New GTA V screens: BUSINESS. [Back in a few weeks]

So this is making the rounds:

Leaked screenshots which feature unbelievable release dates are always a little on the dodgy side. Why are they always blurry and low res? When was the last time you saw a computer do a screen grab and then apply a Vaseline-like filter over the top? Answers on a postcard to the usual address, please.

Back on topic, according to a blurry shot posted online by Gameranx - who, it should be pointed out, warn readers to not get their hopes up - Rockstar's long-awaited Grand Theft Auto V is due to launch before the end of the year - Q4, 2012, to be exact.

Given the lack of information on the game so far, we'd say this is about as likely as McDonald's adopting an all-vegetarian menu tomorrow, but there you go.

The screenshot in question is replicated below. Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.

Link. Here's the image itself. Worth noting this seems to be from the game's page on the Rockstar website (if that info was there, it's not anymore).

You're like way late with that bogus ass image. No one's biting on that sites bullshit.

And way to bump the thread at the absolute worst time too.

*You might want to skip my post if you haven't seen Heat (1995) or read the "Project: RUSH" character leaks.*
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ever since Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, I've noticed Rockstar's or should I say, the Houser's overwhelming fascination with the movie "Heat", directed by Michael Mann.
The movie is set in Los Angeles and follows a small crew as they rip off armored cars, money launderers, mineral companies, and most famously -- banks.

The early influence of "Heat" in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City where a small crew robs a bank in a mission called "The Job". Each specific crew member has his specific strength.
The similarities don't end there. There's a hothead who gets the crew into trouble by prematurely shooting someone in Vice City's case Phil vs. Waingrove in "Heat".
In both the cases of Vice City and "Heat", the driver dies, in the former's case it's the plump redhead Hilary King and in the latter's case it's the ex-con turned straight named Donald.

And in the finale of the film, the crew rips off a bank only to have the situation go awry. This is similarly mirrored in the Grand Theft Auto universe in Rockstar's latest entry into the series,
Grand Theft Auto IV when Niko and his crew rob the Bank of Liberty in the mission "Three Leaf Clover" which is copied from "Heat", down to the M4's and the nice suits.

So considering Rockstar's fascination of the film, I wasn't surprised to see Heat's influence in their upcoming game, Grand Theft Auto V. While I don't think the comparisons will be 1:1,
I think as of now, considerable references and similarities remain. For starters, the diamond heist above shows a crew working in unison and the game takes place in a fictional Los Angeles (Los Santos).

Both of the main characters, Neil McCauley from "Heat", played by Robert DeNiro and the rumored "Alberto DeSilva", played by Ned Luke, are calculating professionals who leads their crew intelligently.
Neither character are simply along for the ride, they're both in direct control and ready to do their job, their way. The character's dress and appearance are even pretty similar, although Luke lacks DeNiro's facial hair and New York accent.

Tom Sizemore (who played Sonny Forelli in Vice City) is another complementary player in DeNiro's crew and him and him and this character seemed to have a lot of visual similarities
(chubby build, rugged face/facial hair, short hair, etc.). His character in Heat was more of a tough guy whereas Kilmer's character was a drunk with a gambling problem, so they may have swapped some personality traits here.

This is the first large stretch because as you can see, this gentlemen is not Val Kilmer. He's black whereas Kilmer is white and has short hair whereas Kilmer looks like he's doing his best Axl Rose impression.
Still he's not the driver and he's along for jobs, so that means he's more similar to Kilmer's role in the crew than his looks are.

The character of Donald in "Heat" was an ex-con just trying to live straight for a change (much like our Ned Luke character, ironically enough) but the life just pulled him back in.
While they don't share a lot of visual similarities, they both are on the police's bad side. One being an ex-con and the other being a (future?) con. I pegged this guy for the driver although it's anyone's guess.

The last similarity is the most direct comparison to "Heat" that I think you can logically make. In Mann's film, the character's name is Kelso (no Aston Kutcher pictures, please).
He provides Neil (DeNiro) with valuable information about potential heists in exchange for a profit. As you can tell from the picture above, he's wheelchair bound, so he can't do the heists himself.
Rather he outsources his information to a crew for a small cut. This would be a start of the "bold new direction" that Rockstar promised fans with Grand Theft Auto V - instead of working for loud,
obnoxious mob bosses perhaps you're working with good natured people like Kelso -- or Jerry as they call him in GTA V.
I wanna know who is going to take the role of Pacino?

It still doesn't mean that the game was delayed. It doesn't even have a target window for release yet, so how can a game with no release date be delayed?

oh god...

They have development milestones and planned release windows internally, if they have problems and miss some of milestones the release date is delayed.

The fact that we don't know a release date doesn't mean that the game hasn't been delayed.
From a T2 point of view, for example, the game could have been delayed.

But how do you know that it was delayed? You said "damn it. I hate delays" but maybe GTA V was always supposed to be a 2013 game.

it's just above you:

If you announce a game and you become silent for 8 months, it means that something happened.
<-- this is my interpretation

GTA V was never supposed to be a 201X game. in november a 2012 release was most likely, after the 8 months of nothing things changed. They never said anything about the release date.

Exactly. For the past couple years R* has released games in the April - May window. So actually if it comes out around then next year it should be right on schedule. I think a lot of people got there hopes up for this October release that was never going to happen.

Pff, right November 2012. Yea it's Grand Theft Auto but do you really think that Take 2 is going to put their money maker in the fray with Assassins Creed 3, Halo 4 and Black OPs 2 all releasing in successive weeks (my poor wallet)? If you haven't noticed, they have been making major releases happen in April/May because it is such a barren time for new releases so they can easily get the most publicity.

I've never bought into this. If you go back and look at all of R*'s releases going all the way back the beginning in 1998, they've pretty much always gone back and forth between April/May and October. When you look at the big picture it just looks like they're way overdue for their next Oct. release.

That said, I finally gave up hoping for GTA V Oct. 2012 months ago. It's all about Oct. 2013, baby.

I doubt that Rockstar even considers games like Assassins Creed 3, Halo 4 and Black OPs 2 when they're discussing when to release GTA V. The game could release on the same day as any of these and the sales would be absolutely fine, as would any of those games. They're all going to sell like crazy. If a game like Skyrim could release on a Friday, I'm sure GTA V could release any day of the week if it absolutely needed a day to itself. Maybe even 12-12-12, not likely, I'm just saying.

I believe the release has to do more with polishing up the game and ensuring that the DLC doesn't take as long as TLaD and TBoGT did. Rockstar mentioned after the GTA IV DLC took so long that they wanted to release DLC much closer to the game so it could ride off the vanilla game's marketing. GTA IV was one of the most polished games I ever played. I'm expecting V to be even more polished.

I still have a tiny bit of hope for a 2012 release, but 2013 seems the most logical. My wife is due in March so I pray it's out before then.

aside from perhaps some animations, behind the scenes code, etc, do you think they'll copy/paste anything from gta4? like ambient sounds, idle street chatter, textures, etc?
