I wonder how (bad) this game could look like in Standard TV...
Someone else in this thread said that Ryan said they made an effort to make sure the game is playable on an SDTV.

My friend played MGO on a SDTV and it looked really well. Everything was perfectly visible, with text obscuring too much of the screen from time to time.

I like both Hayter and Otsuka's performances as Snake, but for different reasons.

To me, Japanese Snake is more like James Bond. He's more refined, more professional, a bit more of a ladies man.

American Snake is more of rebel. Less refined. More badass. Rougher around the edges, more like Rambo.

They're both good. But I will say this--the American voice actress for Sunny makes me want to gouge my ears out with a steel spike.

The PMC commercials are AWESOME. Very...I mean...they're like commercials! Although I have to question why companies that are only going to be hired by quasi-national entities and corporations that have security concerns on the same level as a nations would need TV commercials.

I missed that post, but that sounds reassuring. I'm barely able to afford the bundle after selling a bunch of junk in my house, so I probably won't be playing HDTV with it any time soon. That is, assuming I manage to hit order before the bundle runs out. :D

why does that rock look like that? honestly...

There's not a whole lot going on there, is that a early pre-beta shot just re-cycled late or something?....

saggy old man bumcheeks..... I'll try to close my eyes during those parts. I'm going to get the game, don't get me wrong, but i'm sorry if my socks are still on...

WAT?

it's not "blowing my socks off", so to speak. Maybe i'm a texture whore (subset of a graphics whore), but i see a lot in those pics that remind me of PS2ness. Sorry, maybe it's just me.

I did just get done playing a round of uncharted, so, i guess i figure they could do better.

wait, you play MGS to look at Rocks?

anyway, those commercials area probably some of the most badass commercials ever. hahah, if I was a noob and saw that commercial, i'll just be like wtf!

Oh noes!

Anyway since we're on the subject of graphics, P:TOM called MGS4 the most beautiful game available.

Is this a new review or something? I just woke so I haven't been able to keep up with the thread.

I downloaded it to my ps3 to check that it was possible. What I did was click the link, then on the file page I put the cursor over the link that contain the file then press Triangle > File > Save Target. It worked for me. Just played the downloaded video, the first test file was on a thumb and I played it from the thumb drive.

If it don't work when you download it from the site with the ps3, just try downloading it with the pc and stream it, burn it, or transfer it with a flash media. It should work.

From CVG today comes a pretty wild rumor about Metal Gear Solid 4: the final title in the Solid Snake series will feature rather lengthy cutscenes. How lengthy? Try 90 minutes. And that's not 90-minutes in total, that's a 90-minute cutscene.

Trouble is, the claim isn't accurate. Will MSG4 have lengthy cutscenes? Yes, says GamePro's own Sid Shuman, but nowhere near 90 minutes.

"I've completed the game twice, and am the author of the forthcoming [GamePro] review," Shuman said. "Ninety-minute-long cinemas in MGS4 sounds like an exaggeration. Like the other MGS games, MGS4 definitely has a cinematic quality. And yes, some of the cut-scenes in the game are elaborate and occasionally lengthy. But not a one, to my recollection, even approaches 90 minutes."

I read the P:TOM review, I'll post a summarised version (leaving out spoilers)

Ask any videogame reviewer for their top 10 games of all-time and rather than excited espousal and insight you'll be greeted by eye-rolls and deep sighs. Not that it's passe, it's that the question is so damn difficult. Was the game you may have scored an 80% (Championship Manager, many years ago) actually better than the one you gave 94% (Neverwinter Nights), when you factor in the phenomenal hours committed? Personally I can always supply my top game - Doom - in a heartbeat, then stumble for an eternity over numbers two to ten, swaying titles in and out with each wind change. How special does a title have to be to immediately, unequivocally, make that list? Well so long as I have the faculties to remember the names of 10 games (and count from one to ten), I can guarantee Metal Gear Solid 4 will retain a spot in my top 10, no matter which way the wind is blowing. And I'm willing to bet it'll be similarly revered by PS3 gamers the world over. Yes, it's that special.

I'm keenly aware as I write this that what I say needs to matter to anyone who might be inclined to simply skip a Metal Gear game simply because they haven't been a part of the ebullient fanboyism that has epitomised this series for 20 years. So in that spirit. Hi, my name is Rob, and I am NOT a Metal Gear addict. Playing MGS2 (on PC) was my biggest involvement in the series. I knew some of the characters and backgrounds through editing stories. And still, while MGS4 perfectly wraps up the story entrails left swinging after all the previous games (and in doing so delivers perfectly pitched fan-service), it also has such an open gameplay delivery, and it's presentation is so phenomenal, that any self-respecting PS3 owner should consider it their next purchase.

...

Metal Gear MK II, the personality filled robot that you can use to scout ahead if you absolutely, positively must sneak. That's a great tactic on the highest of the four difficulty levels (a fifth brutally tough option opens after you've completed the single-player game for the first time).

...

But there's a huge reason why MGS4 is one of the most significant game designs of all time: if you come into the game with no prior MGS knowledge, you'll still uncover one of the most absorbing stories ever told in cutscene vignettes, produced as brilliantly as the medium has ever witnessed.

...

Take the time to drink in the information that floods in through the character's dialogue. Only fleetingly does it seem overblown since the acting and direction displayed in each scene is simply outstanding. Whether it's the subtle twitch of Meryl's lips,
Snake's jerk back to modern day awareness (already demonstrated in one of the recent trailers)}
... every scene is compelling.

...

Two acts into this experience you'll think you know what's in store for the rest of the game when it suddenly changes in such a beautiful way that you'll spend a few moments just adjusting to the new environment.
Heading into Eastern Europe
, If you weren't sure that this was a next-generation game pushing the limits of PS3 hardware before, then the architecture and gameplay moments packed into this act will have you so convinced you'll be calling over your friends, keeping save games for do-overs, and making sure everyone witnesses the staggering visuals.

...

The level of interaction with this world is spectacular... An incredible depth of gun customisation options - the ability to add sights, lights and better grips for accuracy - further enhances the myriad of ways of taking a different approach to the world.

...

Plug in your Ipod and listen to any of the Metal Gear music (including songs from previous Metal Gear games that you can scavenge from various levels). Yes that's a real Ipod and it controls as a real Ipod would (be sure to listen to Associate Producer Ryan Payton's exclusive ingame podcast).

...

MGS4 is special in so many ways that I suspect it will reside amongst the industry's greatest achievements long after we're dust... I've finished it twice now and I highly suspect more play-throughs lie in my future. That, right there, is the hallmark of a game deserving instant recognition in any all-time-top-10 list.

that's great news.

QFT!

If all games were super colorful and shiney then they'd just look messy.
The games would look like they lack any real art direction like Kameo, Halo series, and perfect dark zero.

i can only hope that this isn't a serious post

I am glad you cleared that sock thing up, I figured your were talking like Saints & Sinners mag that rates pornos on a 1-5 sock level...

PS3 compatible good quality trailer. Sound is flat though. I failed, I'll try to do a better version later. I was worrying about making sure it looked good and was compatible with the ps3.

Don't bother trying to convert the video into a AVI to get it to run on PS3. Quicktime movies can be converted to MP4 almost instantly.

Open it with Quicktime, click File, Export, select Movie to MPEG-4, choose pass through in the options, then save. The conversion literally took 5 seconds on my computer, theres no quality loss from the original file, and it works with PS3 perfectly as an MP4.

Oh, and the file size shrank from 84.3MB to 47.5MB.

Edit: I'll just upload the mp4 vid. I like storing MGS4 trailers on my PS3 and i'm assuming others here want to as well.

as awesome as that is to know, it sucks that I need quicktime pro to do this :(

With the whole GTA4 10 (Best game ever, with no faults what so ever) review fiasco in my memorie, I can't quite trust these reviewers. Why should we believe them now? I have no dubt this will be a great game, but this time I go into it with a little more caution than GTA (right now I prefer playing FFVII: CC on psp rather than GTA...) and let it surprice me with the magic I know is there.

Spoilers about Raiden's helmet:

You know how Raiden's visor can open and close, and when it's closed BOTH of his eyes seem to be completely obscured? Well it looks like his visor is using the same Solid Eye tech that snake has.

Check out this screen, if you look closely you can see that the visor seems to say
"Caution
Dual Solid Eye System"
http://i32.tinypic.com/33nc1zs.jpg

If this is true then maybe this means that Raiden's entire cyborg suit was made by Otacon?
