New PGR4 pics

the thing that gets me about the first pic are the banners and signs near the bottom, then near the top you see that some of the windows are open and others are different, its not all the same and being reused.

I think pic 3 is the best, even if the building next to it isn't as nice.

yeah, the 3rd one looks amazing, but they all pretty much look amazing.

its funny to think this isnt even the focus of the game.

The images are from IGN's weekly exclusive unveiling of the new PGR4 cities, so these images are meant to show off the environment. That's why there are no cars.

Plasti ... nvm :p

That is seriously amazing looking. Christ, it looks almost as detailed as the Getaway demo. That's just ridiculous for a racing game.

Christ, if only GTA looked like that 0_o

Actually I was thinking about both this game and SR3 once theyre out.
Its just crazy when you consider this and SR3 dropping on the XBox.....(insert cum shot)
I mean for me its the perfect combo-street racing here, rally racing there.
No sim. racing bullshit either, just pure adrenaline type racing and once I'm done with single player there is online for the both of them. Fuck I'm loving the thought of this, gonna be a fun time later this year.

where are all the cars :(
_______________

Meh nothing racing wise impresses me after GT5, sorry.
reply: 3D trees arent your thing? :lol
_______________

There arent any cars. Show some screens with cars actually racing in those environments. Once they put the cars in they will propably have to scale it back. GT5 still looks better though but at least I dont see as many jaggies as pgr3. Other than that not much of a jump from pgr3 except for less aliasing. But we'll see after they put the cars in. Hopefully there will be more cities than pgr3. That got boring quick.
_______________

I want to see gameplayyyy! pardon my speach
_______________

LOL. You guys notice something? As soon as GT5 showed off their cars, the PGR4 screens being released now don't show any cars? They're focusing on the parts where they stand a chance.

Nice screens, but people won't being seeing those angles anyways. It's like a girl showing off her wrists after she got compared to a supermodel.

Show us in game screens and at least cars. Otherwise it's just fluff. Great looking fluff BTW though.
_______________

Nice environments, but when are they going to release screens with the cars in 'em? I thought this was a racing game, not a vaction...

I feel like I'm watching the Travel Channel...
_______________

Ummm...actual gameplay would be nice. Thank you kind sir.
_______________

I don't think it's a huge improvement, really. The lighting and textures are a bit more realistic in PGR4, but thats about it imo.
_______________

yeah this is a racing game not a enviroment game give us some Cars
_______________

I will give credit when I see some gameplay.

Looks too real. Leaves nothing to the imagination (thus it lacks artistic merit.. a soul ).

Between the time I clicked the link for this thread and it loaded, I forgot what the topic was and went "Why am I looking at pictures of buildings? Is this something important?"

Then I saw the thread topic and I was all like:

That's exactly what happened to me. I had a few threads from the off-topic forum as well as this one open in tabs.

Bizarre and MS...what a good team they make. Graphically, especially for environments, they sure do know how to upstage Turn 10 (and every other racing developer) . These environments will make the video save/share feature even more interesting and useful.

As BlimBlim would say, 30fps with motion blur and PGR4 graphics >>>> 60fps Forza2 graphics.

Well, if Forza 2 was going for a realistic look, I think FM2 wouldn't be as disappointing. Technically the game is still a marvel.

If racing games are now locked up at 30fps w/blur and gamers at a site life GAF seem excited for it... uh, doesn't this sort of make 60fps seem... overrated?

It's not just 360 fanboys, the sony ones don't seem to mind Motorstorm at 30fps that much either.

holy fuck, thank you for the gif! that is the single best moment i have ever seen in gaming. ok, hyperbole, but still, i get wood whenever i watch that scene from the trailer. thank you. *right click save as

This at 60fps would be more impressive, but since we aren't getting it at that frame rate, I'll take it how it is dished out, but I do prefer my racing at 60fps over 30fps.

I want this game right now.

PGR4 looks awesome , and given my long hours spent in PGR3 multiplayer this game may be my #1 choice in online play when it releases at this rate.

Its sorta amazing that noone has tried to buy Bizarre out yet. You just fucking watch EA coming sniffing at their front door. They would make for a great inhouse developer for Microsoft's stable,I dunno what theyre waiting for, both sides seem to enjoy their relationship the past few years, why not just make it official?

Maybe they could throw their hand in on another racing genre, like a Hydro Thunder racer game,or even a cart racer perhaps.:D

No problem, but I didn't make it. I got it from Exarchos. :p

This is probably the best trailer we got from this year's E3.

Physics aside, technically it doesn't impress me at all. The cars could look much better, but they still have the retarded inaccuracies from Forza1.

The art direction doesn't help either. Some tracks look decent (Tsukuba, Laguna), but many tracks look ridiculous, as does the car lighting. Whoever came up with the lighting on Sebring should move on to working on something else besides graphics. That's possibly the ugliest track I've seen in any racing game. The overdone HDR effect on the cars that makes the whole vehicle turn white doesn't help either.

Well, think of it this way:

Sim racers like Forza 2 calculate physics at a rate of 360hz, so 360 times a second everything from tire pressure to collision detection to road temperature is factored in. When racing at high speeds (ie > 200km/h) lower resolution in physics calculations means missing these calculations over distances of 10-30 meters depending on your speed. So now that we've established the importance of the frequency of calculations...

Apply the same logic to the control of the game. If your wheel sends data to the game at 30Hz, it's going to be less fluid than at 60hz. 30 fps games since PGR2 do read controls at 60hz because they realize this.

The problem is that when viewing the games at 30fps, you're reactions are bound by what you see. So if a turn is coming up fast, it will jump 10m for each full frame, resulting in a delayed reaction on your part. So seeing the screen update faster helps in playing the game.

Visually, motion blur just makes things look less jarring. When turning in an FPS or racing game, it's visually jarring, especially if it was interlaced.

So from a control POV, 60fps is better as you can react better. But in arcade games like PGR where you rely on your handbrake to do a simple turn, and Motorstorm, the focus of the game relies less on racing lines (still important, but not as important as in sims) and less on careful braking and acceleration, and more on other factors.

Sorry if I described things in an unclear fashion, I'm somewhat preoccupied with something else. :P
Those screens are just too sexy... lawl

Did you read that stuff from the art director on the game? They weren't going for a realistic look and chose certain lighting conditions to make the track look more exciting than in real life. He even said that in real life, some turns were hard to see, so they exemplified things. IMO, this is a disservice to a sim game. Sims are supposed to be sims in all respects, including visuals. If a turn is hard to see in real life, it should be equally hard to see in a sim game. Anyways, I don't want to derail the thread...maybe I'll continue in the "Forza vs Real Life" thread.

^What does that hand gesture mean anyway.

back in elementary school we'd do that and say "FACE!" (as in, "in your face!"). dont have a clue why hes doing it though, but it sure as hell looks cool.

"i got five on it"?

I'll say that if GT5 doesn't have weather stuff like PGR4, I'd maybe take PGR4 over it. I'm serious. Though I really prefer 60fps for racing games...

i just hope to god this game is like PGR2. feature filled, quick menu navigation... fun; everything PGR3 was not.
