Yeah, but you have to remember that MS already gave its sport games development studios to Take 2. Maybe this is part of the agreement? Ceding its studios for a lower price in exchange of GTA exclusivity? Who knows...

Didn't know if anyone had posted this yet, but that definitely looks like Kameos main character to me. Too bad it looks like shit blown up.

What do you guys think?
 
If the GTA series were to go exclusive to MS consoles, at least for a period of years, like Sony got with T2 before the Double Pack release on XBOX, it would be a huge feather in MS' cap...having the two biggest-selling franchises this gen (Halo and GTA) in North America. Since I doubt that Take Two will be using Renderware with the next new GTA release, they might be more interested in breaking it in with a UE3 or something in-house and very XNA friendly leading to easy ports to PC. If MS wants to hurt Sony, that's a good place to do it. Still, it sounds like a really, really expensive coup.

I just watched a trailer for Kameo again and you can tell that its the same person, even from a small blurry pic like that. Looks like it is Kameo 360.

I cant see it, all i see is half a giant racoon sticking out from behind a tree, do an overlay of what you're talking about or something.
 
I'm not seeing the Kameo character at all. If anything, I see a bear standing on two legs stepping out from behind the tree. Erm... and perhaps sneaking up on a small, blue-skinned girl who has an acorn for a head. :P

That's not just awfully similar, that's strikingly similar. You can even see the little round translucent roof thing in both pics. Yeah, it's Kameo 360 for sure imho.
 
Take Two/DMA would be taking a huge risk in doing that though.

If PS3 does become the no.1 platform even in the US (very possible), then DMA has tied themselves to the no.2 console, and it opens the door to some other developer making a "crime series" that eclipses GTA because its availible to more people (multiplatform or PS3 only or whatever).

I don't really care about Kameo, to be honest, but I've an idea in my head of how PD0 should look, and this isn't exactly reassuring that my wish will come true :(

Hopefully the tech/engine the PD0 team is using is different. Maybe the style of the shot above is putting me off it even more, which hopefully wouldn't apply to PD.

Ummm...there's no guarantee that Sony will be on top next-gen, and the number one console is always made so through the software it holds. Everything else is secondary. Besides, they would have to be compensated quite well for such an exclusive. I don't see much risk there, really.

soundwave has a point..it is a risk that they'd marginalise the series if they put it on a less successful console exclusively. If Take2 had to bet right now, I think their money would be on Sony. The most popular systems make kings out of certain games..if Sony maintained a significant userbase advantage over their competitors, and GTA wasn't on it, heaven forbid something like The Getaway could eclipse it as a must-have series ;) GTA, would not have become the series it is (commercially) if it hadn't been on Playstation. Is Take2 willing to bet Sony won't hold a significant lead next gen? That should answer the question, at least as far as timed exclusivity versus full exclusivity is concerned.

Izzy is putting me off the scent a little, but I wouldn't be at all surprised to see GTA timed exclusive on X360.

My vote for most likely is SE support as well. Really, why wouldn't they put FF on multiple platforms? Most of the work in the Final Fantasy games would be in creating the story and CG - easily convertable to another console. There's no downside.

Honestly, I don't see the point when you're talking about a franchise that sells well no matter what platform its on. It doesn't define the Playstation, it defines the userbase who buys it...much the same userbase that also buys Halo, IMO...the 18-35 crowd. If you want to look at how to do that, look at Square on the SNES to the PS/PS2. If MS could pull this off, it would have much the same effect, IMO...making the system of choice for many, the other system that gets it. It worked for Sony in Japan, and it could work for MS in North America...even Europe.

Of course, all of this depends on if this is even happening.

My argument is, games don't necessarily sell regardless of platform. A dominant platform can turn what would otherwise be "reasonably" successful into something that's mega-successful. I'm sure Nintendo thought they were onto a winner with Resident Evil this gen - yes, Resident Evil 3 left the series on a low note on the Playstation from a quality perspective, but it was still a big seller and a big franchise - and was considered a massive coup at the time - but, unfortunately for Nintendo, Playstation owners didn't really care. Franchises don't always stay in the same spot with generational transitions - if you look at what was most successful for Playstation and what was most successful for Playstation2, you'll see those shifts, but Sony still managed to come out on top by a long shot.

I'm guess what I'm saying is, unfortunate as it might seem to us, there's a lot more going on with the wider market's choice of platform than "just" games/franchises. I don't mean to write it off as a nothing - it's not, it's very important - but things are more complicated than that still.
 
I'm not disagreeing with you entirely. My take is that GTA was one of the major reasons that the PS2 sold half as well as it has...not that it sold as well as it did because it was on the biggest platform out there.

If I'm going with your reasoning on it, you're already assuming that PS3 will be the dominant platform before the next generation has begun. The RE series already experienced a downturn in sales before the GC got those titles with the release on a non-Sony platform, the DC. That move to DC may have soured many on the series before it even got a chance on the GC. Or that people were simply tired of the series, like the Tomb Raider series, where it just didn't evolve enough for them or evolve in the way they would've liked to see and consequently did not really look forward to each new sequel. Who knows. All I know is that GTA has demonstrated very, very strong sales on all platforms it has been released on, unlike the RE series. That, to me, says that the franchise transcends the platform and console manufacturer's brand name and can sell on its own. Final Fantasy did the same for Square when it jumped ship to another console manufacturer from the one it had lived on for two generations.
 
The problem with RE is that it moved to a console percieved as "kiddy" while it was definitely a "mature" game. I doubt that Take 2 would think that the 360 could tank in the same way that GC did. I mean, how could a console with Halo and GTA timed exclusivity fail when those are probably two out of the three most popular non-sports games right now?

I still like the idea that it could be increased Japanese support, like Square Enix support or something. Japan was probably actually MS's blunder now that I think about it. Then again, utter in the US would basically force Japanese devs to support the 360 or become increasingly marginalized the worlds largest gaming market.

If this isn't the case, it'll be funny. Because they'd basically be saying a X360 game looks like a Xbox game ;) I hope they're right, but honestly, from a technical perspective I couldn't see Xbox pulling off such dense grass over such an apparently wide area.

so now it just remains to be seen if the second portion of teamxbox's prediction is true, ie.e, that it is a shot of the xbox I version and forthcoming will be a shot of the 360 version.

But if this is true what about the S picture? One would think they're spelling a word and that this is the letter I, not a roman numeral.

Yep, that pic looks just like the scene early in that video. I'm saying xbox 1 except the AA looks better in the video trailer.
