New GTA V screens: Leisure

No. I'll take atmosphere over your LOLJETPACK.

It doesn't need a jetpack, it just needs something fun to do. Hunting and horseshoes is "please hang me now to end this torture" level of fun and Mafia 2 I'm pretty sure was completely empty outside of the main story. I think it had some token open world car delivery mini game but that's it.

Atmosphere is just some vapid bullshit to make people think they're in some kind of different world than reality. Gameplay > that dumb stuff.

So Good. I also wonder if you can actually play tennis. I always thought Rockstar could do better with their GTA minigames, not that they're bad. I just hope the gunplay takes another step up in this game.

One step closer to that life simulator that I am dreaming about.

You could spend your time cropping screens for a virtual message board. ¯\_( ・_・)_/¯

"DEM VIRTUAL TREES"

Why is people complaining about the friends stuff in IV? 99% of it was optional.

Edit: couldn't you even turn their phone calls of in the options menu or something too?

Of course... as I said, I'm just talking about having a walk... which I enjoyed most in Mafia II :P

But didn't it take about five minutes before you realised eveything you just saw and experienced on this one block, is pretty much everything you're going to see and experience?

Mafia 2 should get a special award for the most criminally underused open world of all time. There was a legendary game in there, but they didn't bother to make it.

I'll take both.

Sure so would I in a perfect world but these types of games seem to be moving much further in one direction than even trying to stay in the middle. If it wasn't for games like Just Cause 2, Sleeping Dogs and the Saints Row games (which suck anyway) there wouldn't be much fun-focused games left.

It's a shame then, that R* fail even in this regard with their hokey story and poorly written characters which all but destroy any attempts made to create an interesting or immersive atmosphere.

Anyway, regarding those shots, not sure what to think really. It's nice to see dirt-bikes but the rest - eh.

I only hope they don't turn them into forced mini games where you have to play them every so often with your 'friends' to keep them happy like GTA4 and the absolutely shitty friends mechanic.

Not really, i enjoyed SotC exploration even though it was the very definition of empty, exactly because of its atmosphere.
When i spend my time with entertainment i expect to be entertained, but that can come from very different sources.
I love RDR and Saint's Row 3 both, but for very different reasons.

Sleeping Dogs has a good atmosphere, no whacky stuff, yet it's also fun to play, for example.

I find Sleeping Dogs very atmoshperic. The night market is beautiful to look at and well designed for example.

Well, at least one city in the game will be called San Andreas that's for sure, so they are certainly looking to bring back and advance the old one.

What? San Andreas is not a city, it's the state in which Los Santos, San Fierro and Las Venturas are, as established by GTA:SA. The only city we know is in this game is Los Santos. So the game will take place in the state of San Andreas, yes, but how you came to the conclusion that there will be a city called that I can't fathom. There won't be.

Game is going to be glorious.

The one thing that GTA nails more than any other similar game is the atmopshere. I don't know about you but I can just cruise around all day in GTA because it feels like a real world, which is one of the big appeals of the series for me. Would love to have taxi, ambulance, ice cream, etc missions back.

Because they would call and call and call. Ugh. The only way to get it to stop was to put the game on sleep mode, but you couldn't continue the story then. It was just fantastic making tight maneuvers with your car when suddenly your phone pops up. Your controls go unresponsive because you clicked yourself into the 'phone menu' leading to a crash, ejection through windshield, and shot by police. Redo the whole mission.

It's also a fun game though IMO I would like to see a lot more side content. It was kind of light on that but it still had a solid amount.

Sort of seems like a downgrade from the environments in Red Dead, but that's probably because Red Dead didn't have much out in the world so what was there could be better detailed. Granted the motorcycle guys do lack as solid of detail in their clothes as John Marston did for example.

GTA is definitely more about the gameplay and story experience, but I'm by no means blown away by any of the screens I've seen of the game yet.

What are you trying to achieve here?

Trying to get people banned/trying to get banned yourself? I don´t get it.

Everything you´ve said in the past 3 days just seems to be an attempt to piss people off.

Relax.

That's what I want from a game... and that's why I enjoyed Heavy Rain so much. :o

With the first one, they openly promoted it as an open world game. As a GTA challenger.

Also this series is almost dead.

I don't care about PR-talk. Mafia was a linear game that took place in a sandbox and feels nothing like GTA.

Just Cause 2 was a massive improvement over the first one and generally loved, with a high probability of a third installment.

Saints row 2 and 3 also improved while finding their own identity in the open world genre.

Sleeping Dogs is doing good in sales and it got picked up by SE because they wanted a new series, but you're claiming that it will never get a sequel?

You keep going on about how these series are dying, without showing any proof that this is the case what so ever.

Nah. Maybe from the number of activities. But if we're talking about design and immersion, Mafia 2 wins the cup. Walking around in empire bay @ wintertime wasn't beaten to date... and I've played all open-world games this gen.

Driving in Times Square at night in the rain owns all for me.

From the guy in the suit and some of the screens, am thinking white collar crime getting into some more extreme crime. Could be wrong, but its the vibe am getting.

In motion the game should look better, but it looks a bit rough there.

I love how these are not bullshots. (Or non-PC screenshots)

Looks amazing, love the environments and there's so much shit to do/going on judging by these screens!

I am liking the more cartoony look of this.
GTA4s atmosphere, color and seriousness bored me to tears and I lost interest before I unlocked the second island.
This is looking a lot more fun and chirpy.

Relax.

Not trying to 'achieve' anything. I suggest that you try not to take my opinion too personally. I don't consider the GTA games to be well written, have well written characters or a good/engrossing/immersive atmosphere, so when people claim it does, I will naturally challenge such a claim.

If anyone is getting pissed off, that's on them for being unable to accept the game isn't the masterpiece they want to believe it. I can only recommend they relax and come to the realization that the game isn't the masterpiece they think it is and that is in fact a flawed game/series.

It immersed me more than any other open world story to date. Seems to have done that for many reviewers and gamers as well. You are definitely in the minority on that one.

You telling people what a game is when they believe it is something different can be infruriating. We know your opinion, as you have stated numerous times lately, so just back off and leave. You are bringing ZERO to the table at this point.

Shit this looks pretty damn good graphics wise for an open world game of this caliber. I'm actually a little hyped now. Can't wait to see the city in all it's glory.

GTA IV's story dragged on too long for my taste.

this was a common complaint. It didn't help that the world was boring so you kinda had to do the story missions. (Gay Tony was good if you haven't played that though.)

anyway, the new screens looks great. I can't wait to ride a dirt bike off that bridge and parachute down into a speed boat like Bond. /GTA

Actually, I hadn't stated my opinion on the atmosphere of the game at all and if people can't handle the fact that others don't believe what they do, well...I honestly don't know what to suggest...

And neither are you or those who claim it does have an immersive atmosphere or stellar gameplay or was mature or was good because it didn't have jetpacs or purple dildos. Those are sentiments repeated ad nauseam too, but those are fine as they fall into line with your personal opinion that GTA4 is virtually perfect and above being criticized.

Also, why are you allowed to post but others aren't, or, more accurately, shouldn't, as you don't agree with their opinion/stance?

If this doesn't take itself as seriously as GTA IV, I'll be interested in playing Keep the stupid relationships and cellphone nonsense out of my GTA!

Gotta love the GTA naysayers. Constantly talking shit in EVERY GTA thread about a game they apparently don't like. Don't like it? Don't play it, don't buy it.

I can understand a bit of healthy debate but just ripping GTAIV for the sake of it is getting old.

Sethos and Derrick need to get their own private forum or just stop arguing with each other in all of these open-world threads. You won't see eye to eye, so stop bloating this thread with your drivel.

As long as the minigames are actually fun this time around, R* should feel free to throw as many as they want in. Hold 'Em Poker was spectacular in RDR.

I don't see anyone ripping on GTA4, I do see healthy debate attempted to take place but the supporters of the game are unwilling to engage so instead claim people are trolling or ripping on the game when that's clearly not true.

Yeah, you're right, I didn't put the right term there, I've just assumed that there would be more places, in this case states, than just San Andreas in the game.

You are telling people that they are "uanble to accept that the game sucks" as if the people who enjoy it are fanboy morons. It comes across like that, no matter how you spin it.

It isn't above being criticized though; I have done that myself. It has flaws just like every game, for the most part. I don't call people out, as you did, for their opinion unless it is just blind hate. That works both ways though; blind love of it without recognizing flaws is just as bad.

I am posting because I am being reasonable here; you are calling people out for enjoying the game. I call people out when they say unreasonable shit; what you are doing is trashing people for enjoying the series.

That's not true, you can still do any mission that's on the map with your phone in sleep mode, you just won't receive calls that could progress the story or unlock new missions though.

I missed that post, but I assume it was posted in jest and not a serious post.

I'd quite like a proper debate about the atmosphere of GTA4 and the characters etc, but people won't engage and if they do, it comes back to the old 'lol dildos' or some equally nonsensical gibberish.
