New Perfect Dark Zero gameplay footage (1up)

Man, they aren't that close to the barrels. Way to pick one little AI anomaly on easy and condemn the entire game as having shitty AI. :/

I remember the elites jumping away, and the grunts yelling and screaming. This was all on easy. All I am expecting out of the PDZ enemies is to notice the explosion. Maybe cover themselves or something, in the same fashion that Leon does when you throw a gernade in RE 4. Like I said, nothing dynamic. Just a sense of awareness as far as the environment goes.

Man, how can you call me a fat git when you've never seen me eh? I thought you and I were friends man, but now you start slinging insults. It hurts. :lol

I'll try to make it on Halo 2 later tonight, what time you expecting to be on?

Im playin ;p sorry if i came off agressive, I should have added a few smilies. You my boi

7pm Est tonight, some indepth round table with gaf folks :lol

Just from watching these videos, I get the feeling that Perfect Dark Zero perfectly captures the mood and spirit of the original. They didn't try to go all ultra-serious tactics style like Halo, which is a relief. It looks bright, colorful, goofy, and fun.

The graphics aren't amazing (based on what I can see of the crappy vids, which isn't much), but I've been looking forward to a PD sequel for a while now, and this looks like it delivers that.

Well, you see. That's the thing. Throughout the vid, the other weaknesses in AI can be given to the fact that it's on easy but I was just pointing out that they don't really seem to be aware of the environment. I may have blown it a bit out of proportion, but I wouldn't make the arguement if it wasn't a valid one.

I'm a huge fan of the original PD and it is definitely one of my favorite N64 games so I definitely want this game to turn out well. I was just making a comment. No trolling intended on my part at all.

It's cool man, I know you're joking.

7PM Est eh? I can make that. We don't usually play much though, we always seem to have some kind of a round table. Latest discussions have all surrounded PDZ. :lol

so guy is shooting u in the face, you hear barrel explode someplace behind you. what would you do? turn around and get shot in the back?

Yeah the AI opponents down on the ground were busy taking fire from the 2nd player so I doubt they would turn around just to see the explosion behind them.

check out the videos where joanna is picking off the snipers or something like that.. there are a few times where she shoots a guy, doesnt kill him.. reloads.. zooms back in and the guy is still standing there.. doing nothing.

The IGN vids are terrible. The intro looks amateurish to say the least... and sounds amateurish as well. What horrible voice acting.

Graphically, it looks the same as always...but it does seem fun. They seriously need to work on those transitions to the cover position, though. That's just lazy. :P

amateurish? that's a big word for 'unfinished' :lol
My money's on the voiceacting being placeholder.

No, i like his posts. Doesnt matter what the game , he's going to trash it. :lol

I somewhat anticipate his posts, always makes me smile.

The game has to go gold in a couple of weeks. The graphics aren't going to magically stop sucking over night. The voices could probably be replaced but I really doubt they will.

I just watched my bro play Halo on easy, and the AI is indeed retarded,I very seriously doubt the AI will be that bad in PD once you crank it up...

The version they are playing could be a couple weeks to a month old.

Why do we even have these threads? Only a couple people offered any type of constructive criticism or legit complaints and everyone else comes in and shits on the game needlessly.

Needlessly? Come on dude. AI looks like garbage. It might be because of the easy setting, but in that vid you'd be a fool to argue that anything the AI did was impressive.

Constructive criticism? This is the internet, not a Rare focus group. I criticize, and I hope Rare fixes the problems but I'm not gonna proof read my post to make sure I didnt offend any over sensitive fanbot.

A few things I saw in the vids:

- some surroundings just looked awful, like some fanmade stuff
- joanna dark model is just hideous
- looked like same old same old level design

Add to that that kameo looks like a thrown together mess imo, and you have a Rareware that is far away from the DKC/Goldeneye glorydays.

Is your gamertag the same? I just started a pediatrics rotation (in a town that has, like, 8 kids born a year) so I'm bored as all hell. 7 EST, you say . . . ? :)

yep, still the same :P

Kameo a thrown together mess? looks like the most polished, epic launch title - not sure where you see a "mess" in that game. And all the hands on of that title have been very positive and no-where near indicate it's a "thrown together mess".

This game would look OK if it was a middle-of-the-road title released by some other company, but this is supposed to be the flagship title for the X360. The cutscenes are terribly directed, the voice acting is subpar (especially for Joanna), the graphics still don't scream next-gen (am I the only one already sick of everything being bumpy and shiny?), and the 3rd person transitions still seem a little awkward. The gameplay might be great, but for a AAA title that Microsoft expects me to drop $400+ for, I need a lot more than good gameplay, and it is certainly looking like Rare is not going to deliver. It would be nice if this game was delayed for a bit to polish it some more, but I doubt they have any time anymore to do anything but bug fixing if it's going to make launch.

EDIT: Also forgot to mention the absolutely horrible music. Who the hell put that in there? Sounds like it came from Generic FPS #352.

I love how people come into these threads and bash Perfect Dark Zero based on nothing but a clearly early cutscene and dark shaky footage taken off a movie screen. How anyone can tell anything from those vids (good or bad) is beyond me.

Meanwhile let's forget all about the numerous positive impressions from people who have actually PLAYED the game.

Besides, it's fair to expect that the actual game is quite a bit further along than what they're showing at X05. It's not like the whole company took work off to go to the show.

Why should the people care about how old that build is. This is how they chose to promote it at a big event like X05.

I pretty much agree with your post, but, there is alot more than PDZ to drop $400 for.

Depends on who you ask. I don't like racing games or sports games. I like adventure/RPG games that put a big emphasis on story and presentation, so other than Oblivion, there is not much there to warrent spending that much money on now. However, Mass Effect and Too Human will definately get me to buy a system (hopefully the retard pack is gone by then).

Clearly early cutscene? When do you suppose they are going to clear this stuff up? They are running out of time. Also, the music, voice acting, and general presentation probably won't be changed at this point in development, but one can hope.

This is poor logic. They also chose to show off the MTV build and that was anything but impressive. Look at it now. It's practically a different game.

So they are making the same mistake.... TWICE?

Well it's MS's own fault. They don't even have a video of PDZ on Xbox.com's X05 site.

I would consider Kameo an Adventure game more than a Platformer now after seeing it, plus, your forgetting the two ro three Japanese RPG's coming down the pike. But, eh, this is a FPS, why you even care what it looks like then.

That's quite enough out of you for a bit.
:lol and they are playing Halo together tonight :lol

i dont understand why people keep giving this game/company so many chances.. ive never seen this before.

So you think that cutscene is ready to go into the game with that total lack of music or sound effects, and hilariously awful lip synching? I think that's the definition of "clearly early."

The other stuff you mention is definitely up in the air. But I'm hoping...

It looks like an EA Bond title I'm afraid. And I really hate her model. I wish they'd tone her down. At this time I think the cartoon Joanna looked better. I really dislike the punk orange hair and the 80's Madonna wristbands. And her voice is annoying. She sounds like a ditts. Also I know that it's a bad capture but why do the colors look all yellow? Nothing on that video looks Next Gen to me. Halo 2 looks the same if not better. HIDEO music too. Guitar riffs? God.

I really don't like Johanna... She doesn't look like the charismatic sexy girl from the original 64 game.

Sad...

I bet you'd say she was charismatic and sexy if this was on the Revolution. Now that's sad.

Because I sort of liked the original. It was fun, and the story was not too bad, although it wouldn't win any awards. Perfect Dark seemed to me a game that was seriously limited by technology, both for gameplay and presentation. I was hoping since they were using the X360 for this game, they could make a truly mindblowing game and not some game with generic music and presentation.

The thing is, how many cutscenes look like this one? Since the game is close to completion, there must be many cutscenes that are at least as far along as this one, or hopefully further along. So why not show a better one then? Since they showed this one off, I'm inclined to believe this one must be closer to finished than most, which means it's not going to improve much and other cutscenes in the game won't be all that great either.

I have no idea. That's a question for the marketing geniuses at Microsoft. But I would be completely SHOCKED if that first leaked cutscene is in the final game as is.

And I agree with everything you said about the original game. Maybe Zero won't be the most dazzling next-gen experience (and maybe it will be, who knows?), but at the very least it seems to have a steady framerate.

I just happen to think it looks like a good time.

If she looked like she looks now, no. Sorry about that I'm not the fanboy your think I am.
I am actually sad about the result of PDZ. I guess I have to do with PGR3 for the start at least.

Good lord.

Cutscenes are usually the LAST THING IRONED OUT. This was the case with Halo. If you honestly think the final product won't be lightyears better than this b-roll stuff, I have this bridge I'd like to sell you...

Of course I don't think that all the cutscenes will be as bad as the crap they are showing at X05. However, I don't think they will be lightyears better either, simply because they won't have much time to iron out and really polish most of the cutscenes. The game has got to go into QA pretty soon, so I don't think they will improve much. But again, I hope I'm wrong and they can get some better presentation (especially the voice acting) for the game before it is finished.
