb it. Meanwhile they give the Rockman .EXE games high scores. I'd actually like to see the review text for the Irregular Hunter review to see what they were bitching about when giving it 6/10.

People should post Dengeki scores. They're the only "normal" intelligent reviews I ever found when reading mags in Japan.

Maybe the low megaman scores reflect the reviewers not enraptured by nostalgia? I wouldnt know, because I loves me some megaman.

But it wasn't nostalgia. For someone whose never played a Megaman game before, the PSP one is the best action platformer in recent memory. The game just rocks from a gameplay standard. It's got great graphics, great music, great controls, no loading, great gameplay. 6/10?

Well, yeah, I was just confining the comparison to the RPG realm. But yes -- I don't actually much care what Famitsu says, though obviously a game I am interested in getting a good score is better than it getting a bad score, regardless the publication.

Everything about CoM from day one has said it would be far, far better than SWoM was. From the visuals, to the character designs, to the animation in videos to the music and the quality of the staff they got on the game (Koichi Ishii, Masaharu Iwata, Masato Kato, Takiyuki Aihara, Nao Ikeda) to the fact that the developers repeatedly insisted they were looking to Secret of Mana for inspiration... everything about this game was saying quality, whereas with Sword, it looked pretty but nothing else was seeming that impressive beforehand. I've been very optimistic about the game as a result of all that.

Also if a game gets a 36 then, while Famitsu reviews don't mean much, it means it's at least a good game. It might not be AAA, but it certainly can't be really bad.

I know Radiata Stories getting a 36/40 (also Square Enix) was pretty debatable. But it wasn't a really bad game or anything.

QFT

I still think moneyhats were involved in that fiasco.

CoM looks good to me. I can't wait until we get some new videos from it.

Very nice score. I almost always seem to agree with Famitsu's scores, I mean when I like a game, Famitsu also gave it a good score. So I'm going to trust on this one as well :D

Irregular Hunter X (PSP, Capcom): 7 / 7 / 7 / 6 - (27/40)

Rockman Rockman - 7/7/8/7 (29/40)

So basically Rockman Rockman is fucking awesome?

EDIT: Wait, and this must mean that Dirge of Cerberus IS good! I WIN~~

-4 for picking MM over MM2.

hahah this was awesome.

First two pages: "CoM 30/40? BOMBA!" "30/40, th...that's...not so bad." "FUCK FAMITSU! I'LL PLAY IT FOR MYSELF!"

Pages two and three: " CoM really 36/40? YAY! I LOVE FAMITSU" "I always knew it was better than the original score!" not to mention huge sighs of relief from all those trying to tell themselves 30/40 'wasn't so bad'. :lol

I'm convinced duckroll planted that score just to watch the rollercoaster of Mana fans! :D

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO CHILDREN OF MANA WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MANA WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO CHILDREN OF MANA WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

Yay.

@ CoM score!

I'm excited for Children of Mana, but what i'd like even more is a US release of Seiken Densetsu 3.

Anyone know what Seiken Densetsu 3 got from Famitsu 10 years ago? Is there any website that keeps track of all the scores famitsu has ever given?

Arcade port of React, boss character are now playable, few engine tweaks/differences, time limit, they added Kouma as a bonus char. and new endings too, that's all afaik.

I really want CoM now, but having missed out on the Mana series, just how important is the plot? I know some RPGs you can just play through and not give a damn about whats being said but if thats not the case with CoM I think I will wait for a translation :(

I don't care about Nintendogs either, but giving it a 40/40 based on its intended genre makes sense to me. I wouldn't argue that reviews of Curious George books should be done in the same vein as novels by Michael Crichton, Tom Clancy, Stephen King, etc.

And for Kurosaki Ichigo, its a fighting game, pretty fun at that too.
edit: forgot to include a review link http://www.insertcredit.com/reviews/meltyblood/index.html
Not the arcade one, nor the version the port is based on, but is basically the same game and characters.

Uhm...I'm a little lost here.
I really like Shingetsutan Tsukihime (and now Fate/stay night) and I know both are based on games.

But this is a fighting game with lots of cameos or what? :S

I'm not an expert or anything and I haven't even looked at this new game, but didn't the franchise start off as a hentai /h-fighting game? Then it became an anime and now I believe its a new or remade fighting game?

Game of the show of the game.

Tsukihime got a second season? A sequel? Fill me in, please... [I'm talking about the anime]

No. Theres only a game where you get to have sex with all the girls, which became so popular they made an anime on it minus the sex. and now I think they remade the original game...minus the sex.

There is probably more, but thats the extent of my outdated knowledge. Sorry. for any anime updates check www.animenfo.com

Thanks for the info... :)

I liked the anime [it has vampires, and vampires rule :p]... plus, the music was nice [there is one song I really like, the one with the knife fight I believe...]

It's a "re-do" of Secret of Mana.

Not a remake, but a "re-do."

Soo, essentially same story/type of game, just told in a newer light.

Melty Blood is based on the game, which the anime is based on, the anime was a conversion of the main game storyline, while Melty Blood is more like a gaiden since it's not an official sequel.

Bleh. Just noticed this. Not that I had much hope for the game, but this is a pretty damn low score. I hope it's actually better than this, or else I'll be kinda pissed NIS America is wasting their time and money on it.

It's not a "re-do" or a remake of Secret of Mana. Sure, the story is essentially the same in that the story is essentially the same in every Mana game -- humanity drains world's energy, Mana Tree weakens, Mana Tree gets restored, humans saved yay.

Aside from that, no. The characters are totally and completely different in this game in terms of their personalities and backstories, and the world itself is different. It's not related.
