New (or maybe?) Heavy Rain images

Sorry, I meant FMV instead of CG. Like something you'd see as an intro for a game. While FMV looked infinitely better than the game, there was something sterile about it. That's the feel I get from these shots. They have the technical grafix bits that the whores love, but it seems devoid of personality.

This thread about the best looking console game ever was created more than 2 hours ago and I hadn't noticed it yet. Damn!

BEAUTIFUL shots, I have not seen these! Thanks for posting...the game looks simply amazing, and I trust what Vinterbird is saying about the intentions of Cage and his team. I personally LOVE adventure games and would kill to see more of this genre (a resurrection!) with higher budgets and technical prowess such as this. Overall, I could really use a good dose of murder mystery and Heavy Rain looks like it's going to deliver.

I just can't believe how good this game looks. The texturing is very good IMO, and the look they're going for is no sweat for some of the great talent on that team!!

I still havent found out what the game is all about.

Is it a movie and you are the director? what is it exactly?

It's some adventure thriller game i'd say. Dig out your Xbox or PS2 and play Indigo Prophecy. You will not only understand everything but your hype for Heavy Rain will grow a freaking lot.

Now those are new. Very nice looking, and the best of all you can see that they've done a good job emulating that looking in the actual game.

FMV is Full Motion Video, so that usually means real people acting on the video :P OK, I'll stop being an ass, as I do know what you mean, but I think this game has certain warm look to it's lighting that doesn't make it look like what you're saying. Moreover, they did a really great job with character animation which helps a lot in that sense as well. They should work more on some of the facial animations though, that one scene where she talks in the trailer didn't look all that hot.

I really wish they would release the whole narrated walkthrough video already, just like Vinterbird suggested.

Great atmosphere thanks to the great lighting.

Textures need some work, though. :/
I'm not sure what more can they do without going into the bumpmap overload stage, which I think would hurt the look in this case. Looking at that trailer I didn't notice any obvious low res texture, anything that had to be stretched over 1:1 to pixel ratio. And the actual texture artwork is really damn good IMO.

When she found the body in the bath it was a pretty realistic gagging emotion, trying to muster courage to continue exploring the house while being scared. And during the chase scene (if the killer finds you) there is some great facial stuff going, it made her look scared and fragile.

But they are doing a lot of neat stuff, motion capture eyes, body language and some cool facial expressions. And the eyes are by far the most impressive thing. They really need to release a narrated edition of the demo the press saw, because it had me on the edge of the seat.

Wow, just your descriptions of the game are creeping me out. So it's possible to not get found by the killer?

yeah, Cage listed several ways which you could complete the scenario, like;
- sneak around and dont get noticed, then sneak out the back to escape
- sneak around, he hears your footsteps, he chases you and you just make it out after a struggle
- sneak around, he hears your footsteps, you hide in a cupboard so he can't find you, then you could either make a quick escape, or ring the police for them to come and get him
- you could just kill him
- he could kill you
- you could alert the police, and he'd kill himself
etc

For some reason I was under the impression he was the main villain and that the struggle in the video I've seen was suppose to happen. That's great that you can solve these situations is many different ways.

I don't really see what's so crazy about the lighting. I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything but really what's so special here? I was impressed with the shot of the guy in the room with just those bars of light on him, but everything else looks pretty standard to me.

You know how I know this rocks . . .

I actually want to step into these screenshots. It feels that real.

I'm itching to get my hands on this damn game.

That's how I know this rocks.

It's the way it sets the mood. It's easy to stick lights all over the place to illuminate. It's not so easy to stick them in places to set the scene and create a palpable atmosphere. Lighting in this manner was once the domain of film, but seeing it now used to great effect in a video game is enough to give me goosebumps.

Maybe I just put too much importance on the subtle things. I don't care, it's cool to me :D
