New Freedom Wars (Vita) screens

Hopefully this will have actual zones instead of using the same five 1-zone arenas the whole game like another MH clone I bought for the Vita...

Ok, I know it's a handheld, but even by Vita standard this games look Graphically weak with low poly models (mechs look decent tho) vaseline textures (see that big rock ), bad lighting and environments too, I don't think Vita that weak, SCE Japan Studio need to do better than this they should know the hardware better than anyone else.

and what is going on with the dirt effect here?

Oh well, at least the concept (fighting mechs and saving people) is new and very interesting.

This looks great. I'm pretty much already sold on it, as long as it plays better than Soul Sacrifice, which was a huge disappointment.

It's expected to launch Q2 2014...and well, you know how will look in that OLED.

I really hate the Monster Hunter genre or what ever its called. I want RPGs , not this crap. Vita should be an awesome RPG machine.

I know I would trade all the clones for a HD Monster Hunter. Hopefully there's still a chance Vita will get one some day.

I think they said it's up to 8 players co-op. So I imagine you have to make some visual sacrifice for 8 people on the screen at once.

I think this game will do much better than Soul Sacrifice.

No thanks, this looks much more interesting. Tried the PSP games, even more tedious than Soul Sacrifice, which was reasonable in comparison.

Sony is progressing at least.

To be fair I played Monhun SP, it looks a lot better with people. Maybe with better graphics and controls I'd be willing to put in more time too.

Huh? Vita has only been through one Gamescom after release. What are you talkin about? Also the Gamescom vita announcements were still the best

If you are referring to my 'again' bit of the comment I was talking about E3. It was a huge disappointment. I hope they do better at gamescom but not getting my hopes up

edit: on a different note I really dislike this 'monhun clone' classification. Hunting games is the correct term for the sub genre. It's not a MH clone if it does it's own take on the sub genre which games like SS, GE and Toukiden do. It's a disservice to those titles to merely dismiss them as a MH clone.

Give up any hope for that. I bought a vita mistakenly thinking it would get RPGs at the level of the PSP. I soon came to my senses and sold it for a 3ds. If there was ever a console that deserves to die its the vita.

This is a first party game right?

I think it looks cool and all and I'm interested, but frankly I'm tired that Sony is still chasing after the Monster Hunter popularity.

Soul Sacrifice is already a good spin on the Monster Hunter formula.

Give us something new Sony, I don't want all big Vita games to be MH like.

This looks interesting enough, but I want to get a JRPG on the Vita that doesn't resemble Monster Hunter in some way, shape or form. That upcoming game Bravely Default that's on the 3DS, I want something like that making its way to the Vita. Something that harks back to the Final Fantasy games of the PS1 era.

Having said that, I did really enjoy Soul Sacrifice, especially its four player co-op. And Toukiden looks good enough that I may well have to import the U.S. version (assuming the reviews are good and it doesn't get a UK date announced anytime soon). I just crave a JRPG that's more ambitious and breaks away from this certain formula that seems to be all the rage on the Vita right now. You take one look at all those screenshots in the opening post and Freedom Wars is already very familiar.

And seriously...Panopticon is the far superior name.

I'd argue that MonHun is the worst franchise in the genre at this point myself. Capcom might have put out the first big success in the genre, but they've done very little to innovate since then and, to me at least, God Eater already one upped them on the PSP and Soul Sacrifice put an entirely new (very good) spin on the genre. This looks likely to do the same.

Capcom is letting their franchise stagnate, not surprising since they're stagnating as a company, but also not a reason for me want a MonHun game over a new God Eater and Sony's willingness to fund people like Inafune making an attempt alongside their own in-house entry.

Um, they are.

What else would you call Killzone: Mercenary and Tearaway other than big Vita games that are nothing like MonHun?

As for people pining for more JRPGs, you all know we're getting Ys: Memories of Celceta this fall right? And that the next Zeboyd games RPG will be on Vita as well. It's got some worthwhile RPGs on the way.

I personally welcome more MH type games on the Vita, it's very fun genre and playing with people online or off is just an amazing experience. I'm very interested in this title, the artstyle is great. I hope it comes over to the west soon.

SP Monster Hunter is the definition of doing it wrong. This is a nice effort by Sony, but an actual Monster Hunter Vita would shit all over this and Soul Sacrifice. They know that as well, just look at the P3rd sales.

This game looks good. I hope it get's brought over.

I own both and love my Vita more. Come at me bro.

PS1 game was never localized.

PSP remake was never localized.

Vita game is nowhere to be seen.

Can't blame them for not knowing or even caring if they did.

their western side especially SCEA is piece of shit when it come to bringing their japanese IP to the west.

if not because x-seed, atlus, nisa, d3, agetec, etc there would be even more 1st party title stuck in japan.

Deserves to die really? There's no need to make inflammatory comments like that. I mean sure it hasn't really set the rpg world on fire but its making strides in that department. There's a slew of Japanese games, not just RPGs, getting announced and localized. I think you're writing it off way to early.

Monster Hunter with Mechs is A-OK with me. Hopefully, the gameplay is a lot more gripping than Soul Sacrifice was for me, especially with God Eater 2 being questionable for release in the west.

It looks like you can use your thorns to traverse across the map by using it to grab onto buildings and pulling yourself along. Looks vertical.

Reading this actually makes me a little more excited, must be my desire for a competent Attack on Titan game.

Am I the only one sick of all the Monster Hunter inspired games?

No.

What a dissapointment. I would have bought this game if it weren't the typical hunting genre. Was hoping it was more of an action SRPG, less of the beast things or maybe just leave that as boss battles. I prefer a focus on open world exploration over vast vast areas instead of hunting. Something like Wild Arms is more to my tastes.

I enjoyed Freedom Unite, but after 40 hours in I got bored of it.

I gave Gods Eater Burst a try, it wasnt the same thing but man I preferred monster hunter to that series and I didn't even really like Monster Hunter.

I gave Soul Sacrifice's demo a chance. Really punishing and much more difficult than the other 2 games I played. The small portions/chapters of the campaign I played were fun. Amazing VA, and narrative for a game like this were amazing. On the other hand, playing online I felt like a total noob and was cannon fodder for my group. I think it may have been an advanced difficulty setting but I couldn't even get the basic of basic in that game. The spells and customization were crazy fun though.

Its a game I'd rather pay discounted for or spend minimal. Maybe when its free for PS+ 2 years from now, but I left it in favor of guacamelee.

Liking this. I've recently become quite taken by the hunter/raid type games (though I was a huge fan of PSO on DC), and I definitely plan to snatch this one up.

Don't judge the game's visuals based on super compressed Famitsu jpegs.

As for this game's localization chances well it's decidedly more anime than Soul Sacrifice and while SCEE did trademark a name related to this game it was Panopticon and not the true title.

And just because SCEE localizes it doesn't meant it will be released in NA. They localized WKC for the PSP, and no one bothered to pick it up for release in NA.

They should show some other environment, this one looks very flat. They keep showing this very same place which isn't exactly flattering. An actual gameplay video would be nice too though the game is still far away from release.

Siliconera put up lots of details about how the missions are structured as well as some propaganda/backstory about one of the actual Panopticons.

To all the citizens of all Panopticon: There are no nations before us. There are no nations after us. Push on forward, towards the desired final and sound happiness, under the ideals of our noble Panopticon.

And the official website is back to its incremental info drip like it was before, so more details and screens should hit on the 25th and again on the 1st.
