new Mario Kart 8 trailer

Man... an airport is such a clever place for a race course, with the wide interior terminal concourses, networks of runways and taxiways offering potential shortcuts, hazards like low-flying planes, and beautiful waterfront views. Good job, Ninty.

Indeed, it's hard to believe that no one has ever thought of this before!

There are many others, of course -- turns out that runways make for excellent race tracks.

Nintendo really knows how to do tasteful graphics... Their recent games look better than pretty much everything on PS4/XB1.
Don't think anyone can disagree with that, they knew how to do it in every single gen. I want to see MK8 on the LG OLED TV so bad

Courses are the real stars of Mario Kart.
It might be because I've played it more than any other Mario Kart but I felt MKW lacking the most in this regard, the three Bowser castles felt like overkill for example

The art style is great as usual, but holy damn the poor textures, filtering, and aliasing are really noticeable. It'll be even worse on a TV... I hope it's exaggerated in the shots.

Can someone list all of the new courses so far?

The game looks iffy in screens, but all of the footage released so far is nothing short of glorious. If it weren't for the Nintendo characters it could pass for a PS4 game.

Whoa, hold the phone -- can you post screens or GIFs of the three I bolded?

We haven't seen dolphin shoals or shy guy falls. They're advertisements in that airport track.

The San Fran track is that city from the first trailer and the demo with the rail cars.

I think there's also one for something called koopa water park on a flyer.

^ Oh yeah, I forgot about this one. It's a flyer in the yellow pillar from the first screenshot.

Edit:
Here

I have no screens or gifs for the first two since they haven't been revealed officially.
We know they exist because there's a flightboard in the Sunshine Airport track with those names listed

And about the San Francisco-New York one...

It is from the E3 demo

I remember reading somewhere this one was actually Dolphin Shoals but since there are no dolphins there, well...

Wow!! Good eye, guys!! :)

I hope the dolphins in Dolphin Shoals are these guys:

They were in the Galaxy games, too, but typing in "Mario Galaxy Dolphin" on Google results in images of SMG... upscaled on Dolphin, lol.

Amazing! I wonder how all those cars racing at once fit inside the airport.

OK, I guess I was thinking of Guppy (an orca or shark) in Sea Slide Galaxy in SMG1.

I guess the World Dolphins haven't appeared in 3D yet...?

They were definitely in one of the New Super Mario Bros. games but I don't know which one. Or if I'm just making that up in my head.

To be fair most WiiU games look terrible in screenshots (with regards to jaggies / poor textures) but amazing in motion... Pikmin 3 and Wonderful 101 are two that instantly spring to mind.

It also helps that the likes of Kart and Smash are fast paced action games running at 60fps.

I love the colors. Does Wario's kart have 3 wheels?
It's a Morgan 3 wheeler...
Yeah, Wario is driving a Reliant Robin: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQh56geU0X8

Is that a statue of Daisy or Peach?

And with all the damn babies they better bring back BABY PARK. And the special weapons and double karts. I want to litter the track with with giant bananas then fling giant shells sideways crossing over the center divider.

Is that bitch Snaking? :(

Numerous people have played the E3 demo at different events and confirmed MK8 uses Mario Kart Wii/Mario Kart 7 drift system i.e. the longer you drift and the sharper your turn is, the faster your mini-turbo charges. Alternating left/right left/right like in previous entries does not charge the mini-turbo at all.

Differences compared with MKWii/MK7 so far are:
 - Bikes can charge super mini-turbos (orange sparks)
 - Automatic drifts (turning without starting a drift) can load mini-turbos
 - Super mini-turbos seemingly charge a bit faster

Snaking à la MKDS is probably never coming back after the PRB and online debacle.

I wish snaking was back, MKDS is my favourite because of it.

Still won't stop me from getting MK8, the e3 demo felt good althugh I do hope they put at least some edge detection/AA because it was pretty jaggy, although it wasn't too bad afte getting used to it.

Rosilina was always going to be in it. Iwonder if she'll ever get ber own spin off in something like Super Rosilina Galaxy or something.

you want snaking back!?!

why?

it was horrible, you were literally dictated to do that if you wanted to compete online, I don't like being dictated to w/do it comes to play style, snaking was just not fun, at all!!!!!!!

I personally enjoyed it, more for trying world record time attacks and such, the online didn't really work so well for me due to teleporting karts.

^ that San Francisco themed track reminds me so much of the Cherry whatever section of Lego City

gosh I love that game

The more fundamental with MKDS was the complete lack of proper matchmaking with other people that are at your level of skill. A complete newbie could end up racing against someone who sank thousands of hours into the game, and the PRB exploit and the near useless items certainly didn't help... for a game that is supposed to be played by all sorts of people that's pretty bad imo (it was their very first online game though, to be completely fair).

If MKDD had online back then, you could probably expect similar complaints. And the issue of mathcmaking still hasn't been really fixed even today, in fact the small efforts they put in MKW in that aspect were thrown away by essentially making the VR score a reflection of your play time instead of your competences.

I wonder what are their plans for MK8 in that regard... at least it should be easier than ever to play with friends so it may not matter that much in the end.

This would be a megaton for me.

It must happen.

Although without double karts it probably wouldn't be the same... :(
