New John Carmack Interview?

before anybody misquotes the man and screams bias,

JC: They are both powerful systems that are going to make excellent game platforms, but I have a bit of a preference for the 360’s symmetric CPU architecture and excellent development tools. The PS3 will have a bit more peak power, but it will be easier to exploit the available power on the 360. Our next major title is being focused towards simultaneous release on 360, PS3, and PC.

But he IS biased. Against Nintendo. :P
Not his fault, though.

I do wish they would have asked something about the Rev in there.

let me guess the name Doom 4

What does he say about the Revolution?

It's good to be back

On G4 awhile ago he said id was looking into the Revolution, like the other systems. The other guys from id seemed pretty skeptical about it though. Oh well.

It says something about GAF when a Carmack interview thread that doesn't say anything about Nintendo or Revolution (and without much reason to) would see half of its posts mentioning the lack of Revolution comment.

Juice: why's that? Now realizing that GAF is home to more than just jaded PS, XB, and PC gamers?

I'm deeply interested in what type of game id would create if they developed for the Revolution...saddened to see no mention in the interview

I don't think so. I don't know about the whole ID team, but I'm quite sure Carmack in working on that game's engine. At least that's how I understood it when they announced the game at X05.

Carmack is definitely working on X360 ATM - I just don't think that game is Wolfeinstein; we shall see soon.

There's a shit hot interview with Carmack it Kikizo too. I can;t be arsed linking it, but one of the other guys can feel free to jump in. It's at the top of the page.

Carmack has to be working on a new engine, doom 3 is LONG in the TOOTH already.

cmon give us something other than UE3 next gen JOHN!

Games based off id properties (includes Wolfenstein) are always created using Carmack's engines even when developed by outside companies (ala Raven doing Quake 4 with the DOOM 3 engine).

Yeah, even though DOOM 3 just came out in '04, they've been showing the tech for it for ages and it does seem old now. I highly doubt that what Carmack puts out next will be on the same level as anything else currently on the market (including UE3).

he has actually started writing a new engine about 1 year before doom3 even shipped. he was talking about how he wants to take lighting one step further then what they did with doom3. he described having one source of light reflect off everything from a lamp shade to even your character models. this is all i can recall from an interview he did shortly after doom3 shipped.

Carmack does not dislike Nintendo, afaik he praised the Nintendo 64 hardware (very advanced multitexturing for the time) and he had a NES at work. He even made a little Mario game to test his platforming engine.

that would be ' dangerous dave in "copyright infringement" '.
