New Heavy Rain. Screens. Skin.

I like adventure games. I have a copy of Fahrenheit. But it's not a mainstream genre anymore, and the way to make it one again is not to hype up the graphics. That'll just tempt people into buying without knowing what the gameplay is like, hating it because it's not Halo, and then complaining about it on forums.

Good graphics are wonderful, but hyping them up without mentioning gameplay is a way of tricking people into buying games, and that never works in the long run.

With that mentality, we'll have nothing but FPS games. :/

Really? Where did you hear that?

It's in the page before this one. Obviously it's hyperbole bullshit people.

But i get it, hype hype hype

Edit: I think i get what the Dev means, is that the animation will simply look "right" and not weird. Obviously you won't be seeing 3d models like this

animating, it's just that the animation will look amazing, and i'm dying to see it.

Uncanny valley is a bit of an impossible thing to overcome, though, because the mere knowledge that something is artificial would be enough to disturb some people in their interaction with, or in attempting to interact with it as if it were human - even if it looked practically perfect. It also can be a fairly subjective thing.

What one might hope for from Heavy Rain is if it presents something that matches or exceeds the state of the art in realtime human representations.

Not even near. You wouldn't fool me with that. You can see it's not mother nature that made this because of the hairs and skin most importantly.

Lol, now that you mention it, I can't stop staring at her hair... definitely breaks the illusion.

wow... you come off as disagreeing with this just to disagree...

and when I state "this beats UV" it was an exaggeration in comparison to the heavy rain stills

EDIT: to top it off the skin doesn't look any different then the constantly air brushed supermodels society is fed everyday.

Hindsight bias. If nobody told you it was fake, then you'd probably never notice.

The picture of that guy above made by Pyotr Wysocki looks more natural than 90% of the airbrushed photos you see in the fashion magazines. I actually almost can't believe that picture is a render.

The skin is more evident in a bigger picture. There's a way bigger pic of that CG.
Anyways, if you look at the big picture there's an unnatural feeling with pretty much every aspect.
Thing is, this CG is extremely good. With great animation it could fool most people. I just can tell you that i personally will not be fooled anytime soon.

I doubt it. I saw this picture (in a bigger version) awhile ago and the person showing it to me asked me what i thought. I said "holyshit, that's the best CG i've ever seen".

All this is just a question of observation. Some people are better at it than others. The better you are at observation the harder it will be to fool you with things like that.

the point I was trying to get across originally was that it is extremely good, but there is no fooling Ranger X's keen eyes ;p

There's a downside to all this. I've never seen someone look better with colored lenses, i don't really like some types of make-up and fake boobies do nothing for me except feeling unnatural and wierd. :(

That picture of an Asian girl is not even that good anymore... Piotr's fashion dude from above is the one to compare everything against now.

hows that a bad thing...

Well, it's not really a bad thing and my girlfriend isn't using any of that. It's just that sometimes i feel like girls in our society are getting more and more artificial in look and the media are trying to make us think it looks better.

Interesting but off-topic i guess ;)

what you say is true but natural is better, one reason I won't become a plastic surgeon.

Pretty good, but not as good as the Fashion Guy™
It's way much better than the fashion guy. Fashion guy is only partial. And a small part. This is full model .
Fashion guy is cheating everywhere.

You mean to tell me this doesn't look natural?

The girl up here is (much) better done than this.More with the fact that Piotr took an easy road here, ligthing conditions wise(+photoshop).

This is great. The hair is extremely well done. Skin too.
It's getting near the point where you would need animation to not get fooled (at least for most people). The face is still wierd somehow and sadly the tatoo is totally giving it away.

I agree the tattoo is totally fake here, but the hair is very impressive.

Here's a test for you, Ranger X: is this picture (click for larger) a photo or a 3D render?

so you think the zimmerman pick looks more realistic than the girl:/

Some aspects of it might not be but in overall i prefer the guy. I didn't see a huge picture of it though. I can't swallow the girl's hair. On the other side the tattoo is giving the other guy away.

Interesting pic. It's a real photo but there might be photoshop on it. It's very hard to tell sometimes with objects. That bottle could be a very well done 3D one and the paper on the guy kinda look wierd.

I came here to see the amazing pics but then I saw Metal Murphys comment and got depressed.

Anyway, those close-up shots are pretty cool. Fahrenheit was 4/5 awesome game and 1/5 good one. Gameplay was original, athmosphere and story kicked ass and it had some nice tunes too.

Of course, it's a trick question. It's neither a photo, Photoshopped, nor a 3D render. It's a painting.

Human eyes--yes, even yours--can be fooled.

Amazing, but now that you've said it, I can see "it" around the bottle he's holding and his fingers there etc.

I'm guessing it's easier with a higher resolution pic of it too ;)

But goes to what I was saying earlier..when you KNOW something isn't artificial, you'll see the flaws, or not feel totally comfortable with accepting it as real, or whatever. That'll always be a problem to one degree or another.

I don't know how much he 'shopped, but if real life fashion models get to have that treatment, CG models can use it too, no?

I'm pretty much 100% positive this picture would fool anyone who sees it, and that's all that matters.

Are you shitting me? Do you have a bigger version of this, or the name of the painting?
