New Metal Gear Solid 4 screens (SPOIIIILLLLERS)

Yeah, blah blah. I'm interested in seeing if anyone here really applauds the design choice instead of merely tolerating it.

MGS has always used dominant color styles like this. MGS = blue, MGS2 = blue/green for the tanker and orange for the Big Shell and MGS3 = green. MGS4 just follows in the same direction.

Is this game 60FPS?

The screens don't look impressive at all, but not because of the low-res textures. I'm sick to death of this sepia tone crap we keep getting this gen. Between this and Resistance and the million Unreal powered games out there, I'm really sick of the color schemes.

That said, I'm a huge MGS fanboy and have the LE pre-ordered. But would it kill Kojima to add some color? The original trailer (CG) struck a great balance. This...is just depressing.

Yeah, blah blah. I'm interested in seeing if anyone here really applauds the design choice instead of merely tolerating it.

Considering how fantastic all the MGS games look respectively of release, why wouldn't I applaud Kojima Production designs which as been consistent since the beginning?

I'm assuming that you can play through some enhanced versions of previous MGS games (certain important sections) during flashbacks. That'd be insanely cool, it's what I'm expecting after the remade MGS1 footage shown.

Those are some nice screens, can't wait for this one.

Kojima Productions have talked about the flash backs for about a year now. So far there really isn't any indication that any flashbacks are playable. They are supposed to just be a replacement for the R1 function in MGS3 (where you could look around the cutscene in first person). This time you press a button and it will show some video or screens of a scene from a previous game relating to what is being spoken about in MGS4.

Plus MGS4 seems to be following a somber tone, overall pretty depressing. Intense colors would be very wrong here.

I haven't been following MGS4 news very closely. Did it come out at some point that the footage originally shown was target footage or something? Because this looks nowhere near as good as those initial couple trailers did.

Plus after seeing it all in action in that "Summer theatrical trailer", Kojima Production clearly knows they wanted.

Besides, who are we to tell them what MGS should look like when they done it 3 times beautifully already?

4D BITCHES!

Is that a SIXAXIS or a DS3 in his hands?

I'm not going to look, but I wanna thank SolidSnakex for posting them -- do you have, like, 3,000 windows open at one time, auto-refreshing? You're everywhere, dude!

Do any games look as good as their initial trailers?

Watch the newest trailers at gametrailers and see for yourself.

Heck, there was such a brand new 2008 "Theatrical trailer" done in the style of a summer blockbuster movie shown days ago, and it's nothing short of amazing looking.

Here's the thread:

Remenber we have only seen a small portion of the game!

Like before the release of MGS2 we only saw the tanker, and then the game suddenly changed it's style. I bet it's going to happen the same thing this time around the 3 continents.

The one with meryl was just a vid of her in MGS1.

I mean the one that showed a
younger looking Snake but in the MGS 4 engine, with the Shadow Moses environment, then Snake came back to reality as old snake saying something about "that dream again?"

They definitely scaled back a few things (they reduced the detail in the Snake model, for one). This happens during development a lot. IIRC Bungie basically scrapped the lighting engine they used in the first Halo 2 trailer because it was a resource hog.

The first one in 2005 was pretty much a tech demo that ran on a really powerful PC that they thought PS3 would be comparable too. Every trailer after that was real time on real PS3 hardware and has been surpassed by the final game, IMO.

I don't think that one is a flashback.

Holy shit. Looks like i don't need that MGS3 remake after all.

Yeah I was really happy when I saw the jungle like setting. MGS3 was one of the few games to pull that setting off really well. I'm still surprised there are games being released this gen where grass doesn't move when you move through it even though MGS3 was doing that last gen.

The UVW's on that rock texture are all stretch up! :/ Just being picky!

Plus, some of the textures are very low res... I think I'm starting to understand Kojimas words about the PS3 hardware! :P

I don't recall them looking this drab, though. This is like something you see in a dream sequence or flashback scene.

Maybe it's just because the CG trailer spoiled me. It looked so beautiful, now everything looks like they sucked the color out of it.

I don't care if it's a "warzone", Call of Duty was the same thing and had vibrant colors.

ah ah ah! :lol I'm surprised someone recognized me here on gaf!

Anyways, yeah, working on it atm!

I've played 'em too and used your config. Good shit, dude. :D

Look great and I can't wait to play it.

My only big fear is that they might do something nuts and reveal the whole series to be a dream or something insanely stupid like that.

killzone 2 looks amazing. mgs4 does not.

KZ2 is definitely in another league... - And it even has colors compared to MGS4, man..

Looks like 60fps has taken its toll.

I'm not worried though, I've heard rumors saying that the rest of the game is great..

can you still play the game in full fps mode like the first trailer indicated?

no i beleive the fps mode died a long time ago.

all you get now is playable over the shoulder gun mode and a standing still fps look mode, right?

also disappointed like some of you at the graphics....looks like kojima was right when he said they could not achieve waht they wanted to with their target videos back in 2005.

just look at the indoor scenes....that wooden door looks genuinely last gen?

well if you're gonna adopt that mentality then 95% of games look shite
they both look amazing
