New Mario Kart 8 Deluxe gameplay

So this is basically the definitive Kart Racer?

Man, I envy you folks. Getting all this stuff on day one is some sweet stuff.

It could still get a lot better. There are some core gameplay elements that if MK would adopt, it would definitely be a better game, but they would change this because then it wouldn't be Mario kart. There are several things they could do take MK to the next level. I'll give you a hint...

Yeah, Mario Kart 8 is the best game on Wii U and the best Mario Kart game. It is simply fantastic.

Personally I thought it was a barebones package. Deluxe is what I wanted standard MK8 to be. The most complete MK game imo was DS. Mission Mode was the best thing to happen to Mario Kart.

I have been yelling about audio options in MK for decades, yes.

I've been yelling about a competent, rock solid set of options in Mario Kart for ages.

At least since Smash Bros Melee opened my eyes to how more amazing a game can be if you can tune it to your liking.
And after 100s of hours with MK, I'd love to tune down the OST and drive to my own music while still getting driver/item sounds...

I'm still mad about no stock options and still got the game preordered -_-

Where's that series now?

audio options were my number one thing I wanted added to mk8 (after they finally put the map on the TV)

I'd rather Nintendo take a look at Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed for how to improve race types, item balance, kart transformations, single-player mode structure, franchise representation, etc.

This was day one of it came out this week since I have a long easter trip it would be perfect for. As t stands, I'm too invested in the Wii U version with my 4 pro controllers to jump in before summer.

From early analysis, it does seem as if stats have changed a little between versions.

Why does it matter where the series is now? My point is there still ways Nintendo can make it much a better game, which is good because it's already a great series. See what they have done with Mario Maker.

My bad, I just had flashbacks to my personal experience with the game. Got it at launch and never could get used to the steering, load times, and the horrific A.I. The creation tools were sweet but that was it for me. Whenever it's suggested that Mario Kart should ape from Modnation, I get shivers.

It rumbles...

Kidding :) Someone in that thread said that people who played it experienced diffenrent rumbling concerning the "underground" they were driving on...

Damn that sounds awesome. I'm getting 1-2 Switch this week and I'm super excited to try out the HD rumble stuff to see if it's worth it. Seemed like a really dumb feature at the announcement but if real games can make use of it in ways that add depth to the experience, I'm all for it.

It's going from 720p60 to 1080p60.
I believe 2 player split screen is 60 as well, which is an upgrade from the Wii U.

7 and 8 had FFA and Teams if I remember right, so this one should be the same as those 2 games.
Two players was always 60fps iirc

I hope the metal class got a minir boost in a stat. There wasn't a reason to pick them over light heavy class

How did you miss the heaps of praise MK8 got buried under? It's the best Mario Kart out there.

Of course.

Inkling suit is the only new costume.

Once I decided not to get a Wii U I basically completely ignored Nintendo. Just ordered a switch this weekend so now Nintendo exist again in my mind.

The main thing that stuck out to me when I played this at the switch event (that map that is just a circle (with 13 laps?)) (and won) is the ability to hold an item behind you while you pick up a new one.

I was so disappointed when WiiU MK8 didn't have that. Like they removed a bunch of the skill in defending yourself while still making progress. It soured the game for me.

That's almost worth the upgrade alone.

Actually, you can pick up a second item in this game without even dragging the first one.

Anyone know how the controller setup works in this game? For instance, can we use separately Joy-Cons as normal controls without motion steering?

There's no way that they won't support that. In fact it's what I love the most about the joycons, that they have an analog stick and four face buttons unlike the wiimote. Smash and MK sucked when played with wiimotes only

The issue with that was always that it made it extremely hard to overtake 1st because they could just i finitely defend themselves from shells. That mechanic needs to have the item pool in first diluted to work well.

How long do you guys reckon the battery life will be when playing this? Fast RMX was around 5 hours so I'm hoping for something similar with this since having MK8 on the go is one of the main reasons I got a Switch and decided to double dip.

But that's how every MK game did it...and they're going back to it. You only got shit items in first place... Maybe allowing #2 to get a mushroom would have helped, I don't remember if you had much chance of getting those.

I'm on the opposite side of the fence with this. My fiance plays Mario kart every day and crushes me because she is a lap ahead with endless bananas to stop me from catching up. The original was the first one where I could take 1st every once in awhile without having to get as hardcore as her. It was fun.

Edit, also for the the person above saying you only get shit items in first..Nah. Bananas prevent all damage from behind (essentially everything but blue shells) and you get nearly an unlimited supply. Meanwhile 2nd place gets one red shell if they're lucky which is useless to 1st places bananas. Then if it's not that it's a banana or a coin usually.

I'm so excited to play MK8 again (...Even though I own the Wii U version), but I'm super disappointed by the lack of new tracks

How is this executed?

Does your kart bounce off an invisible wall and you maintain your speed?

The Steering Assist implementation will determine whether I buy this or not. My three-year-old really wants to play Mario Kart but gets frustrated quickly when the turtle in the cloud won't stop holding the sign.

But that's how every MK game did it...

And it was a problem in every Mario Kart.

In first all you need is bananas and green shells. Nothing else is actually useful besides a horn.

They could boost stuff like mushrooms for 2nd place to help. I am just saying with a dragging mechanic second place needs help because it can be almost impossible to overtake first at a certain point.

This all looks great, but I still think it's downright tragic that not a single battle map from Mario Kart 64 made the cut.

I hope they just make more DLC for this rather than an Mario Kart 9.
