New Ghostbusters Movie is coming

Ghostbusters was always a bit shit really, a guilty pleasure more than anything. And definitely a product of its time. I enjoyed it when I was 7 and watched it on VHS in 1988.

This will only go one way. And Ghostbusters 2 already went there.

uhh no? what a ridiculous thing to say

he film became a cultural phenomenon and an instant classic. The American Film Institute ranked it 28th in its list of the top 100 comedies of all time (in their 100 Years... 100 Laughs list),[52] and nominated it for its lists of the 100 greatest movies in 1998[53] and 2007[54] and the 100 most heart-pounding movies (in AFI's 100 Years...100 Thrills).

In 2005, IGN voted Ghostbusters the greatest comedy ever.[59] In 2006, Bravo ranked Ghostbusters 76 on their 100 Funniest Movies list.[60] Entertainment Weekly ranked it as the Funniest Movie of the Past 25 Years.

In 2008, Empire magazine ranked the film #189 on its list of The 500 Greatest Movies of All Time.[62] In 2009, National Review magazine ranked Ghostbusters
number 10 on its 25 Best Conservative Movies of the Last 25 Years list.

In 2000, readers of Total Film magazine voted Ghostbusters the 44th greatest comedy film of all time.

Ghostbusters theme-song is gonna be either rap or pop in this one.

And Melissa McCarthy. Yikes, that's gonna drop it to a rental for me if true.

I've no issue with females in the group, all female though? Ugh. Just squeeze norm MacDonald in there as the only male and I'll be happy, he was born to be a Ghostbuster
I've never even considered that but holy Christ, Norm would be fucking amazing. Wow now I have to live in sadness that that'll never happen.

I just think that "we're rebooting it! Same story as before but now they're all girls!!" is the dumbest fucking direction to take the franchise. That's a one-and-done gimmick idea, not something that'll promote the resurgence of a franchise. Make a new team, mix it up with the genders and ethnicities. No reason for the new team to just be four people, could be five or six even since Feig has worked with big casts.

I'm going to say the same thing I said two months ago:

It has nothing to do with whether or not the concept is fantastic. The point is, we've heard just about every possible iteration of "this film is being worked on" for the last two-and-a-half decades. Christ, I remember casting rumors about Chris Farley and Adam Sandler in the 90's.

There were times when Eliza Dushku and Seth Rogan were rumored as cast members. Aykroyd's written God-knows-how-many scripts over the years, and all of them failed to gain traction (the "ManHellTon" script, the reboot with the younger generation). They were apparently set to start pre-production at one point, but scuttled it a month before the planned start date. It's probably the concept with the biggest resistance in Hollywood, and I can't tell whether that's because they're still hung up on getting Murray, the concept is so deliberately tied to the 80's that it would be difficult modernizing it, or no one takes any of the concepts seriously.

No timeline for production, the same old hype train that was trotted out when they had the writers from The Office come onboard, and no real way to know when this film is going to be officially greenlit. Until you see people on-set shooting, don't assume anything.

I'm sure Kristen Wiig will be along to destroy any chance this movie had of being funny.

Really just dont want this movie to ever happen. Ghostbusters is like this perfect movie, this perfect thing, that even the same cast couldnt come close to with GBII.

The idea of today's crop of 'comedy' writers even getting into the same galaxy is not possible to me. Even writers of modern things I considered once pretty good to amazing can't even recreate their own strengths, just look at shit like Anchorman 2 or Arrested Development Season 4.

Ghostbusters wasn't even that well written. It would have been a disaster without Murray

I'm with you 100%. Seems like 20 years now that we've been hearing this exact same news.

It wouldn't surprise me if gets canned halfway through shooting, IF they even make it that far this time.

I'm not sold on an all female cast for this franchise but this movie probably isn't for me. I could see one or two roles being filled by women but the whole leading cast? This is a very unexpected direction.

I was satisfied with the game a few years back. That's really the way this franchise should live on. Either games or more animated programming.

I really liked Bridesmaids. Really disliked The Heat. I'm torn...

Wouldn't dynamics be funnier if the team was men and women? Got no problem with an all female cast. Just seems like an interesting decision.

Yeah me too. The plane scene in Bridesmaid is funny as hell, but The Heat was just terrible and not a funny movie.

I feel like I've heard about this movie like twenty times over the past decade and nothing ever seems to surface.

I'm not going to be terribly dismayed if it doesn't occur again, I'm not a overly big fan but a cast of women or at least partial could be fun. I'd love to see Tina Fey and/or Amy Poehler in it

I find it interesting how the news about the cast being women is bigger than the fact that they are actually rebooting Ghostbusters.

Is using women as a gimmick supposed to be "progress"? Because that's what it appears to be on social media right now. Just a poblicity stunt. "Hey guys! It stars women! WOMEN!".

Post apocalyptic world. Ghosts have taken over the planet. All the Ghostbusters are dead. All but one. Old man Winston. Let's do this.

10/10 will watch . Anyway a darker Ghostbuster or something in the vibe of Extreme Ghostbusters would be awesome .

But hilarious woman , oh well .

Winston is the trainer/drill saergent, hardarse boss.
Janine is the CEO
Ray is the brains, taking over from Egon but gone a little more crazy

An all-female team is the only way to do this without the original cast. There is no stepping out of their shadow and there's no way they could do it as well, so try something different and immediately set yourself apart - even if everything else is a bit familiar.

I notice a lot of hate on her for being fat. Chris Farley never got this much hate.

Chris Farley went out of his way to deprecate himself for his weight. It's difficult to "hate" someone for jokes they literally invite on themselves. Melissa McCarthy seems to deny that her size is in any way related to her fame. That she's got talent that totally overshadows the fact that she's typecast a certain way. She does have legitimate comedic talent, just like Farley. But, you have to figure an audience will be critical, or at least a bit judgmental, of performers that don't seem to be in on their on jokes, yeah?

As long if you get a good cast or even bring McCarthy a good script, I'm game. I kinda wanted a balanced cast cast though but we'll see.

No Wiig Though.
