The problem w/ your opinions on this is that you're clearly showing a slanted bias against these games in particular, and playing favorites. Which everyone does to some degree, but you're also downplaying myriads of other reasons and factors some people being new to the games could enjoy them as much, if not more so, than your supposed "best picks".
Obviously the devs on this new one felt they were still good enough to make a new entry around, so there's at least a good magnitude more people out there who still enjoy them, and a decent amount who may even check out the first two if they enjoy the new entry. But what you're basically doing here is trying to dissuade against even giving people the choice to do that, which I can only assume is based off of your own personal experience.
However, you haven't even explained why you feel the games don't hold up at all and aren't worth the effort.
I'm glad they are making a new one. I played the originals when I came out and I like them.
But there are literally people in here, saying to people who have never played these games, that they are "Must-play" games. They aren't. Even when released they weren't up to the standards of a Resident Evil etc. The graphics look terrible now, the controls are terrible and the story is clunky. It was fine in the late 90's but it doesn't hold up anymore.
If anyone feels like playing them they should go ahead. But saying they are must-play games without any warning that you have to look past an awful lot today to get enjoyment out of them is just dishonest.
