New GITS Movie Teaser

Kick and effect was cool Scar jo looks like you can see the lighting in the studio is not a match for the scene.

Big issue is the lighting, and movement, it looks awkward and the suit should be more skin color not so yellow in areas.

That background tho! looking good there.

Is the message at the end for the next teaser or actual trailer on the 13th?

Dang, I had been looking forward to the movie based on the earlier teasers, but this... remaking such a good scene so badly (I mean yeah we saw waaaaay too little too actually fairly judge it, but if this is what they choose to show, imagine what they didn't show) when this apparently isn't even supposed to be based on the first movie's story? My hype has been considerably deflated.

Still think she just looks like she's cosplaying the Major. I like scarjo in other movies but she just doesn't work for action stuff (didn't like Lucy, haven't seen her in the marvel stuff).

It has to be cut together weird in this teaser, the flip is all over the place so I hope the scene is better then this teaser.

Not nude. Meh.... Considering Scarlett did a nude scene for under the skin I imagine the rating was the issue here.

No veil is weird as well.

I can't stand the nude misconception. Its a skin tight suit you see the fabric is ripped up in the battle with the tank. The veil and badass visor are missing tho.

What I don't like about this scene is that a punch of such strength that would send a man's whole body mass tumbling through the air so many times, would in fact much more likely just broken his neck or crushed his head. I've checked, and the original fight looked more physically plausible than this.

This is splitting hairs somewhat though. Yes, she was wearing a skin tight suit in the Oshii adaptation, but the suit was completely transparent. In effect, she was naked.

Not that I see the point in making a fuss over the change from that movie. The thermoptic camouflages in the manga and SAC weren't transparent either.

It's a memorable scene for it's mechanical creepyness. Partly due to the music, but also the majors dead eyes. She truly seems robotic, like a fuck doll come to life.

Even though this is just a teser, all I see is more of this:

There is nothing wrong with sexualized action heroines who kick ass but so many of these are just the same character over and over again. Written by men for men.
Emily Blunt is the one who I think shines above other action heroines right now. I was super impressed with her in Edge of Tomorrow, in Sicario and in Looper (though not an action role). She is really great!

I don't blame any of the women above. It's the scripts. In all of them!:(

Funny you mention Emily Blunt. She had the role of Black Widow until she couldn't do it due to a scheduling conflict. Wonder what could have been had she been able to do the role.

The original GITS is one of the best anime movies ever made and Mamoru Oshii along with Satoshi Kon are my favourite anime film makers

Hell the sequel Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence is the only animated film along with Persepolis that
that was nominated for best film of the year in general (along with the live action films),
competing for a Palme d'Or, in the 2004 Cannes film festival.

That's a hell of an achievement, an animated film to be able to compete on the same level with other film makers is mind blowing.

I mean this western live action adaptation I really don't know if it will achieve anything other than some cheap fan service and hollywood pop corn action.

The movie won't come out til 2017. Let's give them time to clean it up.

But I liked the scene.

I can only hope they don't over do this and give it away. Unless this is a 1-for-1 remake of the original.

But I can do without the emotion on the face. But that's hard for ScarJo

Scar jo looks is so miscast, and I'm not even talking about her not being asian.

Noomi Rapace or rooney mara would have been better if the studios insisted on a white actress.

Hollywood is garbage at casting

They wanted Keanu Reeves to play Spike in the Cowboy Bebop movie

Fuck no

Entertainment Tonight had a on-set segment about GITS last night.

Point of interest: Batou has the "eyes".
Looking alright

The complaints are just cynical and attributing the misconception to its rating (When what we are actually gonna miss with that rating is the ultra-violent cyborg gore)

On a real note no way they would have used the transparent or a skin tight suit, the wider audience would think its fetish gear.

lol at the TrueFans™ bitching about the lack of nudity when she wasn't even naked in the original.

Lot of that with this movie.

Her hair looks real cool

Hope it comes back into style.

I don´t know man. I´m hyped for this, but i have to admit that it´s looking very, very cheap. I hope it ends up being great. It´s just sad when we´re first getting a live action hollywood remake of a classic anime, that they´re gonna go ahead and screw it up. Where´s the respect for the source material, hmmmmmmm?

They're cyborgs, they can take a bit more abuse.

Edit: watched the clip from OP again, does not leave a good taste in my mouth, very disjointed looking. I'd still much rather the movie turn out good, but I can't say I'm expecting much at this point.

Also disappointed (didn't notice the first time around) that they changed that moment from a cool spinning kick into an uppercut punch.

Okay, so we've seen the thermoptic camo fight scene, a scuba diving scene, and a garbage truck.

They are definitely cribbing a lot of scenes straight from the source material.

Also the thermoptic/spider-tank set piece too.

They should have cast someone with high physical fitness, martial arts and/or precise motor/dancing skills. The Major needs to be someone where every move is perfectly executed. Scarlett is not such an actress and thus action scenes will have to either be cut around that deficiency or will have to resort to CG shenanigans.

I'm sure they have stunt doubles for that.

Well yes, but the Major should be mechanical/disciplined in normal body movement even in non action scenes.
And stunt doubles mean you have to cut up your action more, go for closeups to hide the face or use CG to cover them up. It forces a higher editing frequency in action that is not edited as such and more stylized in the original.
Not to speak of loss of awe.
There is a reason JOHN WICK is as highly regarded as it is. Keanu was training like a mad man for the role to get the physicality right.

They can just make her the fast action wig like she is in Marvel films. The start of Civil War is hilarious, look at red hair go.

They should have gotten a director who requires that of their actors then. Not to discount Keanu's hard work, but the directors of John Wick are action choreographers and stunt men. They know their craft and know how to film action. The story is paper thin to supply us with badass action of a basic revenge tale. GitS is a hell of a lot denser.

I don't expect the CG to look this rough when the film releases.

Rupert Sanders is a great visual director and I honestly don't fear the direction of this film, so much as the script.

Say what you want about Snow White and the Huntsman, but the film was beautifully shot and framed. Sanders hasn't given me a reason yet to think that he doesn't know what he's doing.

If they were going for that, they would have just had ScarJo train in all of that. They're obviously going in a different direction.

CG will undoubtedly improve but the movie does release in March, which isn't that far away, and they probably wouldn't be putting this stuff out there if they weren't the more finished effects shots.

Not too worried though, these little teasers are absolutely hacked up and out of context. All it's indicative of is a poorly though out marketing campaign.
