new Golden Sun Dark Dawn video preview (Aug 18, 2010)

Looks great! That's the Golden Sun I know and love. The trailer really showed off a lot of different locations, puzzle mechanics etc. Good stuff.

The only thing I'm a bit iffy about is the touch screen controls for the psynergy powers. I hope that's either up the scratch or you can use the buttons.

Man I'm sorry, what was okay in GBA RPGs in 2001 simply isn't gonna cut it any more. The overworld psynergy looks exactly as slow as it once was, if not SLOWER, and the random battles... Golden Sun is a series that just did not age well, and it's a pretty big disappointment to see a sequel that doesn't recognize that.

The technology that powers the GBA games still impresses me, honestly. The pseudo camera effects and specials are still quite beautiful to me. Here's hoping they can capture the style now that it's in 3D. And weapons with summon specials better still be in! Really made regular attacks and weapon upgrades so much less mundane and more exciting!

GS was mostly unrealized potential, but GS2 remains one of my favorite original portable RPGs ever. If they can harness that momentum and continue it for GS3... man will the DS go out with a bang!

I hope Alex plays some kind of role. And that a remix of the Golden Sun Rises ending theme shows up in some form. Preferably during the game's intro or some such. Watching the ending events of GS2 unfold to the backdrop of that song still gives me goosebumps today, like a decade later.

I'm fine with them going 3D, the much smoother camera transitions and animations make up for the kind of blocky appearance, though I kind of like that look as well :D

Random battles are fine too, mainly because camelot generally make puzzle areas free from battles, thats when they get annoying.

Wow, seems to look better than the last trailers they showed. I am really interested in the game, but I hope they will have some new music alongside old remixed themes; after all, the music was one of the things that really made the GBA games.

And call me crazy, but - I'll spoiler it just in case - the guy that is shown at
2.05 in the video, above the trap and with the long purple hair - looks conspicously like Alex...
; perhaps that is just my imagination.

Simply Awesome!! Long live Golden Sun!! I missed you all these years :(

It was a bit let down when it was first introduced in E3 2009, regarding the change to 3D. But, after seeing the hands-on gameplay videos from E3 2010 and now this, my fear regarding that issue had been reduced greatly! I love the animations in battle, and can´t wait to see the new psynergy (in and outside battles), summons and characters in action!

Cygnus X-1: Thanks for posting the link! =)

I loved Golden Sun, it was one of the most original RPG's I've played plus it had an excellent soundtrack (sol sanctum theme <3).

The music really makes me want to replay Golden Sun 1 and 2. Shame I sold them some years back. Did they still use battery saves in the GBA cartridges? Might pick them up again.

*drool*

Definitely looks better than at E3, especially the overworld character models. Can't wait until we get more info on the characters/story.

Loved Golden Sun. Missing the sprites but oh well. Random battles? Ew. I hate hate random battles. Screws up the flow of exploration. Still looking forward to it though.

eh, sounds like you've grown out of the traditional JRPG formula? I still love games like this. Day one purchase.

Are they aiming for a WW release or is NA/EU gonna be stuck in the cold for months?

Not sure about Europe but it's due out this holiday in the states. At least, that's what Nintendo was saying during E3.

YES YES YES YES YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS ALL OVER MY FACE <3

I'm just happy the focus of the trailer was mostly on the quirky puzzle solving, which is by far the best part of the franchise.

Looks and sounds good. I'll need something new after I finally bleed Dragon Quest, Y's, and Persona dry.

The art style is really reminding me of Cross Treasures which Square still hasn't bothered to translate.
