New God Of War III screens/trailer

I think I set my expectations too high... :(

I'm just not ball-numbingly impressed with this batch of screens.
I still have faith, though. This series is far too big for Sony not to throw everything (and the kitchen sink) into it.

I'll wait and see.

Graphics are most underwhelming for all the hype it's gotten, but whatever, if it can match and exceed the grandeur of the set pieces from 2 then it should still be awesome.

The models look good, the environments look good to but it's probably post processing effects that are giving it a weird look like something is missing.

Seriously, what were people expecting? ...Beowulf?

Personally, this looks exactly, how I atleast..expected it to look...

Plus, gameplay and animation is yet to be unveiled. This game looks awesome.

You boys have seriously gone off the deep end if you think this looks like an HD GoW 2.

It's not that the graphics look exactly like GoW PS2, it's just so...boring, so bland and typical. I guess i was expecting more of a spectacle from all the hype and it's just kratos killing a couple enemies in a rehashed background design. Same old same old, moderate graphics upgrade, etc. Yeah IT"S JUST A FEW SCREENSHOTS, but that's enough for people to hype hype hype, works both ways. This game joins Infamous in it's GAF hypage based on average media.

Yeah, just noticed that too.

This looks phenomenal. 2010 release, is a long time from now. This can only get better. 1000% buy for me.

The other sites impressions are hitting soon too.

I don't suppose there's been any indications that with these previews there'll be talk of release dates too? I'm fully expecting 2010, but I'd wet myself if it was this year. :)

What hype ? With the exception Jaffe's painting comment, I haven't heard or seen anyone who is working on the game or any of Sony PR guys hype this game up at all.

You guys really need to measure your expectations and remember that this game is going to run in 1080p at 60 fps. This means it's not going to be the texturezilla that Uncharted 2 is or go insane with post processing effects like Killzone 2. It's just not possible from a technical standpoint, when those games run at 720p and 30fps. It's going to look incredibly crisp, clean, and have the most impressive art and design you'll ever seen in a game. These screenshots convey exactly that.

The game doesn't lend itself to still shots, it seems. But still, gives an indication on how the game should look when it hits, the character models are still very good. Hopefully it's 60 fps, that would make these graphics amazing.

It's certainly no painting (how people could actually set their expectations that high I don't understand), but from the pics it's shaping up to be the best-looking action game this gen so far.

Not surprised at all...again.

From Sam Kennedys 1Up Blog

So as I'm writing this we're only an hour or so away from the big reveal of God of War 3, and I absolutely can't wait. I've spoken to several different journalists who saw it earlier this week and they all couldn't stop raving about the game. I mean, I haven't seen people so unanimously awed by a game in a while -- I wonder if that's going to be reflected in their previews.

From what I've been told, even the stuff we see today -- which will be quite a lot -- doesn't even begin to do it justice. The game even looks better in motion than the trailer they're releasing, which apparently is amazing. I've been out of the office checking out another upcoming game, so I haven't been able to see any of this stuff -- I'll be refreshing the site like a madman just like everyone else come 9:00 am PST.

Here's the link to 1UP's God of War 3 cover story. Check it out after the God of War 3 stuff goes live and come back and tell me what you think! Smile

every screenshot thread someone says that it looks like a previous installment in HD or upscaled. it's stupid as hell.
No offense, I think the game looks great. But I was expecting qvisual assault with this game, keep the character models and whatnot because they look great. But more particle effects would go a long way to add to feeling of more. Of course the game will look better as we see more and the later levels in the game itself will probably get more insane, but these screens while they're great. Look like simply a texture upgrade.

I think it looks pretty awesome. I'm not sure what all the naysayers were expecting. Looks a million times better than Ninja Gaiden 2 and that new ninja game coming to the 360.

Not enough normal-mapping, etc...

Can't tell if you're being serious, but I think it could actually stand to use a bit more normal mapping. It's got a little bit of a last gen up up scaled look to things where all the edges of things are super straight and clean that takes me out of it a bit when looking at still images, but it's the kind of thing you don't really notice while playing.

I really like the character models and lighting though. Has Kratos always had that scar over his eye?

If it does then it's truly impressive, but I doubt about the 1080p part. 60 fps could be...

The dude from infamous had him flying by ionizing the air under his hands and surfing on power line :\ I thought it was awesome, but I also think Prototype looks awesome.

Regardless, there's nothing in those screenshots that yell: SPECTACLE. I appreciate they're showing us small scale stuff (one that also has a picture of a titan in the background).

You're absolutely right, it is just a few screenshots, but I think this game will deliver on some amazing locations and incredibly epic set pieces.

If GoW III picks off right where the second ended then I can't wait to see what the first battle will be like. Climbing up towards Zeus in epic fashion I hope.

Honestly, considering the pedigree of the series I was expecting the best looking game yet on PS3. These screens do not deliver that.

It looks very nice but I am surprised they stuck to the exact same look and style in textures and setting design that was essentially picked to make the game look good on PS2 hardware. It did, but it makes it look a bit dated now I think.

Framerate doesn't exactly translate well onto screenshots (assuming this is 60FPS of course).

hahaha, what the hell does a painting look like?

this place.....

Game looks great and can't wait to play it.

Since I'm passing on KZ2 for terrible controls, I pray that this game can deliver.

1080p and 60fps are unconfirmed. That was just Barlog running his mouth.

I would expect 60fps though. 1080p is pretty doubtful.

The more I stare at these screens, the more respect I have for them. This is going to be one impressive looking game.
And please be more like God of War I...

well, if Heavenly Sword, Resistance, Motorstorm, and Killzone are anything to go by- then yes, I expect it to look much better closer to release.

And what if it doesn't ?, it really doesn't make a difference to me honestly, they look like good clean GFX, as long as the animations are good and the gameplay is as good as GOW1/2 that's all I care about.

People are placing way to much emphasise on the GFX's these days, I just want a good, decent solid game, and I have a feeling GOW3 is going to give us that.

I would take 60 fps with no tearing over particle effects, especially for a fast action game like this.

What were you expecting it to look like. It looks like a better looking version to a game that was already good looking. :lol
