Too burned by their Kinect demos. Until the final product is in the wild, I'm keeping my expectations in check.
There is a difference though. WIth Kinect, everyone said it was rough from the moment they got hands on demos. In this case, all the hands on demos with actual people are extremely positive.

Edit: And we should be seeing hundreds more of hands on experiences from developers at Build.

Cute demo concept. But I'm not floored when real world usage is not going to even be half of that. Also, who has empty walls?

Cool tech, just... It still looks like a dream rather than a goal.

It's impressive tech, but I don't see a reason why I need one yet. Hoping there are some great game applications in the works (Minecraft is okay), but keeping my expectations pretty low.

Program me a virtual 20-something Stacey Dash and I'll never have to leave the house.

Seriously though, that is a pretty cool demo of practical applications of VR that is not gaming.

That isn't like, concept. That is what people who use it say it works like - it doesn't have a good fov, and it doesn't do depth super well, but it's a real physical thing, and at that conference, and others, people have tried it.

I don't care, that's some amazing stuff..
I hope they launch it when it's ready. Please don't rush it.

So with that video player scaling, is this the beginning of the end for traditional television sets?

Screw television sets. I want to make an app which I put on my Desktop that allows me to just spawn off monitors. I want an array of 20 monitors damnit!

Yes, they tried the demo. They didn't try the real world consumers product. Imo, This is still an inconvenient pipe dream. I'm not impressed really. I feel like the point was to get away from wearable, not to continue pushing it. It looks cool, but it's already looks dated while being ahead of its time.

That doesn't look impressive or futuristic to me at all. He's just plastering virtual TVs and monitors all over.

Oh, is that all? I have a drawer full of devices that do that exact same thing!

They have production models there for people to try, we'll be getting more impressions of the next couple of days.

Looks amazing. I can see this becoming a mass market technology in the next 5-10 years with VR leading the way in the next 3-5.

In my opinion, no. It's just the same AR stuff I've seen demoed in countless videos over the years. Windows 10 is awesome, but I'm just not seeing anything special about this.

Imagine the porn
Hmm, you may be on to something....

But it's nothing that hasn't been shown off before.

How does this look dated? I am flabbergasted, truly.

Do you think it's inconceivable because you think wearables are not a thing, or not going to be a thing?

I'd like to see these implemented in classrooms: take a trip to explore Kilimanjaro, Mars, or the quantum world (okay, that last part will have to be largely figurative, but you get the point).

My internet is terrible right now so the video isn't loading, but I saw a video presentation earlier with a robot and what looked like AR. What was that? Was the hologram thing visible to the audience? Was it being generated by the hololens? If so, that was pretty crazy. I thought the hololens was just going to he some sort of advanced google glass device but if it actually projects stuff, wow

I'm usually pretty sceptical when it comes to Microsoft, but I think their onto something here. As an initial step into VR this AR approach looks more practical than the competitors full on encapsulation. Even long term I think this idea of being able to see the real world will be the standard.

Just get a tv. You can share it with everyone simultaneously.

Yeah but you can't WATCH THE FUCKING TV ON THE CEILING HUH

and then my wife can watch law and order on her hololens and I can watch pluralsight videos that I have been paying 30 dollars a month for but not watching yet because I have no time when I get home
