New Kanye song "Only One"

i think i've liked one or two rap/hip-hop songs ive ever heard, thats worse than any other genre for me, so in my opinion it is the worst genre.

Is it that hard to understand why i feel its the worst or one of the worst genres? do i have to go through my reasons again?
- Lyrics
- Vocals
- Instrumentation

i find all of those to be borderline trash in rap/hip-hop.
Lyrics is hit and miss, but thats with every genre. I prefer guitar, and drums to electronics. I prefer good, talented, beautiful singing and screaming instead of rapping and auto tune. I prefer lyrics that are written from the heart (kanye and eminem have pretty okay lyrics considering), to lyrics about "bitches", money, cars, clubs, dancing, sex, drugs and just pure violence.

Lyrics like that are beautiful to me, but I always resonate with them because thats how my life was like in school. So I like lyrics I can relate to as well. I don't smoke pot, do drugs, party, "fuck bitches" and I don't think about any of those either, so most rap/hip-hop lyrics have no purpose to me.

...

I'm done now. I won't come by again, because I feel I've made my point, but as per usual I'll be constantly told how shitty my opinion is etc; so no point in being here any more.

You don't find them borderline trash, they're just not your cup of tea because they're coupled with the genres. Stick to your real instruments, but remember The Devil Wears Prada and all of those other hardcore bands you listen to use synth. Vocals? You find all of them borderline trash? I'd like some examples even though you've exited the thread.
lol pls

Why do lyrics have to be the reason you listem? Good, relatable lyrics are nice, but sometimes a catchy beat is just as good for a mood as uplifting lyrics. A lot of the times that's what an artist provides. It isn't a bad thing to just enjoy a performer, their stage presence and their attitude. Assuming that simply because some people listen to artists like Kanye West and the like immediately translates to us being pot heads, druggies, party people, and the like, is a bit insulting. That's like us implying that because you listen to Hands Like Houses you self harm.

As for relating to it all. Wow. Have you ever made an effort to listen to hip hop outside of the top 100 you find? A lot of the artists you listed, well, I listen to them as well, but you're not typically finding them on a radio station. Think of rap/hip hop in that sense. There's an underground, unnoticed scene where the meaning is rich that you're overlooking because of a few songs you heard in passing. I'm not saying your opinion is shitty, I'm saying it's not thought through and it hasn't been looked at objectively. Maybe you should take a look at the Hip Hop OT and ask for a more meaningful side to the genres instead of trashing them with the shallow outlook.

As for this new track? Eh. Gonna just go listen to 808's - better execution, anyway.

I bet when the album releases and this is within the context of the rest of it, people will suddenly like it a lot more just like 808s. Or if they go through some moment in life, i'll hit them and they'll realize it's an awesome song...kind of like most tracks in 808s

I'll let you know how I feel when the album drops or if I have an epiphany of some sorts and it suddenly takes on new meaning for me. :P

Haha, I'm just speaking as someone who had that happen for me with 808s and who thought MBDTF was just ok when it came out, but years later thought it was waay better for some reason (and this was before Yeezus, so it wasn't a result of some Kanye cycle either)

Whats the deal with "cryfam". Someone please explain.

:cryfam:

I can't see how anyone could possibly say the genre that brought us Sky is Falling is garbage. Smh...

I can easily see why someone could find the genre to be garbage, even that song. Just as I can easily see someone finding rock to be a garbage genre with "Wish You Were Here" as a garbage song. People have different tastes and it's hard to judge someone by their dislikes. One man's trash is another man's treasure after all.

Man, it's time to whip out the autotune, sing terribly and stack some harmonies from the harmony engine. People would call me a creative genius and I'd get fat stacks of loot. Or atleast more soundcloud views that I've ever imagined having. It's embarassing that people think uncreative poop like this that was produced in 5 minutes is a stroke of genius. I'm not the worlds greatest producer but that's a song he shat out in 30 minutes of studio time.

DJMicLuv, is that you?

Yeezus went #1 in over 30 countries. Incredible considering how boring annoying it was.

Didn't know it topped the charts. Just remember J Cole beating him. Not like people buy cd's anymore anyways. Probably sold like 300 copies.

why is it a ridiculously bad opinion? I could say the exact same about you, but with my taste in music, but I don't. I respect your opinion.

As I suspect though, if I don't like rap/hip-hop I am wrong, and have the wrong opinion and should probably go through electro shock therapy. Jesus christ, no one can have an opinion on GAF, without being told they have a shitty opinion.

I think metal is stupid as all fuck. You don't see me going into metal threads posting that.

I wonder when the last time was Kanye actually topped any chart? Been awhile.

Yeah I think his albums still perform moderately well but I can't imagine the singles are doing the same lol. I don't keep up with that stuff but maybe "Ninjas in Paris"?

Probably Clique/Mercy, which was also the last time he tried to. It's not like he made Yeezus and was all yeah I'm going to run the summer with this stuff, and he took last year off.

What is so bad about this song?

Sounds ok to me, nothing groundbreaking but it's not trash either
That's probably what's so bad about it.

Groundbreaking is always good. But these days, if a song is really trash, it can make it on stupidity alone. This song is just mediocre.

about a year ago when his last album came out and went number 1

lol what if this was really dj khaled?

Yeezus may have debuted at #1 but the sales were still pretty weak it seems. According to the wiki it plummeted by ~80% the following week.

Alright, just peeped their post history and I don't think its the real dj khaled. In fact I don't think they even live in the States.

hahaha.

The underlying song is good. This terrible application of auto-tune makes it almost impossible to listen to.

Kanye stans, stop gassing this guy up!

Thank you.

I've listened to this song a few times now and I'm still fascinated by how bad it is. Like, seriously. This is some cacophonous fuckery. I'm all for his pushing the envelope but he needs to quit with the autotune.

After listening to it for the 3rd time, it doesn't sound too bad.

yeah something clicked for me as well. I swear they re-released a new version with toned down autotune or something. Cause it somehow all fits now.

"He'll give us what we need
It may not be what we want."

Auto tune or any sort of vocal synthesizer will always been fine if it's a stylistic choice and not one made out of necessity. I don't mind if the effect enhances or helps to create a melody.

Sorry I won't ever come into one of these threads again and post what i think.

It was stupid. I'm not good at defending or arguing.

It's cool.

You had a point of view and you expressed it and while some including myself disagree you are still entitled to your opinion.

Now that I'm sober it sounds much better than the NYE listen. Not what I expected and not really in his top tier, but it's still heart felt. It's funny everyone was asking kanye to talk about something touching and possibly relatable and he does it just to be met with negativity. Man if Kendrick did this shit y'all would be slobbing it up. It's amazing and definitely needs some reworking like strings or something but it's not shitty either. Meh

I really am surprised at the dislike for auto-tune. Have any of you listened to a Kanye song in the last 6 years?

What? In the last 6 years we've gotten MBDTF, WTT, CS, and Yeesus. Why should we expect auto tune?

It sucks here cause it sounds like the actual vocals are decent.
