New GTA V screens: Leisure

It's a shame then, that R* fail even in this regard with their hokey story and poorly written characters which all but destroy any attempts made to create an interesting or immersive atmosphere.

Not that I don't agree with you on the shitty story and all, but I'm almost laughing at the notion that this needs to be anything at all in relation to an atmosphere the game creates.

Howsabout people who never bother with the story? I hadn't touched it for days just farting around the city. Guess all that atmosphere I thought they pulled off, feeling kinda like NYC was all in my head.

I missed that post, but I assume it was posted in jest and not a serious post.

I'd quite like a proper debate about the atmosphere of GTA4 and the characters etc, but people won't engage and if they do, it comes back to the old 'lol dildos' or some equally nonsensical gibberish.

I've had a quite a few of these discussions actually, in previous threads.
It's that GTA4 debate comes out in EVERY single R* open world thread, so it can get tyring.
But ofcourse, it's a discussion board and it's fine to argue, i personally don't have a problem with that, but i also understand not wanting to repeat the same stuff in every thread.

Not I. I am down to debate GTA4 anytime although I have done it so many times already.

I don't see anyone ripping on GTA4, I do see healthy debate attempted to take place but the supporters of the game are unwilling to engage so instead claim people are trolling or ripping on the game when that's clearly not true.

Come on man, theres been several GTA related threads recently and you're in every single one talking about how badly written the story/characters are, how boring the missions are, how it was disappointing in many ways. I can understand that to an extent, but why are you so desperate to discuss it if you seemingly hated it so much?

I played Saints Row 3, and thought it was literally the worst sandbox game that I've had the misfortune of playing. I hated nearly everything about it, but I don't try and ram my opinion down the throats of those that did enjoy it.

Not only that, but these screens are alluding that many of the issues people wern't happy with are going to be addressed in GTAV. Parachutes, planes, bikes, a more rural environment, better graphics etc. I just don't understand your agenda.

You are telling people that they are "uanble to accept that the game sucks" as if the people who enjoy it are fanboy morons. It comes across like that, no matter how you spin it.

because that's how you're choosing to interpret my post. Your overly enthusiastic like for the game makes my posts, which are merely criticizing the game into something more sinister when that's clearly not the case. I'd suggest you stop reading too much into my posts and stop claiming I'm attempting to say something I'm clearly not.

It isn't above being criticized though; I have done that myself. It has flaws just like every game, for the most part. I don't call people out, as you did, for their opinion unless it is just blind hate. That works both ways though; blind love of it without recognizing flaws is just as bad.

Again, I didn't call anyone out. Sethos claimed he prefers atmosphere over jetpacs and dildos, I was posting my opinion that the game lacks in that department due to severral factors. Again, your like for the game is making you incapable of reading my posts for what they are, you're seeing things which aren't there.

I am posting because I am being reasonable here; you are calling people out for enjoying the game. I call people out when they say unreasonable shit; what you are doing is trashing people for enjoying the series.

Again, trashing people's love/like for the game isn't something I'm doing or have done from the very beginning.

If that's what you take away from my posts, I can only apologize and attempt to word my posts more accurately in future, but I would suggest that you stop reading so much into my posts and claiming I'm saying or implying things I'm clearly not. If I had something to say, I'd say it, I don't believe in finding a roundabout way of saying something or only hinting at something. I hate people who do it, bugs the hell out of me.

Anyway, I can see a few people are getting a little riled up, so I'll take my leave and hope we can discuss the finer points about GTA4 at a later date. It's a debate I'd love to have, but without all the baggage attached.

Joke or not, I sort of agree. GTA4 was good but a huge step down from Vice City and San Andreas. No one even mentions GTA4 anymore, it's always the previous two.

No one mentions GTA:IV anymore?

What has this thread, the last one about transport and the Sleeping Dogs VS GTA thread been about then?

As I saw a lot of talk about GTA:IV

What are you attempting to get at with this? You are saying that people are delusional and/or blind fanboys if they don't think the series is flawed.

You just did in the above post!!

Looking real good. I hope the minigames maybe playable in free mode. They kinda blew in single player but I could see soem of them being kinda fun if playing against real friends.

I'm just imagining what GTA:Race will be like.

Through the streets, out into the countryside and desert and back round.

They still better have the Comet in.

Overall, I'm very excited for this. From what has been shown, aside from the graphics, this is my dream GTA (assuming they kept the driving model from 4). I can't wait to test drive all the new vehicles out in the open country, off cliffs, and flying planes just chillin' for hours listening to the radio. I hope we get a bunch of little towns again and we can buy houses.

There was one little town just north of Los Santos that I always bought a house in right away and would pretend like it was mine. I would fake cut the lawn with the lawn mower and try to drive as realistically around the little town as possible while giving myself imaginary 'missions'. I had a lot of imagination back then.

Yes would be amazing to have a triathlon. Run, Swim, Bike.

With so many dynamic locations the vehicle variety is going to be amazing. Quads, Bikes, Tractors, Semis, Jetskis, airplanes ... can't wait!

NOVEMBER 23rd! I believe!

\/\/\/\/\/\/ Check a couple posts down, I posted it earlier in the thread but everybody was too busy shitting up the thread to notice, a few others did too I think. I doubt it will release then but it would be awesome.

It's like Santa Clause magic, you have to believe in order for it to work.

Would you rather chess and checkers? I'm sure they can arrange that for you, and will most likely appeal to the audience than parachuting and dirt bike racing...

A super advanced chess and checkers AI in GTAV would be awesome. Getting into an hour long battle with some old guy and losing and then shooting him.

I don't believe the Nov 23 date.. That's, what, 3 months away? Too soon for promo. I understand Take 2's investors wanting this out by Christmas, but a spring 2013 launch seems like a more reasonable window, and I doubt a game like GTA5 needs the Christmas rush to boost sales. I don't doubt that Zaavi or whoever the website is has a supplier that claims they'll be shipping on Nov 23, I just don't believe that the supplier knows what they're talking about. And some random supplier is not likely to know that information before, say, UPS. And if it's UPS, then they're not going to leak that information to Zaavi.com... some totally unknown website.

Didn't we know the release day much earlier for GTA4 though? Seems odd they wouldn't want to start drumming up hype with only a few months left.

GTA IV was initially an October release but ended up being pushed back to April. They are drumming up hype with months left until the end of November, aren't they lately? I am not sold on it launching this year but I am hoping it does.

Maybe I'm remembering this wrong but didn't they state that the release date of GTA V would depend on how well Max Payne 3 did, and as far as I remember it fell below their set expectations.

If they were aiming for a release this year, the latest they could get away with kickstarting the marketing would be right about now, I think.

Something to think about.

You are in a thread that is all about showing off the title; a new trailer by the end of the week would make a November release more likely to me.

GTAIV's October 2007 release date was first announced in May of 2006 almost a full year and a half earlier. I'd love for a Nov 2012 release date, but right now, they're getting dangerously close to missing Spring 2013 (The Spring 2008 announcement for GTAIV was made in August of 2007)

I believe those were the Pachters of the world, guessing that GTAV would get an early release if Max Payne did poorly. That coincided with Bioshock ifinite being pushed back (another Take 2 published title)

Even if they release a new trailer tomorrow, that's a very, very aggressive cycle. The most aggressive cycle for any popular game I've ever heard of, and something completely unheard of from Rockstar -- which gives plenty of lead time and tons of media for their games. So far, I think we have 9 screen shots and 1 trailer. Obviously Rockstar had to sell RDR differently, what with it not having the name sake of GTA, but they did those awesome ~10 min documentary type videos for RDR which were hugely popular. So far, we've seen none of that for GTA.

I also still think it's just crazy that a "supplier" would have this information and they'd lleak it to a completely unknown website.

At this point, we're all making assumptions based on the past.

For all we know, Rockstar has kept silent to build up hype, I really don't see GTA V not coming out by next Spring or maybe earlier.

Not all marketing needs to be the same, maybe a different approach will yield even better results.

If anyone can pull off a quick marketing blitz and release I believe that Rockstar could do it.

Most definitely. If we don't get a trailer soon then I'd say hope for a 2012 release is pretty dead.

I'm just saying that if they wanted to release this year, they'd have to get the gears moving. This is a sign of that, but if there aren't more signs, then it means nothing.

If we had to make assumptions based on past, October ( or around there ) would be the most logical.

The original Grand Theft Auto first released in Europe in October '97. Grand Theft Auto 2 released on Windows and PlayStation in September and October of '99. Grand Theft Auto III launched on the PlayStation 2 on October 22nd, 2001. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City followed suit a year later, releasing on October 27th, 2002. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas furthered this trend by releasing October 26th, 2004. Even Grand Theft Auto Advance for the GBA released October 25th, 2004. PSP off-shoot Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories released on October 24th, 2005. The following year, Rockstar Games released Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories for the PSP on October 31st, 2006.

GTA IV being the odd one out.

Right, I agree. I was thinking that if they wanted to have an effective marketing strategy, they would want people to choose GTA5 over all the other November releases. However, upon just looking at the list it seems Halo4 and COD are the only real competitors. Games that people will buy no matter what. So, maybe that lends credibility to a later marketing strategy.

I don't know if this was posted in this thread or the other thread but:

http://www.gameranx.com/updates/id/8734/article/gta-5-release-date-leaked-by-zavvi-com-report/

November 23 For European/Pal and I would guess November 20th for the U.S.

For those that don't click the link, Zavvi.com has GTA V's launch date as November 23rd.

Yeah, that story is rubbish. The release date is only there because zavvi can't take pre-orders without one, so it's just outdated guesswork.

Slow news day.

I'm sorta in that grouping that believes that GTA V will come out October or November. I would've made a point that before GTA IV Rockstar likes to release things in October, but then people would just post the list of current gen Rockstar game release dates.

"I can confirm that this is the release date forwarded by our supplier," said a spokesperson for Zavvi to Eurogamer PT.

I don't see how that's guesswork, to each his own.

It's not really a "totally unknown website" ... it's a decently sized online retailer, just not in the US.

GTA IV was supposed to release in October and got pushed. Since it was a new console and new engine they probably had a lot of unsuspected issues to iron out. With one game under their belt and understanding the tech better it probably isn't so much of an issue.

Plus, I like hoping. It keeps me happy.
