new nintendo 2ds xl comes out july 28 $149

Why are they holding it so weird?

Does it not fold all the way back?

To hide this ugly ugly hinge

im only interested in this if its as actually pocket sized as it looks

the xl in the name because the screen size is bumped is suspicious and it might turn out to be massive and awful

been looking for something to upgrade my og 3ds from with its dying shoulder buttons and slow as fuck clockspeed that causes hitting the home button in any modern game to be an ordeal

So this means theyll drop the price of the New 3DS right?

150 is a great price but i want to retain the 3D for the few games that utilize it well.

Hardly pointless. Suspect this is a profit machine with a big margin for Nintendo,
kinda pissed its not 100 us and actually remotely reasonably priced in cad but if its smaller then my og 3ds or at least roughly the same size but thinner then they're finally getting my money

Makes sense to have a budget line out there that continues.

Also goddamn that the first 3DS/2DS hardware that actually looks damn nice.

Parents with kids will not generally be buying a Switch. It's too expensive, joycons will be lost, it's not particularly durable, and game library on the 3DS dwarfs Switch one by far. In Holiday 2018 some of he above might be addressed but for now Nintendo made a smar move.

Your points are valid, but against mobile games and tablets built durable enough to be child proof, I wonder how well it will sell in 2017, 2018, and beyond. Parents interested enough in the 2DS already bought it, and they're still sitting on shelves. I see no point in this revision personally. I don't know what expectations Nintendo has for the thing but let's see how this plays out all the same.

It says 'XL'. About zero chance of being smaller than the OG 3ds of all things.

Even though I'm not in the market for this, it seems smart. The 3d novelty has worn off years ago, with the Pokemon (?) games not even using it anymore. The old 2ds was pretty hideous, but for people coming lttp and looking for some cheaper mobile gaming machine than the Switch, a tablet or smartphone, this should cover the base. As the 3ds line fades out, it might even drop in price later.

Probably being a cheap to produce fade out machine for the 3ds line. Not everyone is looking to buy a 300-400 quid electronic toy or to play all the newest games. 150 and established library? That's impulse buy range.

Looks great but I'm all in on the Switch right now. Hopefully we got crossover titles if the 3DS is here to stay. I have a N3DS and N3DSXL but al I want to play right now is on my Switch.

XL? I like smaller 3DS models better, it makes the resolution bearable. At 100$, I probably would've bought three. My 3DS backlog is pretty big, but my regular XL is breaking at the hinges. Too much for me, though. I wonder how long 'til we see a price drop, as I'd love to get one of these for my little brother eventually.

Yeah this a good idea. This is like the last iteration of the PS2 that came out when PS3 was out.

There's still plenty of people who are years off investing in a Switch, or just want a cheap console still getting new games. This covers all bases.

Very nice design and clearly aimed at a different market to Switch. At that price and design, this is perfect for young kids (5-10yrs?) to get into handheld gaming for the first time - and a huge library to boot. A great stepping stone for them to get to the Switch in 3-5 years time.

Good move, smart decision to push it on the market now for a big black Friday discount later without hurting sales like a late summer release would. This is how the 3DS should have come out. Just an upgraded DS

If there is any chance of this being the ultimate screen (like the ags 101 was for the GBA) for the 2/3DS family I probably would buy it for that alone. I like the 3D but it strains my eyes so I almost always have it turned off. Its definitely not a feature I care that much about.

Price seems a bit excessive to me, I mean the 2DS was supposed to be the budget version. But maybe this has dual IPS screens or something (yeah, right).

Interesting. No 3D, which in my opinion is rarely used, the power of the New 3DS and a nice ergonomic look. With the right bundles this could sell quite good. Now, we need another Pokemon.

Looks very pretty, but the New 3DS XL was my third and last 3DS, I'm ready to move on with the Switch.

I hope this is geared towards the remaining folk who still don't have a 3DS, I would hate it if Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Kirby, etc don't come to the Switch.

I agree. Why I'm irritated with Hey Pikmin not coming to the Switch. I mean, if the Switch is the successor to the 3DS (and it should be), than franchises traditionally on the handheld, along with those on the console, should come to the Switch

I wouldn't replace my 2DS now but 150 seems too expensive. I wonder how much those parts still cost. The original 2DS was also 120 which I found too expensive too.

Of course EU gets both color options lol. Reggie please give us Americans choices!!!

I feel like that white + orange sku would have sold great here considering all the people that prefer to get white + gold iPhones.

I would be so into this if it handled accounts like Switch. If this is just a Micro then ok but if they want to keep it as a second pillar they should really make an effort to drop nnid and add nintendo accounts that can be linked to multiple consoles like switch and also region free.

Ugh, why did they put the speakers at the bottom and not next to the top screen like normal? Sometimes when I hold the 3ds my fingers or hands might partially cover those spots. Also, not having the speakers pointed straight at you is gonna make the sound weaker.

So I've talked with my friends about a potential New 2DS XL one time, sarcastically. I said Nintendo wouldn't be stupid enough to even extend the 3DS family after Switch is out.

I obviously underestimated Nintendo's powers.

Man, if it didn't have that huge hinge bump it'd look pretty good.

Also, who else looks the top half and is immediately reminded of a pre-5 iPhone? I think it's just the proportions but it really throws me off for a second.

Why the hell does this look as good as it does? Also, I might be missing something obvious, but where are the speakers? They're not on the top screen anymore - is that little slit on the bottom right the speaker?

I actually know someone who wants a 3DS, but the new 3DS is too expensive for them and the old 2DS doesn't appeal to them, so this might be just what they want! :p
