New Heavy Rain Images

Since Hunter D keeps harping on AI, physics and how many characters will be on the screen, I decided to dig up a Heavy Rain interview

IGN: With that kind of detail on individual characters, how many people can we expect to see populating an environment at once?

Cage: We currently work on massive crowds with a high level of realism, so we plan to have a lot of populated environments in the game. All characters will have this level of quality but we will use techniques like LOD (level of details depending on the distance) to focus the resources on what the player can really see.

IGN: What sort of improvements to the adventure-style gameplay system are using to take advantage of next-gen technology?

Cage: Indigo Prophecy already brought a lot of new features to the traditional adventure genre, including the Action system, MultiView, Bending Stories, etc. Heavy Rain will include features like advanced physics and AI, realistic characters and living environments. We have done a lot of analysis to see what worked and what didn't on Indigo Prophecy (I wrote a lengthy post-mortem that will soon be published by Developer Magazine) and we intend to raise the bar in terms of user experience in Heavy Rain.

IGN: How interactive do you plan on making the environments?

Cage:All environments will be fully interactive.

This puzzles me. In the end, this is a game that you won't be able to play since judging from your profile, you don't even have a PS3. So why get yourself worked up over it, trying to convince others who are excited about it that it's not worth it?
I not trying to convince anyone its not worth it. I'm saying its an adventure game of course it is going to look good. The problem I have with this thread is homers saying this game looks better than crysis which just bull. I really have no problem with this thread just the homers that started trolling crysis with shots that have either have more aa than the game will have when shipped or are shots from the game being rendered at a high res.

I see it more as an interactive improvisation play. Because I don't know shit about it and that pretty much describes any game with a story.

The article is two years old. Back then snake was supposed to have more polygons in his mustache than a MGS3 character and the game was rendered in 1080p, GOW had a GDI lighting system, sony said every game would be rendered in 1080p, Too Human had 4 player coop, and microsoft said that we would be seeing a lot of games with 360/pc cross platform play.

This game was also multiplatform and a lot of people thought the characters face was off in the trailer.

IN THE YEAR 2000!

They were never actually developing the game for other systems. The Casting demo was built specifically for the PS3.

Anyway, the point of m post was to show that they're planning for Heavy Rain doesn't match what you're trying to describe it as. It's much more ambitious than your average point and click game. As it should be.

Hunter D said:
I have played Indigo Prophecy. Its a point and click game. Qauntic Dreams makes PnC adventure games. If IP isn't a PnC then what is it?

Huh? Point and click games are like Myst and Broken Sword etc.

Anyway, the screens look great graphically, and as a fan of Fahrenheit i'm really looking forward to Heavy Rain.

What is the interview some are referring to? Is it the Gamasutra interview?

Hunter, what the crap man. Are you ok?

How long has this game been in development? Did they say it won't feature those crowds, physics, and AI anymore? Did they change their whole direction of the game to not include what was said in SolidSnakex's quoted post? Enlighten us instead of calling the info too old and obsolete. This is why people may be finding fault in your posts. Clear things up, straighten things out, show proof, etc.

It don't matter if you say the color of the sky is a stupid choice, as long as you explain why. (example)

So we shouldn't believe the developer because this interview is old but we should believe you because?....

Please do tell. How is any of the negative crap you've spouted anything but troll/hater claims based purely on assumption and guess work?

You nor any of us have any idea what the game will actually play like, or what the AI will be like, how many characters there will be on screen etc. Well, that's a lie, we have a vague idea based on the interview above, whereas everything you said (which is the opposite of what the developer said) is pure speculative bullshit.

It's been in development since '06. As far as your other questions, as recently as March of this year they reconfirmed that the game would feature areas that are heavily populated.

I don't want to do a big free-roaming city like GTA, because the flow of the story will then be hard to control. Nevertheless, I do want to incorporate big sets, with a crowd, heavy populated areas like a mall and a subway are going to be in there. Of course, the gameplay has got to make use of that aspect too.

They definitely haven't backed off.

Hunter reminds me of that episode of The Simpsons with the cat burglar, where they wind up digging themselves straight down into a hole 20 feet beneath ground level, and Homer's solution is to "dig our way out!".

Anyway, pretty pictures. They damn well better be showing this off extensively in 2 weeks though, I'm sick of them hinting at a big unveiling that never seems to come to fruition.

Unless this game is coming out within the next six months, I expect Sony to show a trailer and send us off on our merry way.

The stupidity of some of the posters in this thread is what surprised me. If this was a multiplatform game some of these posters wouldn't be in this thread.

I bet I can name one :)

jk, you'd be in here anyway 'cause this game looks pretty amazing.

HOLY CRAP. No console game will ever match that in a long time! :lol

In terms of detail, its not possible. Besides the fact its running at a higher resolution than the current consoles can do, the amount of RAM used for texturing is insane. No way a console can keep that level of detail across the entire scene.

The only thing that has a chance to maintain that consitency (albiet at a lower resolution) would be if the Rage engine is fully utilized.

DAMN,the graphics of a game which we dont know what it will look like in motion or play like brought 1000 + posts. GAF never fails to amaze.

Dude, we had longer threads without screenshots. :p

Pretty much.

Everyone realizes that this game will look 5 times better when we see it in motion right?

I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE:lol

Only problem is, the onus of doubt is on YOU, not the game, nor the developer, as there is

Z
E
R
O

evidence HR will be "a point and click game that will have a slow pace and will be judged mainly on its plot, puzzles, and music."

That said, if you actually have evidence to back up your, IMO, baseless claims I am all ears:D

depends on the animation, but yeah, probably.
Judging from the facial animation video and the fact that they are using the same mo-cap setup as the folks from Uncharted. I'd say animation shouldn't even be worried about.

Also holy shit at the amount of trolls in this thread insist on bashing/downplaying the game. What the hell is wrong with you? Don't like the game, one post is enough, move on with your life...

yeah, i hope there are lots of stacked animations so the movement will match the realistic looks.

I don't know why people are hype over a point and click game. Of course this type of game is going to look great. There isn't 6+ ai enemies gunning for you in destructible environments with a physics engine running.

These are bullshots anyways. These shoots have either high aa or were taken at a high res and then resized.

So what are you doing here? Some hype control? Pathetic.

Some people like the screenshots, get on with your life.

Why's that? In stills it looks pretty much the best thing in consoles where human-modelling goes. So I'm guessing it can't look as convincing in motion. MGS4 suffered from this a bit too where the models where great but the animation/lip-sync were sometimes off/clunky.

Still I can't believe people are arguing about graphics when it obviously looks fantastic :lol

I just want confirmation that the Indigo Prophecy writers are locked up.

Actually, I think this could be where we all end up being most surprised. Their animation was pretty much spot on in both of their tech demos (especially the eyeball one). I expect great things.

Though, certainly that expectation is NOT based on Indigo Prophecy's animation. Oh boy.

Anyway, I think people in this thread should just wait for a gameplay demo before they start shitting their pants. But, look, it's pretty clear that we're going to see a LOT of Indigo Prophecy in this game, in terms of how it actually plays.

I think some of the statements Cage and N'Gai have made pretty much imply it plays at least similarly.

So after all WE KNOW ABSOLUTELY -NOTHING- ABOUT THE GAME!! NOTHING!!
We saw about... 5 screenshots... and that's it!
And after all, we have some jerks here, complaining about lack of action, lack of AI, shitty gameplay?
Damn, it must be the "it's a SONY/PS3-Exclusive" problem, huh?
WTF?!?!?! These haters, trolls (fan...) gettin' rediculous!
STFU already

Exactly, maybe we shouldn't get too worked up either way. I want this game to be awesome, but at this point I have the same feeling towards this as I have towards FFXIII. I wanna see more until I start the insane hype train.

At least now it has a worthy competitor.

Let's wait and see more before we go that far... As much as I think this look great, it's still quite a ways effects wise from what Killzone 2 is pushing. I'm just hoping for a great story/character driven game with atmospheric settings, realistic characters and animations, etc..

Another mini-meltdown.

I think it's not supposed to go into the direction of Killzone 2 effects wise... you know. The forte of this game will probably lie in story, atmosphere, characters and maybe even physics(interaction with the surroundings) and not something like the last third of Fahrenheit with supernatural over-the-top things full of effects or anything like that.

Anyway the screens look good and hopefully we'll see it in motion and gameplay soon at GC.
