"New" Heavenly Sword (direct feed from E3) pics

Will music be dynamic?

That, at least, we can answer now - apparently yes, the music changes depending on what you're doing on screen. From what I recall of the video of the E3 presentation, the music is quite excellent, very orchestral.

I don't know about "schooling" other developers. You gotta remember that this is still primarily one rather small demo in a closed arena, along with one cutscene.

But I will say that I'm still really really impressed with the animation that they have going on in both of the cutscene and arena demo. They really do look seamless, fluid, and dispite the exaggerated and supernatural moves, natural.

But we haven't seen any other populated levels. Don't know whether the enemies are going to be just sword fodder, or if they actually put up a decent fight. How well will you be able to interact with environments outside of the arena? Will levels be destructable? Will music be dynamic? What will the difficulty level be? Does the heroine develop more abilities as you progress through the game, or is she stuck with the same moves throughout the game?

Don't get me wrong - this is THE game that I'm interested in for the PS3. But to say that the guys who's only other memorable title is Kung Fu Chaos is zomgpownzord other developers is a bit premature...

Purely speaking visually. Coming out of E3'05 and one of the impressive looking vids in a slew of questionably CGI vids....but the relative areas so far has shown not only they matched it, but surpassed it and showing a incredible amazing focus on animation too and dynamic movement with hair and cloth physics. The only devs to go past the crap "target render" phase. The devs themselves even had to clear up if it's CGI or not and now we know the answer. That's why I'm super impressed and giving more faith of the other areas.

With them coming out something like Kung Fu Chaos it actually makes it all the more mindboggling in a way they already have one of the best looking games yet to come amongst all the big boy devs.

Woah, I wasn't too excited about it before... But the animations in those gifs are excellent, as Wollan said it, the feeling of weight is unmatched.

The game doesn't sell me the PS3, but if I pick up a PS3 I'll grab this game.

The animation for me is what pulld this game ahead of other great looking games like Gears of War, Rainbow 6, etc... It's just brings it up to the next level IMO

*yawn*

The pics look nice and all, but I'm tired of the same damn shots over and over. Changing the resolution isn't doing it for me. This game looked awesome from day 1, one of the very few next-gen games that can claim that. But enough is enough. I think we're all ready for the visual assault this game is going to deliver. And if the prophet is correct and there's a bucket of blood added to this game, then g-g-g-goddamn I can't wait. Oh wait...I have to wait anyway. :lol PEACE.

Is it just me, or does she instantly change directions twice (she instantly turns backwards when she backflips, then as she is coming down on the final slash, she's facing the other again)?

I don't know, let's analyse it frame by frame and then see if we can determine the size of the texture maps as well.

Yeah, I'm just aching for new area shots. It looks amazing, now let's see how amazing it goes.

this is what 30fps can bring to the graphics department

the animations and moves are so complex looking i have a feeling it might be repeated buttom mashing that makes you do cool random stuff?. hope not! cant wait for TGS build

Does anyone know if the game is basically going to be a beat em up in enclosed static environments? Or is this more like an free roaming action-platformer like God of War?

Neither. It's not a platformer, its a flat out beat um up. But they aren't going for a full on DW type game or GoW, it's a balance between them. You have huge battles like DW in some stages and others are smaller battles like the one you saw at E3.

So the game is a straight beat-em up then? Unlike God of War?

GoW is story focused and features alot of platforming. GoW is straight fighting more in the style of something like Streets of Rage where all you do is fight. You aren't making platform jumps or anything.

What the hell does he mean when he says it's a straight beat em' up? What, no story, no cutscenes, no puzzles etc. etc.

This game's renderer is one of the best I've seen of any next-gen game, NT really created something special. If anything, these high-res screens show the modeling to be low-poly and average, but the shaders and lighting they're got [parallax floors, the beautiful soft, shadows, subtle hdr and dof, the skin... look at her bellybutton!] looks incredible. If I was getting a PS3, this would be my number one most anticipated game.

seriously that looks like a ****in cg movie.

next-gen is so weird... I'm not impressed with many screenshots at all but when you finally see them in motion its like OMGWTFBBQ.

It's basically the opposite of previous gens where often times screens would actually look better than seeings games in motion. With next gen games and all the lighting tricks, animation ect. being used its very important to see them in motion.

There is no other game to compare it to yet..maybe Too Human :lol so it is easily the best looking game i've seen in motion for an action game.

Man, the way the camera zooms in and out really adds to this... This is one incredible looking game... may just be the prettiest next-gen game in motion yet...

Daaaaammnn! DMC4 has some pretty stiff new competition here!

And that's why they are both my most anticipated games right now!

Cool camerawork, but I hope it's not too disorienting.

it's like God of War, you're not playing while that's going on. You set up the combo, then it does its thing, then the camera goes back when the characters done doing something pretty.

yup, the camera, the lighting, & the animation really are top notch for next-gen so far.

I honestly don't see what the hype is all about. Graphics look good, but nothing special. There are tons of other games that look just as good.

What a lot of people (at least me) get hyped up about is the art style, setting, animation and voicework (Andy Serkis!). It's not only about the technical graphics, but art style makes it beautiful...which is more important for me. More and more I'm feeling this is going to sell me on the PS3.

Thanks Vark!

Just no :o

Yeah I preordered this game yesterday. In fact, I am going to wait until the summer to buy the PS3 just so this can be the first game I play on the PS3:) .

I definitely don't agree. The lighting makes the whole scene look washed out, overexposed. Like when you surface in a swimming pool after getting your eyeballs coated with chlorine.

The belly is nice.

The game is quite probably the only one that has told us the full truth regarding its looks...I remember reading in the Edge - June 2006 they have implemented a system called ChatterBox which makes enemies react when some of them are beat.
Each enemy has a friend that when is beat makes the enemy react against you in different ways...

And then there is the fact that they spend a SPE just for hair animation...Kinda stupid if you ask me but makes the game look awesome.

I thought it was both hair, and cloth physics.

It's the June Edition...Dunno perhaps they calmed down since June :P Jejeje But well, it's not she is wearing a lot of clothes... :lol :lol :lol

Edge did indeed report that, but I believe one of the developers on their official board confirmed that the SPE was also being used for other soft dynamics, like clothes etc.

well I figured it was for all characters (her and the enemies).

and I dont think its using the whole SPE.

We have a single SPU dedicated to procedural systems. Primarily this is the hair but it also includes the cloth systems as well. So the hair isn't using all the power of a single SPU, apologies if the article came off that way. We're only just scratching the surface of what we can do here so I'm sure it will only get better
