New Light Gun Shooter from Namco- Razing Storm

From a markteting stand point, releasing a light gun game on the Wii means that every single Wii owner has the ability to buy your game and play it with a normal controller.

For a lightgun game on the PS3/360 you have to buy not only the game, but the light gun. Which cuts the potential audience down by a considerable margin.

However, in an era when Guitar Hero can sell a ton of games at that higher pricepoint, I think a Lightgun game could sell really well too. The problem will alway be price. Sega or Namco needs to put together a Light Gun package that comes with two light gun controllers and a collection of classic light gun game. If a package like that could make an impact on 360/PS3 then I think there would be potential to port new Light Gun arcade games to those consoles.

As it stands though, porting old shooters to the Wii is a much more sensible and safe business strategy. I'm surprised that Namco havn't ported over a Time Crisis Collection already, to be honest. Sega's making a lot of cash for almost no effort with Ghost Squad and the HotD Returns. They arn't blockbuster sellers, but they seem to do pretty well.

The Guncon3 ship sunk a long-ass time ago and really all the blame falls on Namco. With this game looking out of the Wii's league I seriously doubt we'll ever see a console port.

Wouldn't be much of a shocker though, Sega & Namco -- two of the biggest guys in terms of arcade gun games -- really don't give a crap about console ports. Even today with the Wii we've only seen another port of HoTD 2 & 3 and Ghost Squad from Sega and absolutely zilch from Namco(unless you count the recent VCA release of Starblade)

Played this at my local arcades a few times and enjoyed it. The way the kick ass marines come storming in on the intro to emo rock gets me all time :lol.

I'd bet money that the Wii's successor, which I imagine would have even more accurate IR and HD competent graphics, will see some of those light gun shooters that are backlogged in arcades right now.

Ghost Squad was years late coming out, but it did make it out eventually and Sega made a mint off of it, same with their low-cost and high return HOTD2&3 and their apparently moderately successful HOTD: Overkill. My point is that there remains an audience for light gun shooters outside of arcades and the development cost for any home port are essentially subsidized by the arcade version of the same game. There's no reason for the genre to die off, and now with a potentially wider audience armed with Wii Zappers I don't think it will. The Wii's deficient horsepower may keep it from getting any current arcade ports, but that won't always be a problem.

In the meantime, the hits just keep on coming.

I got a used Time Crisis 4 + GunCon 3 bundle sitting at work that I'd love to snaffle, provided there were other games that would use the GunCon 3. Like Razing Storm or HotD 4 for example. Considering how badly TC4 did, I'm not going to expect this to get ported. Pity, as it looks damn awesome and there isn't an arcade worth shit around here.

At the same time, I wouldn't mind a Namco light gun shooter on the Wii - something really fast-paced and frantic. Maybe a new Time Crisis spinoff, like Project Titan, but hopefully as good as TC2. Wishful thinking. I guess Dead Space Extraction and RE Darkside Chronicles will have to do until then. I'd rather this not get ported to the Wii, as it would choke and die.

The Wii is a fine system for gun games but between Sega & Namco I think they just don't care that much. Even ignoring the fact that all of Sega's current shooters are Lindbergh-powered(which is out of the Wii's reach it seems) there's still a wealth of older shooters that could be easily ported. But I dunno Sega is just strange like that(the Dreamcast was the same way, so many gun games that could be released yet what did we end up with? HoTD2, Conspiracy Mission, and uhhhh Death Crimson?). I'm not sure what Namco's excuse is since they have a history of porting gun games to the Playstation line(though a number of titles still slip through the cracks). A compilation of the three Point Blanks or maybe some Time Crisis releases? Should be easy peasy. But then they get called out for ignoring their Guncon3. Their situation is just a mess.

What is weird is that the Wii will soon have 4 light gun shooters that were built from the ground up (ish), while the number of arcade ports has been pretty low.
