new Final Fantasy 12 pics

Gonna make a guess: people bashing it haven't played the demo. The new battle engine is fast, fun, and refreshing and the graphics looked great. The music was also great and nostalgic.

The whole, "this game looks horrible," movement is bolstered by the fact Square can't seem to get it out.

I played the hell out of it. It was faster and not all that fun at least not for me. It's like it was trying to be the Baulders Gate engine but fails on so many levels. I'll give it a few more tries but that system is way too foreign for my liking and not in a good way and I love Matsuno.

Or make a Vagrant Story sequel for PS3.

Game looks great, very excited to see the new direction of Final Fantasy, which desperately needed it.

"How did it strike you as Baulder's Gate and not KOTOR?"

KOTOR's battle system is (unsurprisingly) pretty similar to Baldur's Gate's so it doesn't matter which it struck him as.

It will still be amazing, i'm sure. And it's going to be out in the U.S. around the same time as the PS3 hits. By then, it will all be about gameplay to people, not graphics. Hey wait, that's what it's about right? Gameplay over graphics.

And no, it does not play like KOTOR/BG. Ugh, KOTOR had such a crappy battle system. People who think it was real-time action need to stop joking themselves. Nice cover up though.

It does play like KOTOR on Wait mode. If you press the white button on the Xbox, you actually get almost identical systems.

Sorry, I'm too distracted by the blurry shit on the floor.

This is the PS2 we're talking about here. High-res backgrounds need a bit more juice from their hardware.

On a side note, let's tell SE we want Vagrant Story 2 on the PS3/360!!! Yeah, let's do it!

.... :)

ding.

Maybe it's me but it just doesn't feel as shitty as Kotor. I am a Matsuno whore but I will be the first to admit that the battle system is barely action based. Walking around the enemy doesn't automatically make it an action-rpg if it doesn't make a difference in AP/HP.

My feelings about this game are rather ambivalent. The gameplay shots are beginning to look dated, and the gameplay in the DQ8 demo was just shy of godawful. On the other hand it is a new Final Fantasy. I know I'll end up buying it, but never before have I felt so unsure about a FF title. The troubled production behind this game isn't helping, either. This had better not end up being a hobbled together mess.

Square's let me down enough times over the past couple of years that I'm prepared for anything, but I certainly hope they manage to pull things together for their flagship series.

Uh, I hope you realize that Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance != Baldur's Gate. Baldur's Gate 2 being the zenith of all RPGs.

Your opinion. BG 2 was fun but not anywhere near perfection.

Godawful? I would hate to hear what you think of 80% of modern rpgs.

It didn't seem like you even knew what Baldur's Gate II was and now you're telling me your opinion of it?

No I just never beat it. I think it was a good game, much better than most rpgs that have come out over the past few years but "perfection"? I don't think so.

We should all just wait until March and see. Like it was stated before, this FF might be like 8. It will seperate the fans like no other.

Zenith means the peak, not perfection. Meaning it's the best RPG yet. And until a better game is released, there it shall remain.

Wow, who pushed the graphics whore button all of a sudden?

Anyway, this stuff looks great. I can't wait to see how the final game turns out.

Now this is how we continue a thread! I agree 100%

I can't believe how much hating there is agains't FF12 graphics.
They look better AND ALSO TECHNICALLY better than Magna Carta and i see alot less bithching on there.
FF12 looks good seriously, you don't play your PS2 too much nowadays i guess. You should plug it back and play the more RPGs you can and notice FF12 is looking fucking fine.

The game looks interesting to me. Sure, the gameplay graphics look awful but that's really nothing new for Final Fantasy, not to mention the fact that it probably looks pretty good in motion. I'm just hoping it will have some good gameplay, especially the battle system. It seemed like a lot of people enjoyed the FFX battle system, but I thought it was very bad. The art looks cool, the environments look very nice, and I'm excited about the overall "feel" of the game which I personally find to be the most vital aspect of any RPG experience.

MMO-style combat doesn't do it for me. It's a lot of wasted time, waiting around between attacks. And it lacks any real fluidity. Kotor did this sort of thing much better.

Also, the whole radar thing really didn't sit well with me. I'm all for Square trying to freshen up the formula, but much like FF11, I wish they wouldn't label their big experiments as numbered Final Fantasies.

i like that there will be incest, but i DON'T like that everyone will be straight.
I wish I hadn't read that.

This game looks great, all you dorks whining about the graphics seem to forget that everything looks better in motion. I guess hating FFXII is the new cool thing to do though. I'm really stoked for this game.

Never played KOTOR but,
FF12 is not an action/RPG. The mere fact that you still have to input commands should negate that action/RPG feel. The battle system is simply in realtime, and I think that's cool. Just about every modern PC RPG has already adopted a realtime system, and I think it's great that console RPGs are moving in that direction. Who knows, maybe Dragon Quest will follow suit at some point.

XENOGEARS
*Cough was released years ago, and it is the best yet. BG might be amongst the best western rpgs, but I believe a certain title, PoT, has it beat in that category too.

i just played the demo and I think the game looks pretty awesome. The battle system is new and vastly different than any other FF, and I dig it (what little of it I played anyway). There isn't nearly as much waiting around as the ATB system. I'm playing FF9 and im amazed at how much time there can be between attacks. The graphics have that PS2 trademark fuzziness that crops up in the background, but I've grown pretty used to it by now. i dig the art, the music, the gameplay (what little of it there was to experience)

what really bothers me is how horrible the main character looks. like seriously, with this much dev time i'd hoped they would scrap him, or at least kill him off and have someone else play as the main character.

Doubt it. Yuji Horii said in a recent DQVIII interview that he never sees DQ having a real time battle system. I dont mind really.. some genres work better turn based. (RPGs and Strategy)

from googling up a few interviews it looks like the princess and the fruity antagonist will be long lost brother and sister a la star wars. cheesy lucasian plot device ftw!

Much like Kirby's Air Ride, you have to play BG2 for about 200 hours until you can form an opinion.

768x576? Are prerelease PS2 images usually in this resolution? Dev kit? PS3 backwards compatibility?

Never really paid attention on previous games because I didn't have a HDTV, but I'd love to play FF12 in 720p...

I don't think the game is bad technically (although it's not great, either), but I'm pretty disappointed with the game's lack of style. Pretty much everything I've seen of FF XII could have come from any number of other generic medieval worlds. And the FF games usually have more style :/ -- compare FF XII to, say, FF VIII or FF X, both of which have unique aesthetics to their game worlds. This just looks like Vagrant Story 2 :[

But, my impression of the gameplay / battle system is quite positive based on the demo, so I'm still looking forward to this :)

BULLFUCKINGSHIT!!! *PLEASE* tell me you are joking???!! *breaths in*
Ok. I have to be more open toward other opinions...in fact, a great many of posters in here should, but you have got to be sitting atop the largest pile of delusion in existence. Xenogears better than Square's other 32-bit output *let alone* Baldur's Gate II???
and sorry...my acronyms are a bit off at the moment...what does PoT stand for?

The demo looked pretty good. Is not the best looking PS2 title that's for sure but is certainly not a slouch when it comes to graphics.

OH forgot there was no 'o' in the acronym, it's Plane Scape Torment.
The xenogears music, the cities, the gears, darn it all ruled, and the story was crazy and funny enough to merit the position of number #1. Soylent Green? Chuchu's crucifixion? The elements? Bart and Margie 's-cough 16 but looks 11- relationship? The orphanage? :lol , the sailors? The whole outrageously extreme way they present the class conflict issue, and the corrupt religion theme? I mean that's stuff's classic, and I won't spoil it but the guy who gets to trascend it all at the end, you just wouldn't expect it :lol
